We look to impose ourselves from the off and let the opposition know how we are going to play the game and how we want to dictate the pace of the game. Our brand of rugby is physical and fast, however we won't just run the ball at every opportunity. We will only play in the right areas of the paddock, using the nous of Pienaar and Farrell to play in the right areas of the pitch, off the back of our strong setpieces. We will look to go through simple phases to reproduce quick ball to cut the defence open. The side contains  brilliant leaders all over the pitch in Picamoles, Borthwick, Pienaar, Wilson and Medard, and they know what will be required to get we want from the game - a win. With the decent conditions, we will look to play a simple expansive game in attack and in defence will look to force Sharks to play from in their 22 and use our strong lineout and kicking game to pressure them.

  • James and Wilson are solid technicians and will secure our own feed. A big target for us here is to get under the front-row and make them go backwards with constant pressure. Look to target Sheridan technically as he relied on the hit beforehand.

  • With a strong lineout, Borthwick will lead the lineout and use himself as banker ball at the front of the line with Pape jumping in the middle. If winning own ball Borthwick will look to call short numbers lineouts to allow, Higgy/Pickles a run at the defence in midfield.

  • Our whole pack is mobile and capable of snaffling ball at the breakdown. We will look to offload in the tackle to keep moving the point of attack and tire out the Sharks pack, this will keep the likes of Sheridan, Kubriashvili, Maestri and Crane on the move.

  • The backrow will target the halfbacks,  which will lead to them rushing and making handling errors and mistakes. Big emphasis on running forwards down the ten channel when there is slow ball.

  • We will look to keep the ball alive, preventing them from setting any defensive lines. As the Lions proved, Farrell can play flat and bring in great attacking play, and Saili will help the creative play. This will also prevent Dusatoir getting over the ball.

  • We will use a blitz drift line in defence to cut down Goosen's options and push him inside towards our backrow.

  • Look for Pickles to run down Josepshs channel off scrums, and big carries down this channel in open play - this will allow the offload as there won't be forwards defending this wide out.

  • Look to use our strong bench for impact later in the game. To get an advantage in the scrum, and collisions with big impact players.

  • Farrell will kick all points, he can kick from within their half, so this indicates that Sharks should be wary of giving away penalties.

16. Korree Britton 17. Antoine Guillamon 18. Dan Murphy 19. Will James 20. Luke Narraway 21. Dan Robson 22. Jimmy Gopperth 23. JSD

Tactics:
Key Points

Balanced Backrow
We have picked a big backrow who are well balanced. Strockosch will look to be abrasive and run at 10 looking to put him off his game. Qera will look to dismantle the breakdown. JVN will look to carry the ball all day and be the link man.

8-9-10-12-13
We want quick ball for our half-backs to tactically put us into territory (off the pitch). Our 8-9-10-12-13 will look to be influential and all have played together in this game alot so know each other well. These can all be standout playmakers who will look to control the game at our tempo in the light rain we will not expect attractive rugby.

Attacking

  • We want to force errors from and will target the 12 channel by sending big runners down his channel.

  • Yachvilli and Burns to play what's in front of them and look to release Roberts (who smash the holes) or snipe as much as possible. If it isn't on then Burns will stick it in the corners and, with Savage, JVN and Hamilton we have the number jumpers to gain the ball back, we know they will be dangerous here so will look to avoid his area and mix up our lineouts.

  • Look for runners off of 10 and 12 channel to make the initial break before sending the ball out wide to Thompstone and Monahan.

  • We will look to use our big pack to carry alot of ball and, if it isn't on then run off of 9 and take a couple of 'up the jumper' phases to drag defenders in.

  • Our back three will look to come off their wings and hit the right angles.

  • Power to close out the win in Britton and Guillamon, Narraway will have a field day against tired legs, excitement to continue to target the tired players through Robson's sniping, heavy impact at the scrum to come on and Gopperth and JSD can seal the win with experience.

Set Piece

  • Strong scrum which will get the edge up on the Jones and a good bench to come on as well to continue the pressure, 8-9-10 is a move we will use alot.

  • We will use the maul to get ourselves up the pitch quickly and power over from short distance.

  • Lineout has been mentioned previously where we have many strong jumpers here who will look to control attacking and defensive ones.

