Povetkin's camp file a protest
This is taken from fightnews.com It seems that Povetkin's camp don't like Luis Pabon much...
"The camp of Alexander Povetkin plans to lodge a protest, not to overturn the result of Povetkin’s loss to Wladimir Klitschko last Saturday in Moscow, but instead to penalize referee Luis Pabon for his handling of the fight. Povetkin’s agent Dmitry Ivanov told RIA Novosti’s sports affiliate R-Sport that the protest to world sanctioning bodies is to ensure “this referee never again oversees a high-level fight.” Ivanov stated that Pabon, likely the WBA’s most often used world title referee, didn’t implement any measures against Klitschko to make it a clean, fair and entertaining fight."
I suppose that at least they're not trying to get the fight result overturned.

I'd prefer to see Povetkin withdraw his appeal and go and take up wrestling or something.......So we don't have to see his talent-less podgy butt again.......

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
Yes maybe Truss, but at least he a) was trying to win in the fight; and b) if he hadn't have been leant on, pushed over and thrown about, it might have made it more entertaining.
I don't believe it would have changed the result but just because he's a bit fleshy doesn't make him a terrible fighter. You yourself have alluded to Terrible Tim Witherspoon never being body beautiful yet he achieved a fair bit.

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
I didn't say that, and I don't think he deserves one. However, he's better than a lot of the excuses for heavies out there and has a lot of heart. It's just a shame that Wlad was allowed to get away with the excessive pushing, holding etc when he could've dictated terms without it.
It's no real surprise that Team Povetkin are feeling annoyed - their man might have actually been allowed to hit Wlad at some point so it might have only been 10 points difference in the scorecards instead of 15...

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
Yes but the whole purpose of protesting is to get another shot........forgett the referee stuff.
No one is going to strip Wladdy..........and a ref calls it like he sees it........
My advice...train harder.......get a six pack and learn how to box.........Instead of protesting.

The WBA should grow some balls and strip Wlad of the title. Such a disgraceful display of cheating should be punished. Pabon should be suspended.

You employ referees to intervene..............How can you strip someone when the referee didn't see anything wrong.........catchweight wrote:The WBA should grow some balls and strip Wlad of the title. Such a disgraceful display of cheating should be punished. Pabon should be suspended.

Or maybe he didn't "want to" see anything wrong?

Sorry Catchy I don't want fighters losing titles because a group of Bob Mee types decide he doesn't deserve it after the fight......

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
Truss it's about whether Pabon should ref at a high level again because he a) is so bad at it he can't see the obvious holding etc b) he saw it & chose to "let it go" or worse c) he saw it, knew about it and let it go because someone advised him to do so with a nice little bonus.
Whilst I am not in any way saying c) is a likely outcome, I have no doubts that there are others who might think the same.
Stripping titles is not an option here.

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
I agree he had a poor fight.........But it's the same in 70% of fights and povetkin was out of his depth anyway.....
I also don't want the monday morning quarterback deciding who has the belts......
Your points are well put and very valid........I just have my own thoughts..

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
Shouldn't be the case in the highest prize in sport though. Pabon ref'd the Wlad fight against Mormeck & there were no such issues.
Then again Mormeck was so poor he deserved to get pancaked...

Re: Povetkin's camp file a protest
Wlad was perfectly entitled to grab Povetkin in headlocks etc as Povetikin posed his "biggest ever challenge" and did whatever he felt necessary to get the job done as he was clearly intimidated by Povetkin's potential to wreak havoc in there.
Much like Haye will be intimidated by Fury.........

As far as I'm concerned the more accountability that refs are made to have for poor performances, the better.

they should have been in there after round 2, bringing some pressure on the ref to change things. same as beltrans corner should have been in the Burns fight.
