Phillips ban?
Ok I know he's not been cited or anything yet.....but if he is for the stamp on the hand of an oz player.
How will a ban work? As he is to all intents and purposes unemployed, so a ban I worthless and would not effect him.
Just throwing it out there

Well if you are going to take a dive, it is worth doing it well, just not too well though, he might hurt himself.

Re: Phillips ban?
I actually think not having a club could make the ban figure out a lot worse for Phillips. It could one of two ways...
1) Nobody will sign him if his ban extends to being banned for matches after he signs for a new club.
2) Even if the above is not the case he won't be able to get signed until the ban is over as what club is going to sign a player who is serving a lengthy ban....and I think it will be a lengthy ban given his record. By which I'm talking about his history of knee drops and elbows.

Re: Phillips ban?
if he's not playing for a club, his ban could be indefinite as Wales aren't going to pick him and lose a bench player. really interested to see how this one is ruled on by the authorities.
whatever he gets, its probably not quite enough anyway.

I didn't see the match today. My club was having an alumni day today and I was there with one of my lads. Was checking the updates on the BBC Sport app. This is a fascinating question - how to suspend someone who doesn't have a team.
I will watch on Sunday morning. When in the match did this happen?

Some guy on the bbc live text said that Cooper (I think) bit his calf after the stamp. Any truth in that?

That was pretty bad. hard to tell if he knew Cooper's hand was there, but his foot did come down pretty hard.

Ouch!
That looks nasty!
What stage in the game did that happen? Phillips and Cooper seemed to be having an on-going niggle at each other all match. Was this what started it?
The press are saying Phillips will be sorting out a new contract today and hopes to play round 3! Surely he can't play Amlin as he has already represented Bayonne this season???
It looks like he could be allowed to be registered for the HEC though. I wonder why the discrepency?
Of course that might all be irrelevent if he gets banned.

Please don't ban him - he's worth a number of points to the opposition on the field.

Wow that was actually a lot worse than what I was expecting. Definitely intended to hurt Cooper. Does also look like Cooper might try and bite his leg, but not much in that tbh. Don't think there's enough there to say anything about Cooper.

IMHO with Phillips history if Cooper did bite we would have seen a reaction from Phillips.

Didn't notice it but I think that's pretty nasty from the video, the intent was there to hurt him.
Not sure how his ban would work but I think that if he doesn't have a club it should carry on to the test arena,... I.e. 2wk ban, if he has no club to serve it then it should go to test rugby as in 2 weeks from Wales next test.

Looks even worse seeing it again, could easily have broken the wrist. Hard to say if it was intentional though. From memory it was a few minutes before the last Aus try of the first half.

If it wasn't intentional, why does he move his leg in the first place?

Also with Phillips, when he bounced Cooper another Australian drove him backwards. While this was happening Phillips had his tongue out and appeared to be jeering at Cooper...while being driven backwards.

Even his stamp is slow.
I think he knew exactly what he was doing as he has no club presumably any ban would just be for internationals? Ie. 6N

That's a bad one, he'll be cited for that...
He needs to find out if Horwill's lawyer is free for the hearing. You know the lawyer that got Horwill off after his stamping of Alun Wyn's head in the first Lions test

I agree, you can clearly see he is only stamping down on the hand to regain his balance. A hand isn't as good as a head for getting your balance though, so he wobbled a bit.No9 wrote:That's a bad one, he'll be cited for that...

Interestingly, WalesOnline (not the most reliable source) are also linking him to Racing Metro where he would once again team up with Lions partner Sexton.

This story has made its way onto the BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/25178285
But now the focus seems to be as much about asking if Cooper then bit Phillips on the leg....
At least nobody was seriously hurt

Re: Phillips ban?
Adam Thomson might feel justifiably outraged after the absolute pumelling he took from the IRB last year, stepping in to enforce an unjustifiable ban that may have ended his AB career over a much lesser incident than Philips deliberate stamp.
Looks like Welsh fans have a double standard when it comes to thuggery. Just last week there was outrage that Andrew Hore should be celebrated in the NZ media on his retirement.
Now where are those same posters? they should be sending the same sort of bile in Philips direction if they are consistent at all.

So if a player is cited within 12 hours of the match it doesn't count?IRB wrote:17.15.1 Subject to Regulation 17.15.3 and 17.15.4, a citing complaint by a Citing Commissioner must be sent in writing to the nominated officer of the Host Union or Tournament Organiser responsible for the Match in which the incident that is the subject of the citing complaint occurred within ordinarily a minimum of 12 hours and no later than a maximum of 48 hours of the conclusion of the Match. What double standards are you referring to specifically? Thompson put his boot to a players head. When have I said this was ok? I'm all for a bit of agression and a some dirty play but if you get caught doing something like this you cant really complain if you get a ban.GloriousEmpire wrote:

Yes, he put his boot on a players head. But he didn't stomp. I don't see anywhere in the laws where that is a transgression. However, stamping on someone's hand is.

Thompson was rightly banned, he didn't place his foot on Strokosch's head as you suggest. Phillips should also be banned.GloriousEmpire wrote:Yes, he put his boot on a players head. What are the double standards you were referring to anyway? Still dont get that comment.
