Cameron Norrie
Anyone know anything about this young British player? He’s doing very well in the latest Australian Challenger having come through qualifying then taken out the no.6 seed Matt Reid who, apparently, won a Challenger last week

The ITF site says 18 years old, left handed with a double-handed backhand (http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/players/player/profile.aspx?playerid=100148768) and favourite surface is hard. Singles ranking was just inside the top 1000 at the end of 2013.

Re: Cameron Norrie
Cameron is 17 and world junior no. 10, making him the new GB no. 1 in the ITF 18U rankings, usurping Luke Bambridge, whomr he beat in the Final of the G1 event in Manila in March (a month in which he got all of his best 3 points hauls!) to reach the junior top 10. He will also have an ATP ranking for the first time on Monday after qualifying and reaching the QFs in Bournemouth last week. He went out to Coric in Edinburgh qualies this week but did manage to take a set off him.
Cameron is a left-hander, born in South Africa (in Johannesburg in fact, just like Kyle Edmund) but moved to New Zealand (the country he has just switched from) when he was young.
The reason he has managed to switch much faster than JoKo is that his father is Scottish. In addition, his mother, while South African (according to Luke), was born in Wales.

It was taken from a quote by "Andy Murray" and wasn't dated!

Re: Cameron Norrie
Actually he qualified for the Aus Challenger this week and has also knocked out a seed in the main draw; impressive stuff from a 17 year old!

They both have an illustrious South African, Federer, to look up to, or perhaps Wayne Ferreira or Frew McMillan.

One South African departs England (KP) another comes in to replace him ... it seems fair and anyone who suggests otherwise is just a plain boer.kingraf wrote:Geez another South African defecting... Oh well... Can't say we haven't done our bit for her majesty and the empire.

Breaking news! Another plucky young Brit in considering defecting to the United States (The weather is miserable here especially in the part of Britain he hails from). I suppose those British tennis fans who choose who to support for such arbitrary reasons will now be able to fully back this plucky young ex South African, ex new Zealander in his place even if he is successful enough to take up permanent residency in Monaco (If he does this his heart will still belong to Britain).
