From 1-9 we have gone for experience. Maybe ageing however we have class and youth on the bench to come on. Ayerza cemented his place is a huge threat and we will look to him to really make some strong tackles and rattle the oppo. Chuter's expreience at the line-out will prove vital, and Castro will cause any side problems. Deacon returns alongside the impressive Kitchener, and Deacon will be crucial in the line out. Weepu starts at scrum half and yet again he will box kick on a regular basis. Hook makes debut a full back and will be our kicker.

Tactics:

In good running rugby weather, look to secure quick ball at the breakdown through clever application (but not overapplication when ball is already secured or lost) of numbers, and the work of the backrow with the locks clearing out. If the ball is slow, maul it and take on their pack physically with drives in units, with support ready to receive offloads or ruck to create quick ball. Parra to constantly look for gaps to run at, send traffic down or kick to. Quick ball, noted by Parra, will be spun wide and the backs will look to attack the line through Cruden or Bastareaud on the crash (or forwards and Byrne on the inside pop), create space out wide and offload into it with wings running support lines and Bardy and Burger chasing the ball to support at offload targets or ball-securers.

Set piece- work at 100% intensity from the off in scrum knowing we have strong subs. Look for backrow moves to attack the blindside wing, neutralise their backrow and 9. Give them the front of the lineout and prepare to defend with mauls (front ball never goes wide) and mix up our options here.

Defence- Blitz led by King, Parra to cover the channel inside 10. Aggressive defence off fringes of rucks attacking their 9

Kicking- run back most ball and kick to space not players. Chase all kicks. Kick difficult kicks to corners and maul them

Subs- use front row subs to allow us to play 2x40 high intensity halves in the pack (and 5 forward subs to go with this)

Other- once again we are at home where we are unbeaten in 68 games. We also have momentum against this side.

TACTICS

We will play a traditional South African gameplan in the forwards, being ultra physical and looking to dominate the collisions in attack and defence.  We are aiming to control possession by running the ball in great conditions, using the pack and big backs off first phase ball, with support runners on the ball carriers shoulder for the offloads in or just prior to contact.  We will be looking to play our game at a high tempo. Cooper will play flat with the outside backs coming from positions of depth to gain momentum.  In defence we will employ the blitz and look to hit the ball carrier before he hits the gainline to stop Stormers getting any momentum.  Freddie Michalak will act as a sweeper behind the defensive line.

• Breakdown.  In attack we will put numbers in rucking past the ball to free it up quickly to go again.  In defence we will be selective.  If it is on to clear out and turn ball over we will throw numbers in to do so, otherwise we will keep a strong defensive line.
  
• Spaces not faces.  Our runners will target the gaps in the defensive line rather than defenders and look to breach the gainline regularly.
  
• Crash Ball.  George North to be used at times as a crash ball option running an out to in line through midfield with a support runner on his shoulder.
  
• Desire  A few players who've not had much game time so far are starting and will be wanting to put in a performance to show they are worth a starting jersey.

Another home game for us, Toulon coming over to us after 2 games at home. We have picked a team capable of playing for territory, with Taylor, Davies and Dagg all excellent kickers backing up Carter. We are happy to get into a kicking duel with Toulon, as they only really have James as a top kicking option. As always, Folau is to chase everything and we will especially aerially target the 5'8 Smith who is up against Folau on our right wing.

In the scrum, we expect a solid platform, Hartley to target Cooper in the scrum by not hooking on opposition ball and just pushing, we hope the height difference between Hayman and Cooper will make it tough for them to bind. In the lineout, Whitelock to challenge Bonnaire every time, on our ball we will use Whitelock as a decoy and use Gorgodze, Bird and Read as alternate catchers.

At the breakdown, target Armitage as their other back rowers are a step slower. Todd is lightning across the ground and we expect him to get to the ball before Armitage, Gorgodze has played 7 against Toulon and is well equipped to deal with their back row. We want Gorgodze and Todd to focus on breakdown, and leave Read able to get out wider and do damage with his carrying.

In defence, Todd is to try and get into James' face, and rattle him as he has shown he can be. The scrum half is making his first appearance of the season, I want Pelissie to make his life difficult at the scrum, pressurising him on his own ball.

Taylor is in the team to help us take advantage when we get into their 22, his distribution to our strike runners means the relatively slow Toulon pack can't key in on Carter. Dagg as always is our target when we get turnover ball, let him take it up and play in others or use his pace to get in himself.

Richie is on the bench to help close out the game with his experience, Romano, Crockett and Crotty are all current all blacks who add impact late on

We will play an expansive game today with a lot of players coming in on a rotational basis after all of the teams have played a lot of big games recently and showcasing the depth of our squad. James will look to play a kicking game pinning them back with our centres look for quick counter attack ball from a back row who can target the breakdown. Strong front row with immense power to come on and a 2nd row who are used to driving players back come scrum time. We have selected a centre partnership who will make good breaks and look for quick recycling of the ball to keep them on the back foot and under constant pressure. Forwards will look to carry a lot in first 20 punching the holes before moving to running off of 12-13.

