Maybe a little harsh on halfpenny but it seems that form in November makes a big difference for this award.

Gave up on caring about this award after Richie won it in 2009 over BOD and Fourie du preez. Its a popularity contest more than anything else.

Not to mention player of the year in the most prestigious of all...the Steinlager Rugby Awards.



It should be a clear motivation to guys like Faletau, Morgan and Vuinpola that if they work on their fitness, skills, work rate and leadership skills that they too could one day win a prestigious award themselves.

Good to see an award going to the right man after the farce of UK coach of the year award!  

And Canterbury rightly voted for the best environment in the world to change people in need of reform to world class citizens. Doesn't matter where you're from or who you are, living in Christchurch will make you a better person. Case in point. Read born and raised in South Auckland. Moves to Christchurch and he becomes a world class player and top all round bloke. Not the first and won't be the last.

Giving a UK Coaching award to the guy who has won the first Lions tour in 16 years leading a UK and Ireland team is a farce.

Yes one of the many top young players poached by the little England pony club. Christchurch is the most English of New Zealand cities. I guess he's a bit like Thomas Waldrom in that respect.
