Being as us Welsh dont have an international team and our players have to play for England this would be a great if Glamorgan did win it and give us Welsh fans something to cheer about for a change
Lets hope they do it hey

In a word, nonsense. The way international cricket is set up, Wales are far better off (in particular financially) playing as Glamorgan in the CC than trying to make their own way as an international team. Globally those in charge of Welsh cricket agree, which is why they maintain the status quo. Nobody forces them to do anything, they could turn up tomorrow and apply for independent membership of the ICC. Their funding would then go to about $30K per year, all their best players would be absorbed in the English county system and they would find themselves competing against the likes of Estonia and Slovakia. Assuming they move up through the rankings without obstacle (probable, but I think the likes of Denmark and Italy would give them a decent game, and in a one off who knows?), the earliest they would get any meaningful matches (against the likes of Ireland say) would be 2016.Steffan wrote:...our players have to play for England...
It is all very well making provocative posts to try and antagonise people, but generally better if you actually have a small working knowledge of the facts.

But surely its better to have a low ranked team than no team at all?

A significant number of Welsh people agree (there was a petition recently, can't remember exactly how many signatures it got so not entirely sure how large "significant" means in this context). Those in charge of Welsh cricket at the moment do not. Given the realities of international cricket at the lower echelons it is hard to disagree with the latter group.

It would be nice to have a welsh international side but it would be less than mediocre. We just don't produce enough top quality cricketers, with the exception of James Harris and the late tom maynard. Those two are the only 2 in the last 5 years Glammy have produced who could (could've) represent England.
Would love to see Glammy win though. We've been re-building for a few years now, bringing in youngsters and adding some excellent signings such as Goodwin and North to help the side reach the next level. Would be fantastic for Glammy fans if we can win the CB40. We've suffered for a few years now, missing out on the div 2 title and then faltering after a good start in the t20. A win like this could do wonders for Glamorgan in the years to come.

How about we allow Glamorgan to play as Wales in international cricket?

Would mean we have to lose:Steffan wrote:How about we allow Glamorgan to play as Wales in international cricket?
Goodwin
North
Allenby
Hogan
Wagg
And a few more. We'd be replacing them with people from the seconds and wales minor counties who would be massively out of their depth. If we had the depth then I would say absolutely, but until then, Glamorgan will represent Wales as if they were Wales and hopefully continue the success of this season for many years to come, whilst continuing to introduce academy products under the guidance of wiser and older players such as North, Goodwin, Allenby and Wallace.

I gues as long as we have Glamorgan we have a team in Wales but the problem is we only get to represent ourselves in England and not to the international world where we have no representation at all

I suppose if we were in a similar position as Ireland I would argue for test status etc but we aren't unfortunately, so the best we can hope for is possibly James Harris to break into the side and hopefully the academy produces players of similar quality.

We've only just got serious about utilising the whole of Wales for our rugby team (North Wales are finally getting WRU support on the way to becoming a region) which is meant to be our national sport. I can't see us getting an international cricket side for a long time yet unfortunately.
