Barker-Sturm Announced: Stuttgart, Dec 7th
Shame Darren has to travel but that's where the money is apparently. Neutral officials and a two fight deal by all accounts with the return in London in March assuming its viable.
Should be a good fight. 12 rounds written all over it.

Yeh id agree with that King.
12 Rounder all the way, nobody is getting stopped here I wouldn't have thought.
My only concern when it was announced a little earlier is that its in Stuttgart?
Suppose its where the money Is like you say, but you would never see Ward coming to the UK for it and he would get more money as well.
Odd.

Re: Barker-Sturm Announced: Stuttgart, Dec 7th
According to Eddie Barker has been offered a million to go to Germany, Eddie said he left it up to him but like he says a million is life changing money so you have to give him the opportunity. If he has secured neutral judges and a guaranteed rematch clause guess he has done as good a job as can be expected to insulate Barker against nonsense. Suspect he will also be conscious that he cannot risk another PPV over here and so will not be able to match such a purse.

How much longer can the domestics middleweights go on ignoring each other by the way? I think they have shot themselves in the foot by not creating domestic fan interested rivalries. It seems like we get Sturm or Martinez against one them every other month.

Shame for barker it's another away fight. Hopefully being champ can raise him another level. I have a feeling the geale performance could be his pinnacle. Although strum should be on the slide now.

What a generously English assessment of you, Jeff. Shall we also send over Captain Mainwaring to make sure those pesky Germans don't annex all our hotel rooms whilst the fight is on.Rowley wrote:If he has secured neutral judges and a guaranteed rematch clause guess he has done as good a job as can be expected to insulate Barker against nonsense.
What clauses do we think Felix will want added to the return in London? Although maybe he won't bother as overseas fighters never get shafted over here.

I thought all judges are supposed to be neutral.......Surely ???
If you aren't neutral does that mean you can trash a guy as much as you like and know you're going to lose the round........and it's okay......
The alphabet boys should be employing honest types......and suspending scum..

Geale got the decision in Germany against Sturm. Murray got a fair result too. Ok, Macklin got shafted hard, but I think recent decisions have been (surprisingly) reasonable. Hopefully Barker will be given the same respect.
If not he's always got the equitable, faultless, flawless, honest, honourable, impartial, nonpartisan, objective, peerless, professional, respected, sincere, straight, trustworthy, unbiased judging of a UK rematch to look forward to.

Re: Barker-Sturm Announced: Stuttgart, Dec 7th
Not sure if this is common knowledge but CJ Ross was asked at the end of the fight before scores were announced who she thought had won, she thought Mayweather won the fight.
She had scored the fight 6 rounds each but as the cards are handed to the referee at the end of each round & passed on to someone to tally up she had mentally lost track of what she had been scoring. Don't know what she was watching to score 6 to Alvarez anyway but point is she thought Mayweather had won the fight but she had scored even so obviously something's wrong with the system. And it isn't just that women are scoring fights

Rounds are scored in isolation so in theory it's perfectly reasonable that you score it a draw but believe one of them had the better of the fight.DynamiteChris wrote:Not sure if this is common knowledge but CJ Ross was asked at the end of the fight before scores were announced who she thought had won, she thought Mayweather won the fight.

Unfortunately for Barker this whole german episode comes from him being.........
1. Hard to market............Hence sturm's backers can win the purse bids........
2. The weakest champion at the weight.......Must have been a mad rush by the top 10 contenders to get him to sign........

No her licence is up at the end of the year, its not going to be renewed so she fell on her own sword rather than face the indignity of being fired.Scottrf wrote:She hasn't quit, she's just lying low until it blows over.catchweight wrote:She has quit because they wont renew her licence in Neveda.Scottrf wrote:Just like Pierre Benoist didn't ref again after Williams 119-110 Martinez? Poor old CJ Ross she's only getting it because Mayweather is the only star of Boxing so she's been highlighted.......
No fuss was made of the muppets who robbed Whittaker against Ramirez ( I gave every round to Pernell as did many others) or the guy who had Chavez up against Meldrick.......
Shocking decisions are standard..........She is one of many..........Perhaps being a woman she is getting more than her fair share..
Wish I could say the same about the red dragon........

Id disagree Scott, her recent scoring has been absolute toss and potentially cost punters a hell of a lot of money on stupid and ridiculous scoring of one sided fights.

Lets not forget that she wasn't the only judge to score it to Bradley. The other was punished by being sent into the obscurity of...Mayweather vs Guerrero.

Two howlers in huge fights and her Nevada boxing licence about to expire I beg to differ. She might resurface elsewhere or appear in some rinky dink fights but she is finished for judging top fights in Vegas. The only relevance Floyd has to this (despite your utter infatuation) is that he is so head and shoulders above all his opponents that the scoring should be even easier than normal.
Other than that, the fact CJ Ross is a judging disgrace that should never work again is mutually exclusive from the most recent highlight of her ineptitude being a Floyd fight.

Yes. Her licence is up and they have the perfect opportunity to get rid of her without any fuss. The fact she has opted to "take a break from boxing" is to save her being officially cut loose when her licence expires. She is a poor judge with several high profile errors which have embarrassed the Commission and there really isnt any value in retaining her as a top level judge when they could let her disappear off somewhere else to become a problem.Scottrf wrote:Any justification for this opinion at all other than rhetoric?catchweight wrote:Two howlers in huge fights and her Nevada boxing licence about to expire I beg to differ. Numerous judges have their licenses nearing expiry after making bad decisions. That's no evidence of any sort.
I've experienced numerous judges that will 'never judge again' after bad decisions. None that have been stopped from ever judging again. Can you name any?

In two consecutive fights where you could barely give the challenger more than 2 rounds she managed to have Pac losing in one and Floyd drawing in the other.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:So If she'd have scored the barker-Geale fight 117-111 for Geale she'sd be getting highlighted like this ??TopHat24/7 wrote:The only relevance Floyd has to this (despite your utter infatuation) is that he is so head and shoulders above all his opponents that the scoring should be even easier than normal.
