Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
No, I'm expecting Atiga to receive a hospital pass behind our own tryline.....but to somehow side step the onrushing Zebre players gracefully, reminiscent of Phil Bennett, break out from under the posts with accelaration not seen since the great Christian Cullen, deploy a Toonie flip to release Jack Cuthbert past the last line of defence and then back up Cuthbert to ensure that when the Zebre tighthead prop catches up with him around the half way line, Atiga is on hand to deftly receive the return pass and blaze away under the Zebre posts to score what pundits will later refer to as the finest try in the history of the universe. The crowd will not cheer. The crowd will simply sit and admire, recognising that they have just seen rugby perfection, and contemplate how life will ever again live up to that moment. The consolation will be that they can say to their children, and their children's children, that they were there when Ben Atiga scored "that" try.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
I am feeling relatively confident, the back row looks alright considering in a few weeks denton/rennie will be back.I just dont think Fife will see the ball with the players inside him. Would like to see beard get some game time because big ben is not the answer at 12 after Scott. Regarding farndale he has been in and out of the accies team but is supposed to start this weekend (as is lee jones!?!? ) . I dont think he is a great player apart from his strength/speed so lets hope his leg break last year has not affected that.

As a 19 year old winger those two things are his main asset, especially speed - he can work on the rest of his game easily enough!CraigS1874 wrote:I am feeling relatively confident, the back row looks alright considering in a few weeks denton/rennie will be back.I just dont think Fife will see the ball with the players inside him. From what I've seen he's also a very good finisher - bodes well to have him and Visser in the same team.

Yeah point taken and i cant really talk last time I played against him he scored 3 and I missed a tackle on him yeah no doubt good for his age and will probably get capped but he is not ready for pro rugby just yet as I have been told his hands/passing need a lot of workRDW_Scotland wrote:As a 19 year old winger those two things are his main asset, especially speed - he can work on the rest of his game easily enough!CraigS1874 wrote:I am feeling relatively confident, the back row looks alright considering in a few weeks denton/rennie will be back.I just dont think Fife will see the ball with the players inside him. Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
Ah so you're just jealous he made it and you didn't??
It is a familiar story with young wingers - great basic abilities but really needs to work on the rest of his game. Again, very similar to Tim Visser.
The fact that he has that basic ability is what is promising though - at the end of the day all a winger really has to do is catch the ball and run very fast!

Shame the games not on TV, but I do enjoy the chaps on BBC radio Scotland.
They were describing Ben Atiga on attack, "it's like a slowmotion sidestep there"

Yes we are. It was all going fine until we switched off at that restart. Can't say Zebre don't deserve it.

sounding ominous on the radio. Apparently Zebre have butchered 2 tries?

Hooray for the forum writers curse, Du Preez with the try. And suddenly we're back in front.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
Scrappy game, mixture of good play and farce. Some good individual performances and a few to forget. No question that these were two poor sides, but that's 8 points from 2 games which is ultimately what matters.
Du Preez was MOTM and rightly so. Cox and Dickinson improved us, and two squint throws aside, Lutui was a tank. Kennedy was sharp, and in defence Atiga was useful. Cuthbert had some horrible moments, and Tonks was pretty good all game but had one high profile unforced error which cost us territory at a key stage.
Not a high quality game, but just pleased to win.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
Tonks error made me chuckle, if you turn to the side to catch the ball don't turn to the side facing 1 metre from the touchline and drop the ball in.
Wasn't the worst game ever, Edinburgh deserved the win, but I counted 3/4 bombed tries from Zebre, and I mean seriously bombed!
Both teams will be ultimately happy though.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
I know Lutui got a lot of stick when he signed but wow he fairly makes yards, I didn't think Leonard was great considering the forwards played pretty well he chose the wrong option too much. Cuthbert also poor but the front row du Perez atiga and rennie were all encouraging. Lucky to get the win and need to improve but a wins a win. Disappointed we didn't see beard come of the bench though, I wanted to see what he was like.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
Well done Edinburgh. The BBC news report is quite fulsome - we apparently built a comfortable lead by 50 minutes and spent the remainder of the game trying to squander it.
Briliant news about Rennie. I want nothing more than for him to have a period uninjured.

Re: Edinburgh Rugby v Zebre, 1 November
We really did try to squander it GC, it was text book squandering. Territory was key, and yet both Cuthbert and Tonks saw fit to reward two completely aimless long range punts with knock-ons, and our lineout was a shambles as always.
Still, Zebre were dreadful as well. A number of passes found thin air followed by a confused look as the ball hit the turf or went out, and despite having two dangerous runners on the wing, the Zebre midfield was pretty clueless.
The scoreline was a fair reflection ultimately, and the least bad side won.
