Key selection points:
* Beat Glasgow upfront in the pack, far strong front five to set a good attacking platform. Pack is very fresh and has been rested over last few weeks to target HC.
* Team selected to play high intensity, fast-paced attacking game to make best of conditions, run Glasgow all over the field and look for tries from the off. Aim to wear down Glasgow defensively before we bring on the bench.
* Huge impact bench to bring on in second half and finish final 30 minutes very strongly
* Win the collisions and gainline battle.
* Unbeaten in Europe in 18 months, Glasgow been beaten in all games so far comfortably and bottom of the group. Will look to score tries.
Tactics:Saints will play a high intensity/tempo'd game from the outset and take the game to Glasgow. We will look to place Bath under pressure with a really physical, aggressive approach and defence to force errors and mistakes to exploit. We will look to win the gainline battle and the collisions with our big ball carriers and generate quick ball for our backline. We want the game to be open and expansive and have picked a backline that can score tries from anywhere. Bench to really hit Glasgow hard in final 30 minutes to target a high scoring game.

In dry conditions we will be looking to play a possession game, using big carriers to go through the phases and suck in defenders before spinning it wide. We will look to offload in or just before the tackle and keep the ball alive to play at a high tempo. Our back row will look to support and hit rucks hard to free up quick ball.
In defence, as always we will be running a blitz defence. Our focus will be on the gainline collisions and driving back in the tackle. Line speed and no dog-legs will be key components for us. Smith will sweep in behind the defensive line to counter any chips/grubbers.

Tactics
Retain possession in the Treviso half with carriers off 9 and 10 before spreading the ball wider when the defence is tied in. Look for our carriers to win the collisions and get across the gain line. When in our own half we will assess the options with option of kicking behind the Treviso back three or launching an attack.
Look to control the breakdown with Warburton getting on top.
Look to control the set piece with our pack looking to control at scrum and line out as well as disrupt opposition ball.
Key is to get a 5 point win here. Intensity from the off to get the job done.
Pool 6 - Sale Sharks vs Munster

We will play a fast paced, high intensity offloading game looking to create space for our halfbacks and to get our back three onto the ball as much possible.
- Target the scrum. Good technical front row supported by plenty of grunt will look to get on top and win penalties.
- Attack from the lineout. Five genuine jumping options allows us to mix it up and really use the lineout as an attacking platform. Look to get the ball to Sexton and Eastmond with space outside.
- Target the opposition lineout with Retalick jumping at the front and Attwood & Nyanga marshalling the middle. We will look to make the lineout as scrappy as possible for Munster and prevent them from setting the maul.
- Look to mix up play. Sexton & Eastmond to interchange at first receiver and change the point of attack. Care provides a threat snipping around the base.
- Get the back three involved. Eastmond, Gilroy and Bendy all to run lines looking for the inside ball or offload to get in behind the opposition defence.
- Hit the breakdown hard. Look to our dynamic front five to clear the ruck and allow the likes of Nyanga & Todd to really attack the breakdown.
- More room to play. Keatley is suffering in recent times with his kicking percentage averaging around 50%! This gives us more leeway to attack the breakdown and get dirty!
- Straight line blitz defence focusing on a quick line speed to isolate the ball carrier before the gain line. Care to sweep in behind to cover chips and grubbers.

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Had a nightmare with laptop last night so the post I thought I did was not posted - would someone please add the following tactics up for me and throw Jordan Williams on the bench (originally had Elliot Daly and then remembered he was injured).

Ospreys 13-20 Glaws
Not an awful lot between the packs at the set piece or breakdown but Glaws have more of a carrying game in the open which suits the conditions. Halfbacks one a piece but Glaws as a combo have a little more but in the backs there’s a gulf of class. Same can be said of the bench.
Saints 30-18 Glasgow
Glasgow having a poor year and just can’t match the Saints pack around the park. Expect Saints halfbacks to have a field day and really get the attacking game going.
Wasps 40-15 Zebre
Don’t think anything needs to be said!
Toulouse 13-16 Tigers
Monster pack battle here in possibly the game of the round. Backlines are fairly even. Feel Toulouse edge the bench a little but its halfback where this is won. Tigers pair capable of dominating the tempo in this one.
Newcastle 22-15 Clermont
See Falcons getting a slight edge at the breakdown but set piece battle is even. Backlines are fairly similar but halfbacks are a step up to Falcons and see Cruden on the bench bringing serious impact late on.
Treviso 10-32 Quins
Treviso taken a step backwards this year and a decent Quins side should see a bonus point in Italy.

