CL Last 16
First topic message reminder :
Some cracking games this week, Barca/City and Bayern/Arsenal. Can't see past Bayern and Barca wins. Pellegrini has said he'll attack Barca and I say do so at your peril. This may not be the Barca side from 2010-2012 but its still a very very good side with players in form currently, namely Fabregas, Sanchez and with a returning Messi back in the goals. There's a chance that if they go in with two strikers that they could get torn to pieces. I think against Barca you have to play a 5 man midfield. They keep the ball too well and will just pass their way through you.

Van Persie just got clattered by the keeper. Seems very much out of it.
Was a good flick from the Olympiakos forward for the goal.

In a season of lows, this would be the biggest. Sunderland was a bit of a smash and grab, United have been outclassed completely today

Betting scam or someone really wants rid of their manager.... to be perfectly blunt
Seriously, I don't watch football that much but that team (Manchester) isn't even trying. There is no way any manager could interpret that as his team trying to win.

I think this performance has been so bad that the only way to look at it is that - a really awful display. Utd have played pretty well in the CL this season so I don't think it's Moyes fault in terms of inexperience or tactics. The team's played crap, except Evra who's looked decent.

This loss wont go down well.
Its not even the away loss, its the way they are playing. Its championship football. The first touches from the players bar rooney are just disgusting- they cant string 3 passes together

Some of these Man United players look as if they don't care knowing full well they won't be there next season. RVP shot was so nonchalant he may as well have been lying down.

Re: CL Last 16
One of the worst utd performances I have ever seen. Just dire. We're always going to miss Mata and Januzaj (why wasn't he playing) but the whole approach to the game was terrible.
No pressure on the man in possession, no zip to the passing, lack of movement and fight. Just awful. Allot of those players on the pitch tonight will hopefully not be at the club next season.
I've defended Moyes all season and at the end of the day, the squad he's inherited is over the hill with other players simply not up to the standard. But his tactics and approach to the game tonight was all wrong. I do hope we see improvement from him next season otherwise I would not stick with him much longer.

City and Arsenal were unlucky against great teams.
United were completely outplayed by a mediocre side.
Tough to blame Moyes too much IMO, it's been obvious that Uniteds CM has been poor for years, and long term replacements for Vidic, Rio and Evra were neglected.

Re: CL Last 16
Agree GSC but Moyes can be blamed for the tactics we adopted. There was no pressing or zip to our passing, at halt time fergie was known for ripping into the players and getting a reaction out of them. The reaction we needed came in the 78th minute onwards. Too late i'm afraid.
Overall the team is pretty average.
De Gea - Class act, one of our few very good players
Smalling - Hit and miss, still young but needs to step up
Rio - Over the hill
Vidic - Past it
Evra - Past it
Cleverly - Not good enough
Carrick - Squad player next year
Valencia - Not good enough
Young - Not good enough
Rooney - Our other brilliant player
RVP - Usually excellent, off night tonight
Realistically i'd keep 5 players from this 11 next season. Big spending needed in the summer which should have come around 2010 and possibly before!

There is a suspicion that Moyes is perhaps happier as a big fish in a small pond, but ultimately he can't play for the players.
Cleverley woefully out of his depth. Strange Moyes seems to have frozen out Fellaini after he had a slow start at Everton

Seems to have been a very much "win now" mentality at Utd recently and the aftermath is happening now. Kinda what I expect to happen with Denver when Manning goes or New England when Brady goes

Re: CL Last 16
Worst I think I've seen United play all season.
Low workrate, no working off the ball..it was just static. The game passed them by. The Greek side weren't all that, but United made them look all that.
Until the last ten minutes, there was nothing offered by United. Welbeck should have come on earlier; his workrate was much in need by the English champions. Where was the movement? Where was the running?
Devoid of confidence, bereft of energy, lacking in ideas, and totally weak.
Nice goal by Campbell though - he'll be lining up against England this summer, so I'm glad he's got that out of his system!

He hasn't frozen him out, hes been out for months and had his first game back vs Crystal Palace at the weekend and was one of our best players. Would have been too risky to bring him back for a CL game away from home, although i'm sure he would have done better than Cleverly!!

This team don't have the heart Duty.
I suspect like others that they are resigned to the fact they will play somewhere else next season.
Do they look like a team fighting for their jobs?

This is where Moyes needs to come in for some flack, he sets the side out and tells them how to approach it. He clearly did not instruct his players to chase down Olympiakos when in possession. Maybe he slightly underestimated them due to the good win over Palace. Also, if hes rested Januzaj despite utd not playing for another 11 days then that is a shocker of a decision!!!
