Nope you have to compromise as do we.Instead PRL went off and struck a deal that suited them and are now trying to force everyone else to join them.nathan wrote:The French and English teams are clubs but we have to stick to whats best for the others..... and some of you guys have the cheek to call us greedy!asoreleftshoulder wrote:Nope the Irish teams aren't clubs. They are regions and are partly funded by the IRFU so that means the IRFU has a say in any negotiations involving those teams.nathan wrote:as mentioned above, what anyone believes isnt really the point, it IS a club competition.asoreleftshoulder wrote:What you believe isn't really the point.
agh, this has nothing to do with this thread so we should take the discussion elsewhere.

Have the Virgin XL package now. BT sports seems fairly tidy, commentators aren't too annoying and there isn't much bias as Sky.
Are the commentary team the same for the Avia ?

Same as for what? I'm planning on getting it this week for the Rugby show on Wednesday. Also I'm going away so I'll record a few of the games (watching them online afterwards is ok but you lose some of the feeling/atmosphere without the build-up, analysis, etc).

Simple question really, is the commentary team the same throughout i.e for T14,Aviva games or is it different ?

*Bugger just lost reply*
Sorry, wasn't sure what had been on. So you've seen the T14 and wondering if the commentary team would be the same for Aviva?
Probably not. they weren't the same when it was ESPN and it's the same production company. Also with 3 Aviva and T14 games I don't see how they can be the same guys. Previously they had one team that covered both English games as they were on different days. I imagine it'll expand a bit with three (unless they do Friday, Saturday and Sunday games).
Edit: so I dont know

You'd have to doubt that as the T14 is contemporaneous with the Jeff.munkian wrote:Simple question really, is the commentary team the same throughout i.e for T14,Aviva games or is it different ?
But you can count whatever blessings when you can:
There will be no Stuart Barnes.
I'm assuming that Healey and Kay will be to the fore on BTS.

Re: BT Vision
The good thing about the BT deal is that you get the AP and T14, plus you can pick up on the Sky Sports for a month at a time is if you want to watch a particular event on Sky, just add on the package for a month or two, no signing up for 1 year minimum deals.
We are just taking on BT Vision via fibre optic BT package, the whole cost of line, BT vision, BT sport and Fibre optic unlimited broadband is about £33. Plus you get access to their film repository like Netflix, but not as good.

The only game on ESPN where I thought Healey and Kay weren't even handed was the Leicester v Australia game. In all other Leicester games they've been good and balanced.
I got a leaflet through about about KC's TV package. Aparantly I can get a recording box for my TV arial and get Freeview. All for just £12 a month on top of my Phone and Broadband.

I sat down on Wednesday night to watch Rugby Tonight, BT's answer to Sky's Rugby Club. I expected informed analysis and discussion about the forthcoming season. Such content lasted about five minutes. The rest looked like a strange comedy game show mostly consisting of Austin Healey and Matt Dawson competing for the "Cheekie Chappie of the Week award".
Utterly bizarre!

Awful wasn't it? A hopeless concocted hybrid of Top Gear meets Its A Knockout meets [ed too politically correct from (ironically PC)]Football Soccer AM and with the production vales as those would be expected if the One Show was taken over by ITV1.
The so-called explanation of the 'new' scrum laws was painful.

yeah it was pretty bad, i'm hopeful it will be better once the season comes along. Wish they would give a little less time to the games.
Still on the plus side is hasn't got Stuart Barnes on it.

Having said that, nathan, The Rugby Club was almost infinitely better this week including Barnes. So have even Sky (fatally late) come to the realisation that the programme has to be improved and refreshed for its for its new, smaller market?

I think Sky are a touch panicked already Nathan. They took a third off our bill when the wife called up to cancel. Virgin offered to knock more than a third off our phone bill when I rang to tell them I was off to BT.
BT coverage is already far superior to what Sky used to offer.

After BT signed the deal, Peter Tom, the chairman of Leicester Tigers rugby club, had said the contract could see some games broadcast live on terrestrial television.

I don't get why Sarries get so many games, it's not like they are well supported unlike the other three.

Ta LT. Unsurprisingly BTS seem to have selected TV games based on box office predictions. The Tigers e.g. will have been featured every weekend in rounds 1-7, [ed]Sale once, Wuss and LI twice. maes has a small point. But what would the paying audience want?

Re: BT Vision
Tigers home match against Falcons is not televised. Other than that they feature most weeks.
BT will ensure that all teams are featured a minimum number of times - but lets face it they are a business so far more likely to show Worcester vs Bath than Worcester vs Sale

I am just saying that BT said they were going to provide free to air rugby, then didnt. They also said they were covering all games and now aren't.
Hardly whinging when I have quite clearly stipulated before that this BT deal was going to be no where near as magnanimously wonderful as some posters on here were bragging a few months back...!

On another tack*, Tonight's Rugby magazine programme had better be better than last week's garbage. The have all last week's matches to review, plus next week's to punditise and the EC bombshell to discuss.
Let's hope they'll lose the silliness of the studio games.
2hrs tonight I understand.

It may not technically be free-to-air as it is a subscription package, however it is a sunscription package that is being given away 'free' to a large number of people (I would hazard a guess that probably over 50% of people with BTSport are getting it free with their tinterweb).
Also they are the only ones showing the Jeff, so I guess they do have access to all the Jeff games, it is just that they are picking which ones are best to televise.

Too true. I have no problems with BT having the Jeff/T14, and even the HEC (or whatever), after all they were/are pay to view competitons now, but BT having them and giving BTSport our free to existing/new internet contracts means that it is win win for them, they get the rugby fans sign up for it, and also win over nuetrals who have BT Broadband. Also for my point of view it is good, as I couldn't afford to get Sky, but had BT Broadband anyhow, so I get something i want for sod all extrabroadlandboy wrote:SS/Maes

Plus my old BB router is a bit naff, plus the new package should be cheaper than TalkTalk + 02 combo.
So I took the plunge, ran off TalkTalk and 02 and signed up with BT. My new router / new service is scheduled for 24th.
I live in sleepy hollow in the Cotswolds, so do not have great confidence in the copper wire capacity to the house.
Still if the BT vid streaming to the house actually works, I shall count that as a bonus.
