Having back surgery, hes been thinking about next year for a while anyway. kimi already had ferrari seat fitting too. Valsecchi will be way off the pace after not driving

Good experience at least I guess. Still waiting on that cash boost aren't they?

Perhaps the cash boost won't come until the end of the season and this is a cover story for Kimi's boycott?

No its a genuine back issue, its just that it suits all parties really. Kimi scoring more points in the final two races means even more bonuses on top of his salary, which lotus don't really need. I think deep down they know they aren't going to beat Mercedes in the constructors.

Back ops are pretty serious jobs, good couple of months to fully recover. He'd want time to prepare during the winter & be ready for end of January for testing. F1 off seasons are so short nowadays, can see the urgency in getting it done.
I'd expect valsecchi to perform as well as D`Ambrosio did at Monza last year. Woefully.

Not that surprising and as John said, its probably a win-win situation for all involved.
Hope Kimi makes a full recovery in time for next season.