Quick question. Isn't Edwin Maka a Toulouse player and therefore can't play for Tigers against them?

Rule for the past 2 and half years has been you can't pick players if they are from the club you are facing in Europe, nothing about whether they are in the team.

I think Cruden seems to be rated more coming off the bench for me.

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Ospreys 22 - 27 Glaws
Gloucester have more quality and can get the away win.
Sale 28 - 12 Munster
Sale too strong at home for Munster, think Abendanon returning for Bath in real life makes a huge difference for SJE's team, some great spark and go forward from the back.
Wasps 50 - 18 Zebre
Cricket score.
Toulouse 15-20 Tigers
Have been quite disappointed with Toulouse this season and they aren't the team they once were - Tigers pack is certainly strong enough to get a win and the right fly half to steer them to a win.
Newcastle 33 - 29 Clermont
Falcons win the battle of the breakdown, home advantage and some very good attacking players for them. Driver really transformed the backline. Great game on the cards and Falcons will edge it.
Treviso 15-32 Quins
Few key players rested by Quins, but they have a lot of form with the players they have (with exception of Burns). See them getting the bp win quite comfortably.

Really? I thought it was if they were selected. Checked their side and left Cencus out for that reason.

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Same as Luke I always thought it was if players were named in the opposition side?! I've no issue with it Maka isn't involved for Toulouse not going to step in with punishments especially in such a well balanced group

Fair enough, but the rule has always been as I described it, hence I didn't play Tolofua against them when I faced them, even though he wasn't in their side.

Pete is right re the rule. To be fair maka
Is not really going to make much difference but the rule was they can't play against their club

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Ospreys 20-24 Glos
Close game, Glos back 5 in pack can get the quick ball needed and feel they are more dangerous outwide.
Saints 30-16 Glasgow
Saints way too strong here and will get the bonus point.
Wasps 45-12 Zebre
Simple win for Wasps.
Toulouse 15-16 Tigers
Think this game will be close, Tigers will get a slight edge on the pack battle and feel that Wilkinson will bring enough control to the game to nick it.
Falcons 24-20 Clermont
Great Falcons bench and like the look of their backline which will win the collisions and make inroads with their back 3's running. Upfront Clermont are strong in the front row but feel Falcons backrow will gain the advantage come the breakdown. Great game!
Treviso 9-36 Quins
Treviso not playing great, think they lost to Zebre over Christmas! Quins showing their strength in depth in some positions. Good win.
Sharks 25-19 Munster
Good tactics from Sale and a good tempo for their half back pairing. Even at the scrum but Munster could cause issues at the lineout. Think Sale will edge the breakdown and look much more dangerous in the outside backs to take a great win.

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Do we need
Explanation for full
Scores
In euros ?
Plan to
Only do
Ones where 2 ap teams play each other. Will amend if corrected
Saints 39-16 Glasgow
Saints way too strong here and will get the bonus point.
Wasps 60-22 Zebre
Easy
Toulouse 15-16 Tigers
Big collisions tough game.
Leicester
Street wise
And key positions have personnel to sneak it
Falcons 23-17 Clermont
Bench and backs see
Falcons
Win it
Treviso 15-30 Quins
Not best Quins side but more than enough
Sharks 25-22Munster
SJE only has 6 English so will have a point deduction coming. I
Assumed that Todd would be replaced by kvesic in this match if
Wrong let me
Know and will score. Think sale take key exchanges but that Munster backrow is in great form and make a nuisance and ruin game. Close due
To
Late rally by Munster and weak sale

Yeah your right Matt genuine mistake on my part thought it was 6 EQ for some reason
Kvesic should be in the starting side and Todd on the bench I'll be taking a points fine for it

Re: Heineken Cup Round Five
Ospreys 22-26 Gloucester
Not an incredible side this Ospreys team and Gloucester have enough strength to over come them.
Saints 38-11 Glasgow
Glasgow aren't a great side and the Saints side is sufficiently strong to come away with a bonus point win
Wasps 59-6 Zebre
At home this isn't even a contest
Toulouse 17-19 Tigers
Great contest. Not a huge amount in the teams. The major discrepancy for me comes at half back where Toulouse aren't in the same league imo
Newcastle 25-21 Clermont
Similar story here. 3 of the 4 half backs on the Neqcastle squad are international quality, whereas the Clermont ones aren't. With James and Parra it could be a different story
Treviso 7-36 Quins
Quins too strong even with most of their players being backup or reserve players. Treviso not strong enough to take advantage
Sale 27-22 Munster
Sale just have a stronger side. Munster are not the force they once were. Good form keeps it close
