Dubai Desert Classic
First topic message reminder :
The final part of the desert swing takes place in Dubai this week. OWGR level is back to the pre-crisis 48, perhaps the world economy is back on track and has Dubai to show it?
As for the tournament: one of the older tournaments on the ET schedule nowadays. Nice to see the change of view if you follow this link: http://www.golf.nl/nieuws/detail/deze-week-in-golf-115/
Rory looks good for a win this week, and so are a number of other hot shots (RCB, Olesen, Luiten) and not to mention 9C and Henrik, although the latter two still have to find their way around this season so it seems.
Hopefully we are in for a good one!

The front nine has 1 par 5 and the back 9 has three. I'm sure that is a contributory factor puligny.

Doesn't account for 140 shots though does it? It's also 35/37 but still seems too big a difference. Like 2 distinct courses!

Steve Webster has always looked like a very simple little chap. But come on. He must know the golf grip is right hand low?
Bit of a jittery start for Gallacher.

McIloy seems to be repeating his putting performance from the final round of abu dhabi event, nothing from 10 to 12 feet looks like it is going in. Although we are only on hole 3.

I don't tend to support payers based on nationality.
What the hell has happened anyway? Some terrible play out there just now from almost everyone in the top 10.

Kwini
We mentioned the grand stand shot. May just have been used in the extreme for Grillo!

What happened Mac?
Been multi-tasking here and don't have it on.
I like Grillo though, the next South American star?

Re: Dubai Desert Classic
He hit the grandstand behind 18 about the second level up, it bounced back onto the green about pin high but about 50 foot left. He holed the putt for eagle and is now co-leader.

Re: Dubai Desert Classic
Hate it when that happens - too many grandstands are too close to greens.
Kind of reminds me of the RSG Open and the hospitality nonsense down the right-hand side of the 18th fairway and guys were hitting it in there with impunity because they didn't want to go left. Peter Dawson probably thought that was a good idea.
Hope Gallacher wins, might even turn it on!

Justice served then, Mac?
Big win for Gallacher, should get him into the Top 40, and a pretty much guaranteed ticket to Augusta and Pinehurst.
Great promise for the three podium finishers though, Grillo, Wattel and Koepka.

Re: Dubai Desert Classic
Mac - left hand below reminds me of a lad playing in Brit Am a few years ago. Pretty sure he was a Scot, and got semi final place. He played every shot that way. Amazing!

Re: Dubai Desert Classic
Yes thought so. John Gallagher from Edinburgh, now a pro, but reached final of Brit Am having beaten Lloyd Saltman in semi. Still plays cross handed. Who's going to give that a go?

Re: Dubai Desert Classic
Long-time successful American pro, especially on the Senior Tour, played cross-handed, as does web.commer Josh Broadaway.
Think the blimp once known as Chris Couch chips cross-handed.
Most of us probably wouldn't be able to hit the ball half the time!

I think its the 4th hole at Augusta where they do the same. Its a par 3 which is very tough to get at so the tactic is to hit the stand on the left, get a free drop which is as good as almost any approach and hope to get up and down. Particularly on Sunday with the pin where they put it. This is what Mickleson tried to do a couple of years ago and came unstuck as it ricocheted off the stand and into the trees and he had to play it which led to a double or triple.

Had 10 quid on Gallacher e/w at 40/1... (together with Quiros, Bjorn and Sterne ). This week I think I'll go full Saffer: Coetzee, Fichardt and Aiken, maybe T. Van der Walt. Although Schwartzel should be the massive favorite he's only 3/1.

Hi Peeps Been at work so no sport allowed by our It geeks.Tried to retire but the pay was poor.
Nice work from Webster and RRock. Both very capable but probably about how much they want to be at the top level now.Mid thirties shows a bit of attitude no sign of benefits street!
Hope all are well and will try to post a bit more.
