Hatton Promotions Statement On Martin Murray
Hatton Promotions has taken the decision to allow Martin Murray's contract to expire.
This means the company will no longer financially invest further in Martin's career following the St Helens boxer's unwillingness to commit to opportunities negotiated on his behalf.
Offers for world title fights with Gennady Golovkin and Felix Sturm have been on the table for a number of weeks, but Murray has decided to hold off signing any agreements.
Neither of these offers will be available indefinitely, with Sturm now looking at alternative opponents and Golovkin only likely to appear in Europe once more before pressing forwards with his career in the United States.
31-year-old Murray and Hatton Promotions have historically enjoyed a healthy and successful relationship. However, things have been strained since Martin decided to change his management in 2013.
In the time that Martin has been with the promotional company, Ricky Hatton worked tirelessly to get him the best opportunities available – an incredible feat considering Martin is unable to box in the US.
When Martin was signed in 2009, he'd never boxed beyond eight rounds and had largely featured non-televised shows.
Since then he has won the British and Commonwealth crowns and boxed for two world titles.
In addition to the fights secured for him against Sturm and Sergio Martinez, fights have been brokered with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Gennady Golovkin and Jarrod Fletcher only for Martin to reject the opportunities or later pull out.
Hatton Promotions concedes there has been difficulties which have left Martin frustrated, such as the collapse of a December 2013 contest with Garth Wood and the bout with Fletcher not getting a World Title sanction. However, the reason for that falling through was beyond the control of all parties concerned.
In the circumstances, Hatton Promotions believe that the fights and purses offered and secured cannot be bettered and it has decided it is time for the parties to move in their separate directions.
Ricky Hatton said: "We got Martin a British title, a Commonwealth title and two world title shots. We secured him two further world title shots in the past few weeks and all he had to do was make up his mind which one he wanted.
"He's had six world title fights offered to him in the last two years. I don't think anyone's had more than that.
"To say I'm disappointed is an understatement, but that's the game."

True Truss, but Ricky got Murray in some goof scraps with Sturm, Martinez etc. Potential world title fight against Sturm again or Golovkin and he rejects it. Shame really.
Going to Hearn, if he does, will probably generate more money....but cant see his career progressing.
i mean look at Scott Quigg. Wins a world title via a draw against a no name and defends against a tomato can....now he is fighting another can.
Oh, and he is top dog, not Rigo.
Roll on Murray picking up a strap within 18 months having defeated nobody, and being proclaimed as a laughing stock.

Is Murray that good? Not in Froch's or Groves' leagues for my money.
Maybe Murray wanted a soft opponent with a belt.

Salinas is hardly a no name, says more about your knowledge than anything unfortunately MM8.

If true, that is a very strong statement from Hatton Promotions, verging on being unprofessional. But then, if it is true it may be just frustration talking.
Looks like this could be the beginning of the end for Murray, if true.
Maybe Murray did want some softer fights but he must have fancied a rematch against Sturm, surely?

To be fair he has been stagnating in Hattons stable which is in a dire spot.
This could spell the end for Hatton Promotions rather than Murray's career

Sorry Hammer, I've not scoured box rec to see his record, bit if memory serves, he was ranked outside the top 20 at the weight, and the only "good" note was he was undefeated......a bit like a certain Jewish boxer who was also very very good....and then he got wiped out by khan in 60 seconds....Salita? Quigg has hardly fought top notch opposition. Would love to see him in with Martinez as opposed to the next clown Hearn flies in.

Re: Hatton Promotions Statement On Martin Murray
Lets just get loads of undefeated fighters in to the UK to fight our "world" champions.......and then play on the fact that:
"an excellent amateur who has never fought out his bedroom and he has so far climbed within the top 50 of the world.....he is undefeated.....should be a tough tough fight"
blah blah blah.

I don't think anybody with his amateur pedigree is a nobody frankly and it does help to try and do a bit of research before you do your usual of labelling everyone either a nobody or a tomato can. You do realise also that you can't fight for a vacant title against somebody outside the top ten in that governing bodies rankings right?mobilemaster8 wrote:Sorry Hammer, I've not scoured box rec to see his record, bit if memory serves, he was ranked outside the top 20 at the weight, and the only "good" note was he was undefeated......a bit like a certain Jewish boxer who was also very very good....and then he got wiped out by khan in 60 seconds....Salita? Re: Hatton Promotions Statement On Martin Murray
Research?
Why cant he fight a genuine contender and not some wishy washy "ranking" for an easy night....
Nonito Donaire
Leo Santa Cruz
Fernando Montiel
Vic Darchinyan
Kiko Martinez
Wilfredo Vasquez Jr.
Victor Terrazaz
Christian Mijares
Carl Frampton
Or maybe Rigo, the actual champ.
at least the guys above are fighting each other.
Rigo vs Donaire
Martinez vs Frampton
Donaire vs Vic twice
Etc etc etc.....its frankly a joke that Salinas is rated so highly by the WBA but nobody else. Tell you what hammer, tell me why he should have fought for the title?
The WBA are a laughing stock. I mean, A Force fought for a bloody title lol

Re: Hatton Promotions Statement On Martin Murray
Frampton fighting Martinez is hardly any different to Quigg fighting Munroe now is it?
It's interesting that you mention Mijares, maybe look into it a bit and find out why that's interesting. It's easy to throw out a list of names but how many of them are available and of those who would want the fight?

Not many people left for old ricky to fall out with. I can understand his frustration with murray but a more professional statement is probably required.

Re: Hatton Promotions Statement On Martin Murray
I don't know maybe the fact Munroe beat him twice as well as Terrazaz who is also on your list, he might be a world champion but he's from being one of the top super bantamweights.
