London Pubs for 6N Matches Empty London Pubs for 6N Matches

Post by Guest Tue Jan 07, 2014 6:37 pm

I'm thinking specifically the 2nd weekend (not that that matters) as the other ones I'm visiting other people and their own alleged "best rugby pubs" in their hometowns. What are some of the better pubs in London for 6N matches? All I know, unfortunately, is the Sports Bar down near Trafalgar Square and whilst the screen is big, frankly the food and drink is expensive and ... it's not actually a pub.

Got a friend coming so we'll go watch the Saturday matches somewhere.

I live in Canada Water but I don't really care where the pub is - maybe not super North West London though

Help, thanks Smile

If you mean central London then the Porterhouse in covent garden is good. Loads of different beers and screens etc. It will be busy so if you want a table/food then get there early/ reserve one.

I've watched a few matches there over the years and its always been good fun with a mixture of different supporters in there.

I'd say get yourself down to a local rugby club - bound to be on TV in just about every clubhouse in east London. From the dicklands I'd try Eton Manor just north of the Olympic stadium - wander over to watch a game then enjoy the TV version.
If you want to watch a game featuring Ireland Waxy O'Connors off Wardour Street is a good bet.

The beer in the Porterhouse was not that great when I went there in December. And it wasn't just me complaining. Maybe it was an "off day" but then again, maybe not.

I would recommend Ye Olde Black Bull in Stratford. Went there for the England/Oz game last year, good screen at back, beer garden, cheap grog and food, knowledgable and friendly crowd, just need to be aware the front of the pub's for soccer. Only a few stops down Jubliee line for you from Canada Waters.

Sad I have finals during the 6N... BBC Sport in the background whilst I revise in the library for me...

I like the suggestion OzT, as you say not very far from CW so I'll call ahead and make sure the matches are on.
Porterhouse might be a little too crowded in the end , not sure , but I'll probably go check it out myself on one of the weekends.

Admittedly when the lass ain't here I'll probably tag along with my rugby club after I play!

There's plenty of rugby next two months, so any other suggestions too?
