V2 Football Podcast - 20th or 27th Febrary 2014 (TBC) - Questions for Fabrice Muamba
I'm so happy to annouce our best guest yet is coming on the V2 Football Podcast, Fabrice Muamba.
Fabrice's Wiki
Fabrice Ndala Muamba (born 6 April 1988) is a retired professional footballer who played for Arsenal, Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers as a central midfielder. Born in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Muamba moved to England at the age of 11, and subsequently played for the England under-21 team.
Muamba began his career in 2002, joining Arsenal's youth academy. After three years, he turned professional in 2005. He made his debut for Arsenal in the League Cup, but played only one other professional match for the club. Following a loan spell with Birmingham City, he made the move permanent in 2007. He stayed with Birmingham City for one additional year, and left after making more than 70 appearances and making his England under-21 debut while with the team. He joined Bolton Wanderers in 2008.
In March 2012, Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during a televised FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspur, from which he recovered despite his heart having stopped for more than an hour. Following medical advice, he announced his retirement from professional football in August 2012.

Fabrice you had the honour of sharing the same hallowed turf as Aaron Wilbraham. Tell me how it felt to be in the great mans presence?

Hampo, a little suggestion. Maybe make this thread a sticky so everyone on the forum can see it, because its such a big name.

Appalling that we can get (fingers crossed he sticks to it, all good so far) such a high profile guest yet only have 2 questions; one of which (no offence Olly) isn't particularly edge of the seat questioning!

I'd probably make it a global thread or something, not everyone scrolls down the football section
My question is legit Owen!!!

Re: V2 Football Podcast - 20th or 27th Febrary 2014 (TBC) - Questions for Fabrice Muamba
What medical improvements have been made since that fateful day at white heart lane to help prevent anything similar happen again?
Have heard you have started a journalism course, what are you aims in journalism and what enticed you to this avenue?
Will you be going to the world cup with the media?
What else do you want to get out of the game?
How popular and competitive is football in the DRC?
How do African teams make the next step up in world football?
Cheers!

"How are you feeling these days?"
I had a distant relative who suffered something similar a few years ago but he was on a golf course at the time and there were no medics nearby. He didn't make it.
I would also like if you could ask "What support (if any) is available to players who have had to retire prematurely due to illness/injury?" and "How is the journalism degree going?". "Why did you go into journalism instead of accounting after retiring?" (http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/fabrice-muamba-talentspotter - it's near the bottom)
"What's on your iPod?"

If you could change one thing about the game what would it be?
Fifa or pro evo?
Whats the hardest thing about a football career?
Most selfless deed by a player that goes unnoticed?
Biggest infuence on your career?

Re: V2 Football Podcast - 20th or 27th Febrary 2014 (TBC) - Questions for Fabrice Muamba
1. How is your path to becoming a sports journalist progressing?
2. Have you been offered any work experience?
3. You said the following
"On the morning of the game I prayed with my father and asked God to protect me - and he didn't let me down."
So do you believe in god?
4. If so, at what point do you suspend belief in science and accept "miracles" with no supporting evidence. After all, your survival was not a miracle but the application of techniques honed by the scientific method. Non of which require the notion of a god to be invoked.
5. It almost seems lazy to invoke the miracle phrase, when what really happened was a lot of great work by clever people. Either in the research or practice phase of the treatment you received. Would you admit god and religion really had no part in your survival?
5. Has the wonder of what science can do shaken your notion that a god exists?

Fabrice: Do you now think that if people feel they have to kneel down and clasp their hands together for anything at all, would it not be better if they did it over a CPR dummy and thus learn some skills that might really, really be useful, and might actually save somebody else's life in the future.?
It's just a thought.

do you think defibrillators should be made universal so that anybody can use them?
im trained on them and frankly they are so easy to use and such a important piece of kit that it could save many lifes. obviously raises questions about misuse but the machines pretty much walk you through the whole process

Re: V2 Football Podcast - 20th or 27th Febrary 2014 (TBC) - Questions for Fabrice Muamba
Was there anything in your medical history at all that could possibly have pre-disposed you to what happened?
Are you aware of the work that the British Heart Foundation do and have you had any contact with them? You are clearly a shining example of the progress that has been made in modern day Cardiac treatment.
I lost my wife to sudden heart failure 7 years ago. There was nothing me or anyone else could have done. It was therefore great to hear your survival story unfold. Do you feel lucky you survived or unlucky that the event happened in the first place?