Defending

  • Banana blitz defence targetting slowing down the ball led by Roberts so he has no time to kick or give quick ball to the centres (we will have a backrower on Burns' shoulder to look for quick turnover ball, we will protect the channels to stop 9 sniping.

  • Yachvilli will look to sweep and counter attack off any kick through's.

  • We will hit the breakdown quick to give Qera time to get over the ball and obliterate any protection they have in place.

  • If the turnover isn't on we won't commit and will fan out defending inside-out.

We want to put the ball through the hands a bit more this week, with Wilko and 36 looking to put the ball into the hands of the likes of Vainikolo and Jane. Tipuric is effectively our 3rd centre, as well as making a nuisance of himself at the breakdown

Line out will have AWJ and Swinson as our main jumpers, with Robshaw being used as the 3rd option

Robshaw and Tipuric give us a true 7 and a 6.5, we want to exploit this round the park by winning turnovers in opposing territory. This will help us deal with Pocock on the floor.  AWJ and Swinson are both good around the field, they and Webber will be charged with hitting rucks and punching holes in the defensive line.

Mas is starting to try and sap some of Jenkins energy through the scrum to negate his impact around the field.

Of course, with Wilko we will take advantage of any penalties inside the opposition half and kick for goal. In attack, Twelvetrees will act as first receiver at times, giving us a double pivot. Vainikolo is free to come off his wing and run hard, likewise we are expecting Tatupu to make some dents in the defence. Afoa, Webber, Swinson and Faletau are our heavy carriers, with Tipuric offering a speedier option to go along with the backline. Nowell is free to attack at will and join the line.

Saracens vs Bath Rugby

16. Matt Mullan 17. Schalk Brits 18. Ben Tameifuna  19. Kelly Brown  20. George Skivington 21.  Morgan Parra 22. Allen Anthony 23. Luke Arscott

Tactics: Key Principles- Support running, breakdown, big runners down the 10-12 channel and workrate in attack and defence

Breakdown - one of Billy or Gorgodze clearing out with Richie securing/stealing ball, allowing the other to focus on carrying with the ball.

-Don't overcommit to secured ball. McCaw aiming to be first to every ruck, but all support runners to get over ball quickly to avoid isolation

Scrum- target their LH/Hooker combo. Work hard all match as we have great subs in front row. If we have go forward, run off the base with Billy

Lineout
- Ryan to call, Botha jumping at the front. Mix up the maul to tire the opposition and off the top with set moves for Care.

Challenge at the middle but not front to give them easily manageable front ball and focus on defence, except in their 22 where we will challenge everything

Defence- Blitz led by Allen, Care sweeping, McCaw harrying Hook. If attackers break the line, go for the 2 man tackle in cover to force the turnover

Attack- spin fast ball out-wide, with players cutting inside for the scissors and aiming to produce gaps for the pace of Goneva, Varndell and Zebo. Casson acting as a 2nd playmaker with Halfpenny, Gorgodze and both Vunipolas coming for the pop inside him and Hodgson.Really target Hook and Eastmond with our big carriers. Support runners for every run.

Slow ball- drive it in packs of 3 forwards, maul it or kick at the corners. Parra to decide when to play and when to grind. All kicks to be chased and if they are in space, make them high  to do so.

In their 22- mix up tight and loose play and look to crossfield kick. Take all kickable points and chase all kicks

Subs- lots of impact on the bench, bring on as necessary and play 100% knowing this is possible. If we need incision in the backs, Allen, if we need a tighter game, Parra to come on. If breakdown is suffering, Brown

TACTICS
- In difficult, windy conditions, we have picked a heavy ball carrying pack. We want to play all the rugby in their half and challenge at the lineout so will use the boots of Hook and Goode (Steyn and Daly off the bench) to pin Tigers back.

- Look to kick in behind the wingers, especially Varndell and then challenge the lineout, pressurising Buchanan and forcing the throw towards the back, where there isn't a good jumper.

