If this Lions team had been picked solely on form then you'd have to argue that Corbs, Warburton and Phillips don't belong starting as none have shown form against so far this tour (Phillips did shine against a urine poor Baabaas team admittedly but there after Murray and Youngs have looked better).
In the end the coaches will always go for players they trust and know mixed with some form players in a team. Especially in a scratch side. Woodward had won the RWC with certain players who two years later were in a different physical shape, he trusted them and mixed them in with some form options. Bad luck his scratch side were playing the best team in the world.
Today the Lions were lucky to win playing a team that are not close to the best in the world and who are in desperate need of a reliable goal kicker.

I didn't realise they handed out unbiased awards for "Best players/try scorers/points scorers/rugby brains." - where can I see this definitive list ?

Kinda bending the facts there a bit. Visser out scored north in 6 nations, Hogg out scored hp as far as try's go. only player who did score well was cuthbert and he has been the least impressive of the three. All three are great players, but to suggest all three were the obvious in form choices is totally incorrect.

Good point Sam. A injury ravaged Australia vs a brilliant all black team.....
Wonder which one would of been the harder games...
