Ireland seek another big scalp.
Who cares?
Great entertainment for some with the trampolinists, dancing girls, huge hits, pyrotechnics and the MONEY.
MONEY.
Salvation of cricket?
MONEY.
But it gets the youngsters involved and gives weak teams a 30-70 a chance against the bigger boys.
MONEY.
If it brings in new crowds to cricket, it must be a good thing.
MONEY.
Sri Lanka has just agreed, it is about MONEY.
But? We all forget about T20 after 5 minutes, which is my point.
Good for the teams regarding money, development and the odd five minute of fame but Poopie for the mind and the purist.
Again who cares about T20? Apart from the money men!
But sport is entertainment and entertainment is business i hear.
It will fade i hope and a new gimmick will appear.

Re: Ireland seek another big scalp.
These cricket "purists" really need to get over themselves and take t20 cricket for what it is...a way of spreading the game to people who would otherwise have no interest in it. It also allows nations like Ireland be competitive in matches.
I watched Ireland in the 2007 world cup and since then I have been watching all forms of cricket.
7s rugby is pretty much the same idea but I don't see rugby "purists" complaining about it we take it for what it is... a way of spreading the game.

That's different though.

Re: Ireland seek another big scalp.
I don't understand why so many people underestimate the role of T20 cricket. T20 cricket is the most played version of the game. I have only ever player T20 cricker whether it be at school or the local league in the summer.
This was a great win for Ireland and it is good so see smaller nations getting 'series' against the bigger nations. I am sure the OP would rather just five or six nations play cricket.
T20 is the future of the sport whether people like it or not just look at the IPL. For me the ECB, county cricket and the ICC are years behind.

Re: Ireland seek another big scalp.
I am not sure about this. I would put T20 cricket on par with Sunday league football. Rugby 7s is more on par with 5-a-side football.LeinsterFan4life wrote:7s rugby is pretty much the same idea but I don't see rugby "purists" complaining about it we take it for what it is... a way of spreading the game.
My local town has two, maybe three cricket teams that play one/ two day cricket but has about four/ five leagues of 10/12 teams that play T20 cricket in the summer on Wednesday night's. Ok first class T20 may have more razzamataz but it is still 11-a-side 20 overs cricket that I suggest in the most played form of the game.

Re: Ireland seek another big scalp.
Good on Ireland. Well done!
I always feel warm and fuzzy when they take a big scalp.
I recently saw a repeat of their win over Pakistan at the 2007 WC. What a fabulous day that was!
I wish them all the luck in whatever form of cricket they play and I would love to see them shoot up the rankings.
The game needs more players of their character and mercurial capabilities in the international spotlight.
Oh... and keep your greedy eyes of their players England... and make your own.
Why not be fair sports for once and let them thrive in their own right?

Well done Ireland, I thought the way they celebrated this told a lot. Nothing over the top, almost like it'd had become the norm

Well done Ireland!. Very happy to see them do well. Hope they get to play test cricket sooner rather than later. And keep the likes of George Dockrell safe. The Chief Poach is about to become the Chief Coach.......!

From heros to zeros.
Ireland not able to chase down the WI's poor score of 96 ending up on 85/8.
Thats T20.

That was an absolute horror of a pitch.
God I hope the ODI's ain't played on it. Would be easier to stick pins in your eyes

West that victory against England was in an ODI which means it doesn't count... Well at least according to "purists" test cricket is the only cricket!