- With Muller calling the lineout, we'll look to challenge every throw and Batty has been picked for his consistent throwing ability to ensure we win our throws. Buchanan can be got at and there aren't many

- Test out their untried and untested centres combo, with Casson in mixed form and Goneva out of position. Use Goode coming into the line and the pace and power of Ranger to smash holes

Look to keep their defence narrow with SOB, Fearns, Attwood, Beattie, Healy smashing it up on the fringes. Classens to look to snipe

- Eastmond and Hook to mix up first receiver with slow ball to change point of attack. Eastmond and Goode available to offer at first/second receiver with quick ball

- Ranger to crash it up off slow ball to set up the ruck. A very mobile pack will get there first to smash and clear out, leaving quick ball for 9

- Salvi picked as out and out 7, looking to be first to every ruck and bridge the tackled player, slowing ball and/or winning penalties. We will pick our rucks and not over commit to secured ball, rather looking to target isolated runners

- In defence, look to pressurise fly half, as Hodgson is suffering from a lack of game time.

- Fearns to come on for SOB when he appears slightly tired, his freshness will help to slow oppo ball at the ruck and look to force turnovers against tired legs

FALCONS SIDE

1.Grant Shiels
2.Scott Lawson
3.Hoani Tui
4.Scott Macleod
5.Paul O'Connell (C)
6.David Denton
7.Richard Mayhew
8.Thomas Waldrom
9.Mike Blair
10.Phil Godman
11.Bryan Habana
12.Maxime Mermoz
13.Mathieu Batseraud
14.Ugo Monye
15.Stuart Hogg (K)

replacements: 16.Swarzeski 17.Stevens 18.McKenzie 19.Tomes 20.Welch 21.Young 22.Robinson 23.Tait

Mtawaria returns after international duty to boost the scrum. O'Connell captains the side in Weepu's absence and is partnered by Macloed making his first start of the season. Denton returns to no6 with Heaslip coming at no8 which certainly boosts the side and the forward pack looking a lot stronger this week. Blair comes in for Weepu who has been dropped. Godman at 10 will look for drop goals on a regular basis, to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Habana returns at wing to add more pace to the backline. A deadly french duo in Mermoz and Basteraud are the centre pairing and should frighten the oppo. Banahan has pace and power and can through anyone on his day, with Hogg at full back the kicker this week.

Swarzeski will come on for Lawson, Robinson for Godman, Barritt for Basteraud

Mate you've only got one EQ in your starting lineup and I think only four overall. Needs to be four starting and right overall.

If you'd like a hand mate pm me and I can help you out with some EQ or what I think your best side is.

Aviva Premiership Round Three (Rugby Championship) Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Three (Rugby Championship)

Worcester Warriors 23 - 27 Harlequins

A little hard to distinguish with little tactics, but I will try to imagine both sides under past patterns. Quins take the scrum with experience here to out do the young Wuss props. The line-out is a little more of an even affair with both containing good technicians. Both back rows are good, but might just edge it to Quins because as a unit they have a little bit of everything. Similar with Quins but just feel a little more carrying from Wuss edges them.

Wuss off the back of their back row can gain some good ball for their halfbacks, which can run the show as kahn can attack the fringes and Jackson can ping them into the right areas. Quins have more functionaltiy about their pair, and Priestland really needs to hit some form soon. Quins have a much better set of centres and can provide go forward here and to their attacking wings. Wuss have some good players in their back three, but all are a bit frail in defence.
With Quins having a cleaner supply up front and a better outlet to implement the quick ball means they can rack up some points. They have a strong bench which compliments the hard work and edges the battle away from home. Wuss claim a LBP thanks to the boot of Goode.

Gloucester 24 - 22 Northampton Saints

Glos have the front five to dismantle the Saints five in the loose and in the scrum. Lawes and Bekker are players which you wouldn't want paired in a fire fight up front as both focus on their own aspects of play. Both back rows are hard working and can use any ball that comes there way well. Strokosch and Qera will be a nuisance at the breakdown. Saints are big step up in back, as their halfbacks can control the game, but there is a lack of ball from up front. Glos have have a strong spine through their side and can get some real momentum going through their centres. Saints have some real firepower out wide and will score some tries, against their opposite wingers, but in the end the job is done by Glos at home through their front five and their strong spine of their team.

