Super Fights that didnt....
What superfights should have took place in the history of boxing, that didn't for reasons beyond reasonable means?
For example the whole Floyd vs Pacman fiasco....scared of needles, 50/50 splits, poor promoters etc etc prevented a superfight for us fans.
What other big fights would you have loved to have seen that never occurred, or did occur but only wayyyy past its sell by date?

Dempsey Wills is one that springs immediately to mind. Wills was number one contender pretty much throughout Dempsey’s reign and a genuine threat to the title. Even allowing for the times Rickard openly admitted the fight would have been a million dollar gate, but still refused to promote the bout. Was signed to happen on at least one occasion but nobody other than Rickard could really find the money to make it happen.

Tyson-Holyfield (circa '91) -- that would have been a great fight.

Big George vs Tyson. Tyson must be favourite to win but still - its Foreman.
Re: Super Fights that didnt....
Jones vs Calzaghe before Jones was shot. There must have been some overlap at some point when the fight could have been made.

Cleverly vs B-Hop, before that pesky Kolalev robbed Nathan by hitting on the back of the head
Re: Super Fights that didnt....
Probably not a 'superfight' in the strictest sense, but Ricardo Lopez against any one of Carbajal, Gonzalez, Johnson or Arbachakov from about 1993 to 1999. Preferably all of them but at least one of them would have done.mobilemaster8 wrote:

Curry vs Hagler.........Was on the cards before Leonard poked his neck out...........Number 1 vs number 2 p4pers ................
Would have been a great fight........
Nelson v Mcguigan............Ko and The Ring were really building this up into a superfight........Barry was big in the States and Nelson with his beating of Gomez and his great performance against Sal was getting attention.......
Cost Nelson superstar status Barry losing..........
Nunn v Leonard.............Leonard got cold feet when Kalambay was dropped..

Mayweather vs Cotto and Mosley should both have happened earlier.
Mosley vs Trinidad should have happened.
De La Hoya vs Winky Wright, the one guy from that era De La Hoya didn't fight, I'm not sure Wright carried the name and backing to make it a "Super Fight" but he deserved a shot.
Not quite a Super Fight again but Morrales vs JMM should have happened at some stage as well

I was thinking about Mosley against Trinidad but the timing was never quite right. By the time Mosley had stepped up to Welterweight, Trinidad made a swift ascension to Middleweight via light middleweight and then retirement.

JMM against Naseem Hamed, I believe Marquez was NO1 contender for Hamed's title, would have been a cracker.

Holmes v Foreman is one that comes up sometimes, George's early first retirement, and Larry coming onto contention in the late seventies meant they just missed each other, but had George continued after theYoung fight, this was a fight that could and should have happened, even as older men in the 90's it would have been interesting. frustrating that they missed the boat twice!

Be just like the Barrera fight.......People often forget Barrera was thought to be on the slide.........Lost to Jones twice, struggled with mckinney and lost a split to Morales.......Nico the gman wrote:JMM against Naseem Hamed, I believe Marquez was NO1 contender for Hamed's title, would have been a cracker.

On a domestic level, Bruno-Mason would've been a cracker.

Calzaghe vs Ottke - would have been good and would have enabled Calzaghe to move onwards sooner and could have led to some interesting fights.
Hamed vs Morales - if only Hamed had still be training like a challenger around the Barrera fight we could have had some great fights in an exciting division and led to fights with Marquez / Pacman.
