Teenage kicks!
Remember back to your teen years. Going out with your mates, meeting girls, drinking, smoking and listening to the music of the day?
I was a teen from 1990 to 2000 when I turned 20. I was lucky back then. There was some great R&B and hip hop music that was being produced at the time. Some say it was the peak of such music and I tend to agree. I started going to nightclubs when I was 14 (don't ask me how I got in I just did) and music was a major part of my life, not anymore tho. This is a tribute to the music and artists that was the soundtrack to my crazy teen life back then. Far too much to mention so will give you guys a little taste of what I used to bubble to lol
Dr Dre - the chronic
Biggie smalls
Jodeci
H-town
Brownstone
Mary J Blige
Snoop
Wu Tang Clan
Pharacyde
Keith Sweat
Faith Evans
Soul for real
Jeru the damager
Tu Pac
SWV
and many more. Thanks for the memories. Some mention should go to Blur and Oasis tho. Sad for teens these days who have to put up with Lil Wayne hahaha.
I know many of you would not have heard any of the artists or groups I have mentioned but I am interested in what your teenage soundtrack was?

1985 - 1990
My clubbing years were really 1990 - 2002, with late 90's - 2002 becoming 80's clubs, ironically. But in my more sedate teens it was:
Bryan Adams
Bon Jovi
Skid Row
George Michael (true)
INXS

lets not knock the Groover from Vancouver. He is an easy target. Next you'll be hating on Michael Bolton or Scooter.

I was a teen from 1994-2000 and my main interests were Brit pop bands.
Pulp
Oasis
James
Ocean Colour Scene
Cast
Supergrass
Throw in some proper 90's grooves in there as well plus some Dr Dre, 2pac and Warren G and you have my teenage soundtrack

Re: Teenage kicks!
I was a teenager from 1992 to 1998 and I liked quite a few Britpop bands too, but I always thought Cast and Ocean Colour Scene were rubbish...
I liked, amonst others:
Blur
Beck
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
Supergrass
The Delgados
Silver Sun
Sonic Youth
Placebo (the shame!)
Urusei Yatsura
The Bluetones
Teenage Fanclub
Manic Street Preachers (I was obsessed with The Holy Bible)
and funnily enough, I was a teenager when I first bought an Undertones compilation album.
I liked some R & B as well - Ghostface Killah was good, plus everyone at school had Black Sunday by Cypress Hill. That was a real crossover album in my neck of the woods.

Re: Teenage kicks!
Was 16 in 1989 so my transition into adulthood and actually having some money for myself coincided exactly with the Manchester scene, as such was a huge Stone Roses, Mondays and Charlatans fans. To be honest was massively into most of the bands around then, even the more obscure ones like the High, Northside and World of Twist, although listening back to some of the more obscure ones now I can see they were a bit bobbins (not the High they were brilliant and still sound it.)
I know everyone tends to eulogise about the time they grew up and see it as a golden age but I genuinely think I got lucky growing up around that time as there was a genuine scene and excitement around. Zoned out of music a bit after that as grunge was lost on me completely. Far too whiny and miserable for such a happy go lucky chap as myself. Although to be fair many of the bands LP has listed and others like Teenge Fanclub and the Super Furries were excellent.

Bless you LP, do feel I am frequently in a minority of one in loving them, nice to know there is at least one other person out there.

I am normally reborn, honest, it is spending my days trying to keep the likes of Truss and Az in line. Back on topic, I was a teenager from 1987-1994 and was probably in my most eclectic period as far as music goes. Stuff I was listening to included:

Duran Duran
Run DMC
Michael Jackson (the shame!)
The Specials
UB40
REM
Faith No More
The Cult
U2
Simple Minds
Bon Jovi
Bryan Adams
Def Leppard
Aerosmith
Manic Street Preachers
Pearl Jam
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Metallica
Alanis Morissette (more shame!)
Sheryl Crow

Re: Teenage kicks!
1994-1998ish for me. Again I think a pretty lucky period in terms of music and fashion. Standard was jeans, a tidy shirt and a weatherproof jacket (I had a few but my favourite was the black Spiewak hoodie / firemans jacket Tim Burgess wore at Knebworth).
I look around at the teenagers today and just think nobheads.