Leicester Tigers 29 - 22 Newcastle Falcons

Falcons can take the game to Tigers, but Falcons lack the quality of their hosts. The line-out can go either way, and there is a good amount of carrying in the Falcons pack. But the sheer quality of the Tigers game-plan and efficiency in clearing ball out makes them dangerous out wide. Tigers have a decent back line and take the halfbacks. But Falcons are no slouches and when provided with quick ball can score tries. In the end though the quality of Tigers and their super bench steers them clear at home.

London Irish 20 - 23 Exeter Chiefs

Decent contest in the scrum. Mas anchors well and Webber will help out Sturgess. Irish match their counterparts, its about even. But I have Webber a bit stronger in the set pieces. Line-out Chiefs can take some good clean ball but lose a couple to Kennedy. Both back rows are a real handful. Hari and Pocock lack form, but give the Chiefs unit something to think about around the park. POM is a real handful when carrying. Chiefs are more adept on the ground and I would edge them the battle with the Irish lads lacking some form.

Wilko and 36 can ping the corners, but might lose the kicking battle against both James and Laidlaw. Attacking wise, Chiefs are right to open up the game as they have some real pace out wide, and suck in numbers with their pack dominance at the breakdown. Irish have some good attackers in the counter attack. Both benches are great and can change the game and momentum, but there is more an effect from the Chiefs set. Chiefs can take this one.

Saracens 35 - 34 Bath Rugby

Cracking battle up front. Franks jetting back might be a little tired, but they have some real power. Sarries have a bit more technical power and can perhaps get a slight edge, especially with the boys exploiting Batty. Line-out is a great contest and both are about even as both are adept here. Around the park both back fives are great, both attacking each others ball and I think again it is an even contest as both can negate one another.

Care can attack the fringes, as can Claasens, but I feel Care can have a much bigger impact on the game. Hook and Hodgson can both attack the gain-line and bring their backs out. Bath are right to attack the Sarries centres, but Sarries have a great back three which will score tries. Sarries have the stronger bench and a better gameplan when there is slow ball. So at home I think Halfpenny's boot can edge a real close encounter.

Aviva Premiership Round Three (Rugby Championship) Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Three (Rugby Championship)

Post by ChequeredJersey Wed 25 Sep 2013, 3:59 pm

Sale 24- 29 Wasps

Sale have a much more powerful front row but I'd say Wasps were in better former and cannier and will hold their own and maybe edge the scrum exchanges under the new rules (though that's a close call). I think Sale's 2nd and back row have more power too and they can make this pay in the tight exchanges. However, Wasps will have a very safe lineout and pressurise Sale's. Wasps' carriers are flashier than Sale's and will excel in looser play but Sale can make hard yards easily. Dusautoir will help put Wasps on the back foot with his tackling but I expect him to lose to Brussouw in the breakdown and there aren't many other groundhogs on the pitch so this is an area Wasps can edge. Altogether Wasps edge the pack except in tight, physical exchanges which they look to avoid. They also have no nonsense halfbacks but Sale offer more threat here, and I really like their combo. Sale's backline is a bit flashier, but Wasps look very efficient in this area and I expect 10-15 to function very effectively especially with ball won from the lineout and rucks. Together with tactics, Wasps win this away.

Worcester 30 - 33 Quins

Think Quins edge the scrum with a tad more experience, neither very specialist here. Both have mobile tight fives and good lineouts that should match up pretty well and secure their own ball. Worcester have a little more carrying power in the back row, where Quins are still pretty good, but Quins have a bit more nous and that's very close too. However, I think that whilst both are overrated in this area, Armitage is a better ball-winner than Kvesic at this point in the careers and Quins will edge the breakdown. Worcester have the best HB in Fotuali'i but I question Jackson's ability under pressure. The same can be said for Priestland but he's a bit more special and aided bu steady Wrigglesworth and I think this combo works well. For Wuss, 12-15 look tasty in attack, especially with Fotuali'i's spark inside them, but vulnerable in defence (as is Homer). Quins are similarly quite attack heavy but North and Fofana are the best outbacks on the pitch and will really threaten the line. Worcester are well equipped to steady things with their bench but I think they will only gain parity up front and Quins' two superstars get enough ball to win the game.

