How far can Scott Quigg go? Empty How far can Scott Quigg go?

Post by buttermancan Sat 29 Jun 2013, 9:48 pm

Hello everyone. This is the first time I've written on here but I used to be a regular on the old bbc version and often write into boxing news.
I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks of Scott Quigg and how far he can go?
I like his attitude and you really can see the determination on his face like no other fighter. He really appears to be in the zone.
In my opinion the opponent he was facing tonight looked nothing to write home about and appeared much shorter which puts you at a disadvantage straight away.
So.....what level can he reach? Will he go all the way or will he be a fringe contender? We all want to see him face Frampton. Will Frampton be to big and strong or Quigg with too much skill? How do you guys see a bout between the two unfolding?

He doesn't have any obvious deficiencies and he is as fit as they come. I could see him outworking a lot of fighters even if they have a skill edge on him. Will likely fight for a world title this year or early next, should try to steer clear of Rigondeaux for now though.

Not sure Frampton would be too big as Quigg is huge at the weight. He certainly has the skills to capture a world title but I'm not sure whether he can unify the belt.

I would suggest going to www.v2journal.com and listening to our recent interview with him if you haven't already done so. A really nice guy and one who I hope does well.

I can name ten that would beat him. He'll go as far as avoiding those ten will take him.

I'm sad to say but this weekend was pretty much the first time I've seen Quigg (or more likely the first time I've paid attention).

He looked very impressive, lots of faints before throwing punches (especially early), good use of footwork to keep him close enough to punch but far enough away to avoid getting hit, very accurate and a decent dig.

Is he usually as polished as this or was this very good matchmaking?

I like Quigg a lot. As others have said he does not appear to have any glaring weaknesses. Whilst it only went a couple of rounds I was impressed with what he did in the first Monroe fight. The first round was close but in the second you could see he has already assessed Monroe and worked him out and made adjustments to his style. For a young fighter to have such intelligence in the ring speaks well of his abilities.

Hard to know how much the opponent this weekend had but after 8 months out you had to be impressed with Quigg, fell back into the groove like he had not been away, suggests he does the right things in terms of his gym work and his lifestyle. Hopefully Hearn can keep him busy over the next 12 months and no reason he can not get in the world title mix at that point.

I think Quigg can go quite far. He really impressed me against Munroe and has a really good overall skillset. Here's hoping he develops over the next 12 months and we start seeing him in some bigger fights.

He certainly is well rounded, very rangy and works the body very well indeed, only thing that might hinder him (And Frampton as well for that matter) is the wealth of talent in the division, look forward too finding out though.

Think him and Leo Santa Cruz could be a barnstormer

Both are young, both like to throw punches and both dig the body well. Quigg is the heavier handed but LSC has the workrate and chin
