The true champ is.....
Dont know much about history,
dont know much biology,
dont know much about the French I took,
but following on from Truss' article about 1 belt per division, I would like to know who you would pick for the recognised weights.
The simple rule for selection is that you have to currently hold a belt in the division you are choosing your boxer from.
(ie you cant pick Manny for every weight division D4 )
so lets hear who you think the champs are......

Re: The true champ is.....
I'm going to ignore junior weights which I think are a waste of time
Heavyweight: Vitali Klitschko
Light Heavyweight: Carl Froch
Middleweight: Sergio Martinez
Welterweight: Manny Pacquiao
Lightweight: Juan Manuel Marquez
Featherweight: Yuriokis Gamboa
Bantamweight: Anselmo Moreno
Flyweight: Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
Which only goes to show the overall sparsity of talent around at the current time

Didn't Martinez get stripped of his titles for no reason or was it just one of them?

I thought one was stripped because he had the same belt at MW, and the other one...I dunno. Pick a reason. Make one up.

D4 - Pirog ahead of Martinez? Seems a bit strange to me. Pirog's a good boxer but has hardly achieved anything like the same level of victory.

My list is pretty similar to D4s except I'd switch in Martinez ahead of Pirog.

Martinez is not a title holder though and that was one of the OPs rules.
Neither is Fana now, so might have to replace him with Burns.

I'd have had Burns ahead of Fana, didn't notice that on your list. Wasn't sure about Martinez's status with belts, but since you've cleared that up...no idea who I would really pick from that division. I'd imagine we are not counting The Ring belt for this lists purposes then?

Re: The true champ is.....
Similar list to most. I'd have Ward as opposed to Froch as SMW and Bradley at LWW.

The OP said belt not title. maybe we could get some clarification on it.

Isn't Martinez Ring champ? Plus, I thought he'd been 'upgraded' to family size megabucket humongo-champ?

Re: The true champ is.....
His last fight was apparently for the 'vacant diamond WBC MW title', despite the fight previously Martinez was defending the regular WBC MW title. Which he won from Pavlik the fight before THAT. Farce.

The ring magazine belt is recognized by the IBHOF as a fully legitimate world title just to clarify

There is no way you can have Pirog over Martinez; that is utter guff.

It beggars belief until you read the name.