Gloucester 27 - 26 Saints

Good front rows but as Saints' is aging a tad and despite Hartley's good form this season I'm going to give the call to the evergreen Jones and Gloucester.I think Saints will be comfortable on their lineout ball and may test Gloucester, but if Gloucester can get a good set up into a maul they will make yards. Bit more pack power to Gloucester and I haven't seen Ferris play top level rugby in so long he loses out to Stroks(!) here. Again, no outstanding groundhogs but team efforts which will probably even out, or just be in Gloucester's favour as I think their back row is a tad more balanced (mostly due to Ferris' hard to assess form). Good backs from both sides, prefer Glaws' HBs (despite Sexton at 10 for Saints) but Saints have more class in the outbacks and will do damage with the ball tehy get, especially outwide. A bit more to Saints' bench too, impact-wise, but Gloucester are at home and have good tactics and do enough early on with their pack and Yachvilli pulling the strings.

Tigers  28 -  24 Falcons

Tigers get a clear advantage at scrum time, and class to replace their front row with. An are they can really crush Falcons. They should also pressurise them at the lineout with 2 really good jumpers (Gray an exceptional defensive one). However, This leaves them a little lightweight on the park and Falcons can get an edge in contact. Warburton has enough to win at the breakdown vs Welch, and Parisse is class as ever but if Denton and Heaslip can fire they will keep Lydiate busy in defence as both can be destructive carriers. I like both backrows, but confess I am unsure if Denton has regained his form or not at this point. No second row cover for Falcons but I quite like the gamble of 2 backrowers on the bench and think they will add a lot in the second hlaf but Wallace and Launchbury also add a tonne of workrate. Leicester pack still looks light on raw power. Tigers have an established HB combo, though Biggar and Weepu should do well. Outside them, Tigers have more speed but Falcons more power and the solidity of the Falcons backline should absorb a lot of firepower from Tigers, I also like both sets of backs subs. Closer than I expected, but at home tigers win, due largely to the set piece

Irish 26 - 27 Chiefs

Evens in the front row, and therefore the scrums. Kennedy standout in the lineout and will win his own ball easily but Chiefs have lots of options so both will win their own ball without disrupting much oppo ball here too. The Breakdown is very interesting. Pocock is excellent here, but together Tips and Robshaw can get an edge . POM and Hari (and Pocock) offer a lot in the carrying department though and this makes up for the edge. Robshaw, Faletau and Tips, if they can get the space away from the breakdown, can really help out their backline though and in terms of ball playing and attack I can see Exeter beating Irish with their outbacks. Irish have a great HB combo for kicking though and are better at playing territory where Wilko will feel a bit pressurised (though he can deal with that). Irish have more strike power in the backs but Exeter look more coherent and I think edge the away by a sliver, with a strong bench helping.

Wasps 19 - 16 Sale

Close one here, other than the front row I prefer Wasps combinations on the rest of the field. Farrell will keep the scoreboard ticking over and there is enough strike power to take advantage of the strong back 5 in the pack

Quins 27 - 25 Worcester

Quins backs can be really dangerous if Priestland is on form, and the pack is strong enough to win plenty of ball. Scrum favours Quins, but line out is a plus for Worcester. Think Quins can squeeze one out thanks to the brilliance of their 3/4s

Saints 21-23 Gloucester

Comes down to the packs for me, backs are both strong, as are the front rows. As a combination I think Hamilton and Savage offer a great deal, especially in the tight. Likewise, Ferris hasn't played for a long time so tough to rate him. Going for a late score to sneak one here

Tigers 34 - 16 Falcons

Tigers have the edge in every area, tough to see Newcastle competing very well. We've already seen how Manu vs Bast goes, and the back row of Leicester is far stronger for me. Added to the threat out wide from Yarde and co, and I see a comprehensive win

Saracens 30 - 31 Bath

Game of the week here. 2 massive packs, Gorgodze and Billy would be quite a sight on the same team, but Bath's back row packs a punch with O Brien leading the way. I give Bath the edge in the scrum with parity line out wise. Breakdown is going to be a good battle with McCaw and Salvi, but I think O Brien is going to be useful in aiding Salvi vs McCaw, who may not get the same breakdown help from Billy and Gorgodze. Backs about equal, tough to pick a winner but Bath for me
