Re: Australia v England: 2nd ODI, Brisbane
At last some positive energy from England and good to see Root with a spring in his step.
Hopefully if England win (which I'm almost certain they will) it will make for a much more interesting series over the last 3 games.

Didn't realise there were 3 matches after this - I assumed it was a 7 game series. So just 3 and a quarter more games and the tour is over - the end of the misery is in sight!

Hmm. Far from over...
If one of these comes out soon , yes England should win. But they are playing well , ahead of the rate ...still a big chance of making these runs I think. Maxwell could win this on his own...

Morning / evening folks,
Definitely far from over, Alfie.
I fancy England having the runs on the board. However, we're going to have to get all 10 Australian wickets if we are to win ....

Evening , guildford.
To be honest I am starting to think they will get these runs. Carving up Bresnan here in the power play ; run rate doesn't need dramatic measures ; bowlers not really looking dangerous ...unless one of these chaps makes a mistake I can see them getting the runs with a couple of overs to spare.
Wicket would change things , of course. But not sure where a wicket is coming from...

Hi Alfie,
Just feel (and certainly hope!) that a wicket will come in the chase for runs.
And it does - massive wicket!

Well there's one !
Haddin will be annoyed ...he didn't need to play that. Maxwell very much the key now...

That was a Hisense Arena backcourt lob.
No need for that shot from Haddin... he never got hold of it properly.

Overconfident Haddin , perhaps ? They were on top of the run rate , and that shot wasn't really on...
Still some handy bats to come. Cook will need to keep his field right. Still fifteen plus overs to get 100 so they won't have to smash it.
Nearly a run out !

Re: Australia v England: 2nd ODI, Brisbane
Australia still need 100 and now have only 4 wickets left. Game takes on a very different complexion. Could still change again but we're definitely on top at the moment.
Mainly from looking just at the scoreboard, we again seem a bowler light. The Bopoot combo has been effective as the fifth bowler but there's now no cover for Stokes (I haven't seen Stokes bowl here) whose stats are not good ....

Well that's it then. Maxwell mistimes a pull shot straight down Bopara's throat.

I take it back, but its hard not to be negative given the last few months especially when Haddin was at the crease. If we can't win from here we really should give up cricket altogether.

Just for once Australia haven't judged things well. They were just about there as regards the run rate and needed to sensibly keep turning over rather than go hell for leather with the associated risks.

Re: Australia v England: 2nd ODI, Brisbane
Morning all,
Just catching up with the scores. Seems like Morgan played a good one but England lost a flurry of wickets at the end?
Also, looks like the slow bowlers are doing well. Neither side picked a specialist spinner though...
I would just like to emphasise that this game is not quite over yet. These two can definitely bat, as can Johnson and even McKay is no mug. Run-rate far from out of sight, and all these guys can clear the ropes.
Of course that paragraph will almost certainly prove to be the final nail...

Australia need 76 off 72 but with only 3 wickets left.
As per my opening shot today, we're going to need to get those wickets. Expect us to do so but Linebreaker has some hope until we do ....

Partnership looking dangerous...
England have missed three or four potential run outs in this innings ; and that may well cost them the match. Really need another wicket soon.

Mitchell Johnsons going to score 50 off 12 balls and win it at a canter isnt he?
Mind you its unlikely he'll get a bat. These 2 look set

Morgan off the field with a knee injury. Hope it's not too serious. Whilst on the subject of Morgan, just how well does he have to do here to get himself back into contention for the test side in the summer?

No, Alfie. He went for 13 or 14 in his ninth and last over and feel that might happen again. To be fair his overs before that which I saw (about 5 to 8) were good and effective.
I believe there's a lot of captaincy skill in deciding when to 'stick' with your sixth bowler. I genuinely would have taken Root off after his seventh over when he had 2/29. Admittedly, his eighth over was again tidy but I just felt a clobbering was coming.
All that said, Bopara stays on and gets the 9th wicket Almost there ....
