Maybe some out of the box thinking...
Lets forget HC negotiations for a sec, and start structure from scratch.
The UK is split into 2 leagues North /South:
North -
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Newcastle
Glos
Leicester
Ulster
Leinster
Ospreys
Scarlets
Northampton
South -
Exeter
Wasps
Blues
Dragons
Connacht
Munster
Herlequins
Saracens
Bath
L. Irish
Both leagues play simultaneously, you play every team in your league once, followed by a knockout home and away tourny where everyone in the top half of the tables oppose, and everyone in the bottom half oppose.
The 2 Italian clubs join the T14, and at seasons end the T14 and BI league invite 2 teams each for a round robin champion of champions style thing.
How much fun would that be? Even if I am in dreamland.

3.33 of those teams are not in the "UK" for starters.

How about this?
Every country plays their own domestic tournament.
At the end of the season, each country sends their top team from all over the world to a Club World Cup.
It takes a month to complete, 24 teams from 24 countries, 4 pools of six teams, quarters and finals.

Jennifer
Typo, I have clearly used BI further on grow up.
Bill
Scotland, Wales, Iralnd and Italy can't sustain a league, so essentially what your saying is France, England and SA only play rugby union.

NZ can support a fully profesional domestic competition.
Italy can almost do that - but the quality is poor.
Rugby is very much a minority sport in Global terms, so we have to try and help each other out. The rugbywbankers with the purse-strings are unwilling to loosen them, while those receiving "benefits" want others to keep paying for them. So we end up in a horrible, brown, sticky mess.

Re: Maybe some out of the box thinking...
Hate articles like this, bit like "If i win the lottery" kind of talk.
Lets keep it real folks, the English and French have made there bed leave them to it, the HC was only good for money it hardly helps a team develop better players, the Welsh regions are pretty rubbish in Europe but that does not have a knock on effect to the International team!
So lets stick to the Pro12 make it elite then why not get top players more integrated to the feeder clubs so the standard is higher all round.

Re: Maybe some out of the box thinking...
the problem with that is the Italians and Scots cannot sustain a professional league and the Irish and Welsh would struggle. This is why we have the Rabo.Biltong wrote:How about this?

Super rugby is the template the Pro 12 should follow, it should be condensed so they can peak for the Six nations then in a Currie cup fashion play for the clubs below.

Re: Maybe some out of the box thinking...
Earlier today I was told that England and France don't bring in the most revenue?

Biltong - the european cup brings in the revenue.
The revenue from the european cup is more important to the smaller unions.
Scotland simply does not have the resources in finances or players to set up its own pro league as you suggest they should

To have a share of control based on the number of teams in the competitions? And yes the CC does exist and is a competition governed by the ERC.

He wasn't really trolling, just reacting to your inability to recognise Ireland as a separate country from the UKbutterfingers wrote:Worse than trolling... once again grow upJenifer McLadyboy wrote:Dat's no problem sorrh. shure us poor tik paddies'll do anyting y'tell us. Except it was explained as a typo, I clearly used BI later on, the pathetic use of accents is equivilant as baby talk and was not called for. Anyone in this day and age still willing to argue about the use of UK by accident instead of BI really needs more going on in their life.Tramptastic wrote:He wasn't really trolling, just reacting to your inability to recognise Ireland as a separate country from the UKbutterfingers wrote:Worse than trolling... once again grow upJenifer McLadyboy wrote:Dat's no problem sorrh. shure us poor tik paddies'll do anyting y'tell us. BI and UK aren't really in place for a typo. More like a Freudian slip. Typical English colonialist

your dismissive attitude compounded your "typo/freudian slip".butterfingers wrote:Except it was explained as a typo, I clearly used BI later on, the pathetic use of accents is equivilant as baby talk and was not called for. A simple "my mistake sorry" would have been fine. Even making a joke of it (like I tried to) would have been fine.
You were only short of "why don't you fock back off to your bog paddy, the big people are talking"

Re: Maybe some out of the box thinking...
It is possible to edit posts and articles. If it was a "typo" Im guessing the OP would have changed it already.
The proposal in the above article would be a nice novelty but wouldnt work for Irish teams because the two annual Leinster v Munster games are a windfall for the IRFU and are up there with the biggest fixtures of the Irish rugby calendar. Splitting them up wouldnt be good for Irish rugby I dont think.
