arrest warrant issued for Wallaby Digby Ioane
"A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the Wallabies winger Digby Ioane after he failed to appear in a Melbourne court on an assault charge.
Ioane, 27, is facing a charge of unlawful assault after he allegedly attacked a man in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran on 9 March.
A warrant was issued when Ioane did not appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday."
I'm guessing that rules him out of the next test then.

WTF is wrong with the Aussie backs? Is there any reason why they have absolutly no self control? Its not that hard to have some self dicipline.

i have no idea, but i've just read that he was having his picture taken in some budgey smugglers on a roof top swimming pool when he was meant to be in court.

Sounds like he didn't do anything in the incident - his brother was in an altercation with a Melbourne man who was left with a minor leg injury, or so the Courier Mail says.

If he didn't do anything he should of wanted to get to court to clear his name and move on to concentrate on the next test (if fit). I can't see him playing with an arrest warrant on his head lol

That makes it even more stupid not to turn up as he would likely have walked anyway.
Re: arrest warrant issued for Wallaby Digby Ioane
Unbelievable. How do you miss a court appearance. This guy is an adult first of all, with a legal advisor, an agent, Reds management and Wallabies management to counsel him. How can this happen?
The Australian newspaper says "The 35-Test winger was training with his Australian teammates at Carlton's Visy Park shortly before the matter was mentioned briefly in court at 4pm"

Not really sure that anyone from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales can take the moral high ground over backs and drink related incidents.

I think an arrest is an Aussie over-reaction to a loss. It's just a game afterall.

No moral high ground from me, Care was a class a muppet when he was having his troubles. Glad he's sorted those out though.

He was pretty dire on Saturday... perhaps Robbie just made a call to make his exclusion less controversial?

There were some well publicised (in French press) incidents, discussion on UK media is unwise due to previous legal action.

Are you talking about incidents involving Irish rugby players and alcohol?

The only one I can think of was the case of Eddie Halvey an Irish player from the early 90s who crashed into a car while drink driving a few years ago.

I'd be surprised if any nations players were completely sweaky clean akin to Nasa space cadets. If you look hard enough I think you'll find something.
The difference is in the public interest and the media laws/characteristics of newspapers looking for stories between these nations.

Yeah, fa0019... but still an arrest is an arrest and kinda rises drunkin' nights of excess out of the norm and does pin extra baggage to the guys who get arrested whilst being so.
The media don't tell the cops who to arrest.......................... or do they????

Couldn't be right. It's a set-up. Irish people don't drink. I blame Murdock for that attempt to tarnish them Munster lads.

That may not necessarly be an Irish player Nathan. One particular non native Munster player has been arrested before for alcohol related incidents for example.

Re: arrest warrant issued for Wallaby Digby Ioane
Media reports are saying Ioane will present himself to the police voluntarily in Victoria.
The Australian Rugby Union learned of the issue this afternoon and confirmed in a statement today: "Since being made aware through media reports, ARU has worked expeditiously with Digby Ioane and Victorian Police to attend to this matter. "Digby will report to Victorian Police and will be issued with a revised court date. No further comment will be made at this time."
It is understood that the court appearance simply slipped Ioane's mind.

Yeah that made me chuckle...bit of an understatement. You're arrested for assault and it slips your mind? Hmmm...

You know JDV left Munster all of a sudden in 2010 when this article was created. Wasn't the type from what I've known and why would you turn to drink when you leave Cape Town with its beautiful weather, people and scenery for sunny Limerick?

"Since being made aware"
I feel sorry for Deans and the ARU by the sounds of it they didnt know about it. Some much of the stuff Deans has to deal with it defys belief and is not rugby related at all. He has a tough job, must be very frustrating. Hopefully if McKensie gets the job after Deans leaves he will adopt a no tolerance stance and clean up Australian rugby. I can think of so many great Aussie players that gave the ARU no choice but to drop them because of poor attitude or off field incidents.

Didn't his employers already know about pending court case? I recall something about the incident those few months back and I only very casually slide over Aussie rugby news from time to time.
Looks like everyone forgot...'cept them blasted coppers. Pick on them to almost ruin a Lions series.

Aparently it was a very tall Idrunk rish guy who took a leak against a bar and one of his team mates a non Irish guy tried to stop him and caused a rucous. We will never know exactly what happened but in all fairness this incident was three years ago. In the mean time there have been a whole host of incidents involving the Aussie backs.

Italy have, well had, Craig Gower. The only man to make Andy Powell look like a tee-totaler.
Although in all seriousness, I can't think of any Scottish backs that have been in trouble due to boozing (wish I could say that for Welsh players).

Dan Parks was found guilty of drink driving in 2009 and banned from the road for 18 months.
