Which four nations will make the semi finals of the World Cup?
Which four countries will make the semis?
There's only a few months now until the World Cup and the qualifiers are nearly over, which four teams do you think (barring them meeting earlier) will make the semi finals?

Went with Germany, Spain, Brazil and Belgium as the surprise package, although plenty of folk like the look of Belgium's first XI anyway.
Brazil to win it.
Brazil to win it.

I think Germany, Spain Brazil and Italy (couldn't find Italy so I put England who I think will reach the quarters).

South America, so I'm going to say brazil and Argentina. I think European sides will struggle if I'm honest. However, I think Germany and Spain will also reach the semis simply by being superior to pretty much everyone else. Maybe Uruguay if Suarez and cavani hit form

All joking a side, i fancy Brazil, Spain, Germany as definiteness depending on the draw of course.
For the Final slot, i recon it could well go to the African team that shows up
2002 - Senegal and 2010 Ghana. Always a joy to watch.

I think Argentina will be there or there abouts next year, they've finally found a system that compliments Messi, they do leave themselves wide open at times but with the forward line the possesa it almost feels like they're daring you to attack them so they get more space when they win the ball back.
I've said the Belgians are my dark horses to make the finals, they've looked invincible in an admittedly weakish group, I think the Semis though might just ve a step too far, too soon.
Brazil, Argentina, Italy & Germany

Germany, Brazil, Argentina, and England. Of course it all depends on how the draw pans out.

Brazil, Italy, Belgium, Argentina.
I'm hoping both Messi and Ronaldo have great tournys. Plus we have Ibrahimovic, if Sweden get through. Should be a great tournament.

Re: Which four countries will make the semis?
I've gone for Brazil, Germany, Belgium and Spain. A lot depends upon the draw. I expect there maybe one or two shock semi finalists though like:-
Japan/ Korea - Turkey and South Korea
USA - Sweden and Bulgaria

If football was played on paper then agree with those. World Cups do though tend to throw in some surprise teams in the later rounds - remember 1990 the two losing SF teams were England and Sweden, and I remember Bulgaria going far in iirc 94. I wonder if this could be a tournament too far for Spain?Mad for Chelsea wrote:I went with the same as Liam's: Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain.

Italy in 1990, DH.
Korea also in 2002 but that could have been fixed of course.

Who wouldn't agree on paper(adding the location to it as well)dummy_half wrote:If football was played on paper then agree with those. On paper in a neutral venue maybe brazil would have a problem.
by the way are you suggesting that england getting to 1990 semi was a shock? Has the memories got so bad!! It wasn't a shock at all mate. There were a good side and touted around the world as such

Re: Which four countries will make the semis?
We had a pretty easy route as well. Think 1998, when we had Argentina, and the the Dutch, if we had beaten the argies.mystiroakey wrote:Who wouldn't agree on paper(adding the location to it as well)dummy_half wrote:If football was played on paper then agree with those. Argies to win it overall. Messi will shine like a full beam headlight.

Re: Which four countries will make the semis?
Myst
I know the 1990 team was pretty decent, but prior to the tournament I think most would have expected us to be a QFs team (we were seeded 6th, controversially at the expence of Spain). It was certainly a case of a team that came together during the tournament and with a little more luck would have been in the final (Parker's deflection falling harmlessly, Waddle's shot being about 5cm further to the left and hitting the inside of the post and going in rather than out). Yet remember that we only got through the group by beating Egypt in the final game, then needed extra time (and a moment of magic from David Platt) to get past Belgium, then two penalties to get past Cameroon 3-2 after extra time. Indeed, my recollection is that the SF was the best performance of the tournament.

What was a shock was that Italy got replaced by Sweden as the other losing Semi Finalists in 1990. :-DStella wrote:We had a pretty easy route as well.