*9-10 combo-we have Tillous-Borde who can deliver quick ball to Butch who will then look to play a fast attacking game especially from turnover ball.
*Bench-Our bench is full of impact and will look to dominate the end of the game.
*Defence-we have strong defensive leaders in Butch, Mermoz, Bonnaire and will look to slow down/turnover a lot of ball.
*Set Piece-power is key today at scrum time and in the lineouts using Bonnaire's leading skills to get good ball.

SP: Good from Tigers and Toulouse have a lot of youthful exuberance in their pack.
BK: Again good from Tigers but Toulouse a step up on the flanks.
HB: Feel Pienaar will orchestrate well here.
OB: Toulouse a big step up here.
BE: Toulouse forwards are strong, if Tigers had started their backs replacements it may have been a closer game.
TA: None from Toulouse stops this being a rout. Still need more from Tigers to know how they are going to play rather than a press release.

Clermont 25-23 Racing
SP: Honours even here, can't split them.
BK: Same with this one with 2 great backrow partnerships.
HB: Would give 9 to Racing but feel Cruden is in slightly better form than Sexton but not much in it.
OB: Sorry guys again I can't split this one, very close match.
BE: See Racing having a slight advantage here.
TA: Massive for Racing not having any in what is such a tight game. Clermont pick the right tactics by playing a tight game with the ball not coming out from the centres too often, the tactics win the game.

Toulouse 30 - 24 Tigers
Scrum- fairly even, maybe edge to Tigers
Lineout- also Tigers with Croft the difference with both sides having decent jumpers and throwers
Breakdown- slight advantage to Toulouse, neither has a standout operator but several good contributors
Carrying- more in tight to Toulouse but Tigers fine. Croft loses a bit in open play due to injury
HBs- advantage to Toulouse, but both sides have good kicking at 9, 10 and 15. Williams green but will grow into role
Attack- in an ideal world, switch Allen and Smith. Tigers ok but look a bit disjointed with the centres and Hook not in their best positions. Toulouse very tasty here.
Defence- see above re positions
Subs- forwards heavily to Toulouse, backs to Tigers, especially with the risky 4-4 split. They will make a difference
Overall - at home, Toulouse win with thir backs and HBs, but Tigers close the gap late on.

Crusaders 22 - 20 Toulon

Scrum- hard to call, both sides will win their own ball ok
Lineouts- Hartley excellent thrower and gelled with Whitehead etc but Toulon will win their ball here with several excellent jumpers
Breakdown- evens
Carrying- Crusaders win with 2 exceptional carriers in he back row
HBs- edge Crusaders,Taylor more help to Carter than Fofana to James too. Vital in weather
Attack- tactics from Crusaders take pressure off Carter to operate. 2 exceptional sets of outback and good tactics but tempered by weather.
Defence- excellent tactics re advantage to Crusaders
Subs- edge Toulon
Overall- home advantage and good tactics see Crusaders win a game that would have been high scoring in better weather.

Toulouse 24-23 tigers

Much better line up for Tigers this week, and the pack will be a good unit. Still very unsure as to whether Chuter is of the required class to play in this league. I think Leicester win the set piece with Croft and Kitchener owning the lineout, but Toulouse have an edge at the breakdown, half backs and outside backs. The centre partnership for Leicester just hasnt looked settled all season, this is a major area for them to focus on imo. Even without tactics, I think they have enough to sneak the win based on the teams.

Clermont 23-19 Racing

No tactics from Racing, so very tough to give them an away win. On paper, Racing have the edge at the breakdown and Youngs closes the gap on Parra in the halfbacks. I would have preferred to see Fall at FB and Smith on the wing, but the back 3 is still very good, if limited by the centre partnership.

For Clermont, they have picked a good side and have made use of the good conditions well. Bastareud and Roberts could make for an interesting afternoon in the 12 channel!

With the set piece advantage, home field and tactics I give Clermont the win

Toulouse 32 - 18 Leicester Tigers 

Tigers are set up much better this week, but still unsure in some areas. Toulouse have a real hard edge to them but lack the guile of Tigers in the set pieces. Then it goes down hill as only Huget can inspire in the backs for me, as everyone else is either out of position or not up to standard just yet. Toulouse take this one at home. 

ASM Clermont Auvergne 36 - 32 Racing Metro 

Two great pack which sets up the game well with both set up nicely. the difference comes in the form of the spines of the back lines as Clermont have more to offer, although I think King and Basteruad need to swap places. Both back threes are in fine form and offer some real attacking threats especially with ball in hand. The Racing bench will change some momentum, but Clermont get the result at home!

Crusaders 18 - 14 Toulon 

In the conditions Toulon may struggle against the against the constant wave upon wave from the Saders pack. With the scrum and line-out being big points in the conditions. With Crusaders going all out attack in the cup with their lineup and it shows through their intent during this game.
