Ortiz vs Collazo Spoiler Empty Ortiz vs Collazo Spoiler

Post by Valero's Conscience Fri 31 Jan - 7:01

Ortiz is stopped in the 2nd round!

Surely over for Victor now, if he can't beat Collazo then he's done at the top level.

Shame as I always thought he was much better than he shows but time and time again (save for the Berto) fight) he disappoints.

Congratulations to Collazo who has been around for a long time and can hopefully get a few bigger fights and paychecks after this.

His ego received one too many massages by Oscar when he was coming through.

He must have thought it was going to be easy.

At least he got a shot at the top, he's been world champ.

I said on the podcast I felt this was up for grabs. I just found it hard to see Ortiz winning after his previous times of throwing everything away.

I doubt he will even fight again after this

Ortiz will definitely fight again. One of the lucky fighters who will always get decent money offers because he is a name and appeals to those american mexicano's.

He got caught with a beauty of a shot which would have rendered a fair few fighters of the senses. Held his own before that but looked very rusty of his lay off.

I thought he looked awful.

This was Collazos last big fight and Ortiz thought all he had to do was turn up. Shouting about a Floyd rematch showed he wasn't focused on this fight 100% and it cost him big time.

It was his 4th fight in nearly 3 years. I reckon this will knock the confidence clean out of him.

Agreed, doubt he has the heart for it but is only 27 (birthday today) and would be hard to turn down the paychecks.

I'll fondly remember him for him cringing "I'm like a tree" quote in the Mayweather build-up!

What a bum.

Any man that gets in the ring to box is brave, but Christ, Ortiz has failed almost as many gut-checks as Audley Harrison once he's in there!

So disappointed in Victor Ortiz. He's been one of my favourite boxers but he continually lets everyone down.

I can finally see why he and Rios never saw eye to eye.

Ortiz is vastly more skilled than Rios, but whereas Rios would leave it all in the ring, Ortiz has been found willing to look for the easy way out.

He quit against Maidana, had be continued he probably would've won that fight.

Lost his brain against Mayweather, basically quit in that fight as well.

Quit against Lopez, yeah the jaw was smashed but he was easily winning that fight.

He should gotten up from the Collazo knockdown.

Ortiz should retire now. Mexicans are considered warriors, he certainly isn't a warrior.

Collazo has a better resume at welterweight than a lot of the Al Haymon guys with the big fanfare. Great to see a real pro get his just dues (he was robbed against Hatton a few years back).

Maybe for his next fight he'll receive an ALL ACCESS, P4P, ONE OF THE BEST FIGHTERS IN THE WORLD type build up?

Only watched the second round. Collozo was seriously up for the fight and looked very dialed in and quick. Sweet punch for the KO, Ortiz didn't see it coming.

I agree with others that Ortiz looked like he could have got up. He was on his knees at all times not flat on the canvas. When he got the hard shot he turned his back, ran away and dropped to the canvas to avoid any more punches. His mindset looks all wrong.

Was at that Hatton fight and Callozo from where I was sitting was clearly on top in the second half of the fight. We were sure Hatton had lost and were surprised with the verdict.

Thought his fight against Berto was an excellent one and he was very brave....

He earned a lot of money against Floyd the p4p number 1 and top 10 ATG......and he always struck me as a guy who treated Boxing as a means to an end a bit like Tony Galento, Buddy Baer and Johnny Paychek types did..

Although in fairness he was world class and several leagues above..........

Wish the kid well..............Had a decent career..

I picked Collazo to win. Liked his chances but loved his body language at the weigh in. He was only 6-4, though and couldn't get a spread bet. I figured he'd win on points but there was a big risk Ortiz would get a gift decision.

Didn't see that knockout coming.

Stopped by Maidana, Lopez and now Collazo and could only draw with Juiceman LP. One top win on his record was to this decade's Lacy.

If that's world class then pretty much anything/one is.

Ortiz never seems bothered by losing so he will stick around a while collecting paychecks and being a stepping stone.

As an ex "word champion" he will always be a marketed name for someones record.

Post by 88Chris05 Fri 31 Jan - 11:58

Even allowing for Ortiz's erratic nature, I was still surprised by this.

It was a short fight but I think there were definite signs (again) that Ortiz's heart just isn't in it anymore. Looked like he was just praying he could make it a short night by throwing little but power shots. No jabbing or setting anything up, like he wasn't even thinking. Reckon he could have beaten that count (and he at least would have then had a minute rest as there was no time left in the round) but if as I suspect he didn't really want to be there, then you can see why he stayed down.

His win over Berto suggested he has real talent and potential, but every other performance he's mustered in a 'big' fight suggests the opposite. In relative terms he's getting a hint of Audley syndrome.

Ortiz should not get stick for quitting against Lopez. He had a badly broken jaw and just because he's a boxer doesn't mean he has to continue. Sure a few boxers have continued but that should not be used as the rule.

I'm sure all of us would leave work if we broke our jaw let alone stay in a ring and continued to be punched on it!

His other questionable performances are open for debate but the Lopez fight should be excluded. I never see Vitali ridiculed for quitting on his stool for tearing his rotator cuff.

I mean Vitali doesn't appear to get continued stick which follows his career. Anyway Ortiz obviously has am issue and was switched on for one big fight against Ortiz which got him the title and the Floyd fight so he'll always be grateful for that.

Mate thats why I was hesitant to predict him winning the other night when we spoke. The lay off, fame on reality TV and his past frame of mind just gave me a feeling that Collazo would have more on his side (last throw of the dice, fighting in Brooklyn etc).

I don't think he has it in him to forge a serious run anymore. He blew the chance against Floyd sticking the head in and then again against Lopez in what was viewed as a warm up at the time until he fought Canelo.

If he can't get past the likes of Collazo who no disrespect to him, is really in the twilight of his career, then how is he going to cope with an up and coming fighter who has yet to taste major success.

His big night was against Berto and he did well to come through that sixth round. But that is the only time he has faced a gut check in a positive manner.

I seen on Twitter that Oscar has advised him to retire. Seems like a sensible thing to do.

His nationality has nothing to do with it Truss. Its a bit of a stereotype to brand all Mexicans "warriors". But any fighter who gets hyped then blows it will always get abuse regardless where they are from.

Ortiz was hyped as the next Oscar so he was easy prey. If he wasn't then it probably wouldnt have been as bad.

Watch what happens to Luke Campbell if he ever quits when things get tough. He will get slaughtered due to Hearn calling him the British Oscar De La Hoya.
