The slam race
First off, congrats to Stan he played an awesome match. Rafa was clearly hampered by injury from 0-2 in the second set but prior to that Stan was beating him fair and square.
But where does it leave things vis-à-vis the total slam count?
Will Rafa catch Roger? Will he overtake him? Can Roger add one more? Will Rafa start to slow down or is this just a momentary blip?
Personally, I'd make it 40-60 against Rafa catching Fed. I think he may just fall short. I don't think Fed will win another (albeit a further W can't be ruled out). I think the the odds are more definitely against Rafa getting five more to reach 18, but then again if he wins the FO (which Im opmitimistic about his chances for) then the race will really be on!
What say you?

Re: The slam race
I'm really really tired of this topic...once upon a time tennis was never about slam counts. It just went from event to event, enjoying each battle as it came. Now the game has been devalued by the americanised clamour of wanting to define everything through bite-size metrics that neatly parcel everything up. Its like accountants judging the value of service in a business through invoicing alone. Metrics judge the cost but not the value. Slam counts are non comparable except by sheer number alone.
I can never agree that Federer is better than Nadal or Sampras or many others, and vice versa for the others. There is no GOAT...because this what the slam race always hints to...forget it. It's not a race either. Just enjoy the tennis and do the accountancy job on the numbers at the end of their careers.

I agree that there can be no GOAT. Its just a stupid media concoction but I don't think theres any harm in speculating about who may end up with the most slams.
