Jeff Jarrett potentially starting a new promotion
Konnan told listeners that he had a recent talk with Jeff Jarrett regarding his TNA departure, and Jarrett informed Konnan that TNA is in really bad shape right now, and he neither knows nor cares if the promotion will make it through the year.
Konnan then revealed that Jarrett told him he will be making a big announcement this week regarding a new project, and that it's likely to be a new promotion with partner Toby Keith.
As we have reported in the past, Keith was the celebrity name rumored to be in talks with TNA about purchasing the promotion, but when those talks fell through, Jarrett announced his resignation from TNA shortly after.
In what could be a hint that Jim Ross might be involved in the new promotion, (but could also be completely unrelated to Jarrett and his announcement) JR recently noted on Twitter that he had a meeting with a "major sports concern." In what could further be an indication that Ross might be involved in the Jarrett/Keith announcement, JR posted the following on Twitter:

“@Judge1979: @JRsBBQ Meeting with Toby Keith eh? Maybe him and @JeffJarrettTNA have an offer you can't refuse? #conspiracytheory” Hmm.

Could be interesting if true especially with JR potentially involved considering his experience

If this is true then TNA must be in bad shape for it's very creator to give up on it! I'm personally very disappointed in these recent developments as I really believe in TNA and think its roster deserve better management.

Has JR ever been involved in the business end of things (genuine question)?

He was in charge of talent relations for years in the WWF/E, hiring & firing and negotiating contracts and the like. At one point, he was pretty much second in command to Vince McMahon.
I'm not sure if he was ever involved on the creative side of things in the WWE but I remember reading that he was part of a booking committee back in WCW.
I doubt he'd want another role like talent relations/booker, especially for a start up company but he may well be interested in an announcer role that allowed him time to pursue his other interests.

TNA does seem to be in quite a creative hole with no clear ideas about how its going to dig itself out. They have some very talented wrestlers but are over-reliant on their wrestling ability, as there are almost no decent feuds or storylines going on, other than the ongoing title tussle between Magnus and Styles.
Look at it this way: the current Knockouts champion is reduced to issuing open fight challenges on a weekly basis (though after losing to Madison Rayne, there could be a feud right there). For the past year or more the Knockouts Division has revolved around 3 or 4 wrestlers and a succession of title challenges, rather than any actual stories or feuds.
There is the current farcical situation of 2 heavyweight champions, each with their own belt...one of whom doesn't even have a contract with the company and doesn't appear to be in any hurry to re-sign.
There is virtually no structure to any of their divisions, no pecking order and no feuds worth of the name.
In the X Division you have Chris Sabin and Austin Aries...thats pretty much it since Zema Ion is currently playing at being a DJ. What happened to Manik, Petey Williams, Sonjay Dutt etc?
Tag Team Division: laughably Bro Mans are the current title holders. Are there any credible teams to oppose them besides Kazarian & Daniels?
The Heavyweight Division has the Roode - Angle feud ongoing, as well as the Magnus - Styles title shenanigans. Gunner won himself a title shot in Feast or Fired but how long will he have to wait to cash it in? Good wrestler and a great heel character, but doesn't seem heavyweight champion material. One of their top talents Jeff Hardy, currently has nothing to occupy his time and in any case is having a break to avoid the Maximum Impact tour.
For the above reasons I'm ready to give up on TNA if something better comes along. As I said, they have some great talent, but its woefully misused on a creative level. It really is just the in-ring action that holds your attention for the most part and when that fails to excite, you can understand why the Impact Zone is quiet so often.
If Jarrett's plan comes off and he is able to create a rival promotion, or if TNA does eventually go to the wall, hopefully a lot of those guys will simply jump ship.

I'd hope the best ones go to ROH and ROH take their TV slot too. I like ROH, but I'm too lazy to watch it cos its not directly on my screen in front of me

that's not your fault though, ROH might be happy with their lot bbut if they ever hope to grow and progress it's up to them to come bring the action to the fans not expect potential fans to scour the Internet in hope that they might find something that may or may not like

I wonder how much stigma Jarrett will incur if he starts another company? In the beginning he was accused of making TNA just because he couldn't get a job in WWE! Has his stock improved or will he just put the title on himself again like the first few years of TNA?

Well, he's a fair bit older now. Unless he fancies one last title run, I'd have thought he'd settle for either a behind-the-scenes role, where he can directly guide/grow the company, or being a Hogan / Sting type authority figure (he seems to like throwing his weight around, so surely that'd be perfect for him).
