Then I lose EQ and the main reason I'm looking for an 8 is that I don't have much cover for Billy, so that wouldn't strengthen me! Matthews for Arscott?

Ideally not, not unless another high class player was involved. Ewers is talented, Billy and Zebo are the same age but probable and actual Internationals respectively, Zebo is a Lion too
