Eligibility question.
Being hypothetical, what if loosehead disease keeps spreading through the lions camp and there are no more decent props to call up? What if there is a really awesome on form prop playing in France who hasn't represented France at age grade level, but he has a British or Irish grandfather?
I'm guessing he would be eligible for one of the home nations?
If you're eligible for one of the home nations then you can be picked for the lions regardless of whether you've had a cap for that nation yet.
If Mr Frenchman got picked for the lions because of an English grandfather, is he then obligated and bound to only England or could he go home to represent France?
If this happened but then he represented France at a later date, would he be exempt from an future lions tours?

Re: Eligibility question.
Well he hadn't played for England so surely he's not tied to England.
?
I think.
[ed] If he subsequently played for France, he'd be Lions ineligible.
[ed2] However If he's affiliated to a French team in the first place, could he be called up to the Lions in the first place as he'd had no UK representative team or nation to call on?
I don't know, but I don't think so.
Good question.

Re: Eligibility question.
I think we can still find some decent looseheads over picking a frenchman...
Even Sheridan, Nick Wood etc would be preferable in my eyes...and im sure there are others in the rest of the home nations that this hypothetical question should never arise

This is a hypothetical not a practical/literal question.

Re: Eligibility question.
It is a good question, especially as the Lions have in the past picked uncapped players. Let's roll it back a bit - Will Greenwood was the last uncapped player to tour, if memory serves. If Greenwood had a French mother, for example, could he have returned from the Lions and then played for France?

Hypothetically, I rather have an Italian prop with English grandfather and Scottish mother. They make better tourists - hypothetically of course.

Re: Eligibility question.
You could probably find a Kiwi prop who had British grandparents and hadn't played for NZ yet. Seems to happen in other positions. The advantage would be knows the Aussies players and the flight over would be cheaper.

Not at all, just old school. I preferred them as Prussians or Austro-Hungarians.

More confusing question though, IF such a player turned up then who would he be stuck with, B&I means he could still be English/Scottish, so he would still be a free agent internationally (I guess to England or Scotland), even IF the Lions ruled him out of being Italian.

I doubt it, if one existed then they would have been drafted into Glagow or Edinburgh by now
