2013 7s RWC
24 mens teams (defending champs Wales) and 16 Womens (Defending champs Australia) compete in the latest shorter version RWC.
All the details available here: http://www.rwcsevens.com/index.html
The first round of mens fixtures have been completed, with no shocks and wins for the Top12 teams over their lower ranked rivals. With 6 Pools in the Men's competition, only group winners will be guaranteed a 1/4 final spot - which will make the last round of matches tomorrow rather spicy.

So sad that it's not televised in places like the UK. The stadium is filled with at least 1000 people in Russia which would equate to 3 people in NZ or maybe even less. Kinda proves that these countries are not ready for Union.

It's on Sky TV but its on the Red Button. Saw the Scotland v Russia game and the stadium looked and sounded virtually empty.
World Cup is flawed as the teams have just had a full season to decide the 7s winner and the next month they have another tournament. From what I recall they are scrapping the World Cup either after this tournament or the next one.

9.22pm NZ time tonight for local kiwis to catch the quarter final match NZ vs Wales- 4 hours from now...
Not supremely confident as we have struggled to put lesser sides away more more than we should and Wales have had some good wins- beating Uruguay 33-5, Tonga 28-19 and Fiji 19-14 in pool play.
We accounted for Canada 31-12 on day one, Georgia 26-7 and the US 26-19
In the other quarterfinals, South Africa face Fiji, England and Australia battle and Kenya plays France.

What are New Zealand called at 7s level Taylorman? Do they have a special name? I.e. the names for the other teams like junior all blacks and baby blacks, etc.

theyre called "All Black Sevens' which is a marketing thing, as in being another horse in the rugby stable.

I meant USA, who we were 19-6 down to at one stage, and Georgia who were also tough but I can see how you arrived at that...Not.
NZ leading 14-5 start second half anyway. Fiji beat SA earlier QFinal.

Umm, I wouldn't say we've dominated 7s! Dumped out of the WC today in the quarters and in the 7s World Series I think we came 8th overall in the points table.

What planet are you living on? New Zealand dominate Sevens, as they do the 15 man game. Check the archives.

Is it acceptable for a host broadcoaster to lose images repeatedly and for hours at a time? As the stands are also empty i think Russia has ruled itself out as a valid host.

New Zealand are not, however, the current holders of the Sevens World Cup. The last winners were Wales. I suspect that's all t1000advancedprototype means with his tongue-in-cheek comment. The Saint wrote:t1000advancedprototype wrote:2015 world cup is gonna be amazing.

We're only a few minutes away from seeing whether this year's Cup goes to New Zealand, or stays in the north with England. This year's form suggests New Zealand but Wales were unfancied winners in 2009.

Re: Sevens World Cup
Look at the IRB series results. Because we've held the world cup these years doesn't mean we were better than NZ all that time, despite beating them in the build-up and during the world cup.
I've been convinced NZ will it for a while now but England can cause an upset. Will this game be on shortly?

Two More World Cups For New Zealand
Congratulations to the New Zealand All Blacks Sevens, who's men and women's teams completed an historic double world cup effort in Russia today.
The All Blacks Sevens women defeat Canada in the final, and the All Blacks Sevens mens team routed England, holding their northern rivals scoreless in the final, won by New Zealand 33-0; a record margin for a world cup final.
In horrendous weather conditions that saw play suspended twice whilst electrical storms passed through, the NZ teams were a class above the competition displaying exemplorary handling skills and unmatchable wet weather game plans.

Awful conditions. 7s, of all games, needs hard pitches and sunshine!!! Quagmire pitches are a bit anti-7s, but you can't help the weather I s'pose.

Re: Sevens World Cup
Rugby is a game for all conditions, I thought both NZ teams mastered the conditions in terms of handling skills and knowing how to play in such conditions.
England committed suicide in the final by continually and aimlessly kicking the ball away. They let 5 minutes of the second half tick by whilst they punted the ball down the field, trailing by 21-0. It made no sense.

Re: Sevens World Cup
Ben Ryan as been a great coach for England 7s and getting them to the final derserve's some credit. But if that was his game plan in the final to kick the ball down field and give chase. Is it time for a new coach, or should the players take the responsability for how they played to day?
Well played NZ clearly the better team to day and truly deserve their win.

Well done Kiwi's. Especially pleasing to see a stronger finish, Tietjens training regime specifically targeted at 7's tournament fitness- 7-8 short matches over a weekend versus the once a week 80 minute 15 a side program.

World Cup 15s and 7s in both men's and women's. Throw in Rugby League world champs and that's a great achievement for NZ in rugby. The gap is closing at age group level but for the moment we Kiwis have to be proud of what these teams have achieved. So pleased for Titch who deserves more of these to go alongside the series wins as well. An incredible coach and a loyal servant of sevens rugby.

Yeah Titch needs to coach and win Rio in 16 then with the game leaping onto the International stage he can go and coach China for the Gazillions he's worth and deserves.
