Alvarez v Angulo
First topic message reminder :
Potential war on the cards between the two Mexicans, and one I respect Alvarez for taking. So what will happen?
Alvarez has good fundamentals and can counter punch effectively, which is exactly what you want against El Perro. However there's no denying Lara's a far quicker backfoot boxer than Alvarez, and he was caught solidly twice. Angulo usually only needs one chance.
Alvarez, although excellent in my opinion, has the obvious weakness of poor workrate. This is ok against Trout, who can't effectively force the action, but Angulo will be in his face for three minutes a round.
Maybe I'm bias because I like El Perro and he sports an excellent beard. He's one of those sensitive tough guys and it's a nice clash between the pitbull and the hyped pretty boy.
Mano a mano, who ya got?

Getting paid $850k isn't buttons, he's getting more than everyone else on the card combined for a non title fight.
The bottom line Haz is that Angulo has agreed to it just like Lalonde agreed to Leonards demands or how Berg agreed to Canzoneris demands.

It is next to what Alvarez is being paid. Angulo had no choice. What should he have done? Walked away from a career high payday?
Indefensible abuse of status and wealth and different entirely from someone signing a contract for a catch weight bout.

Haz you just don't like him that much is obvious hence your transparent criticism, it's 2014.

That has jack to do with it - the sheer notion is abhorrent regardless the perpetrator.

You're a troll and little more. I'm not sure why you post here - you offer little other than as the house contrarian who'd argue black was white if it afforded him some attention.

Let's keep it civil.
Either way, whatever your opinion of Canelo, can't think Angulo would demand that pound of flesh in return for 100 large. I wouldn't, and in fact, neither would anyone on here.

Go and find someone to give you a hug (even if you have to pay for it again). Might stop you trolling all day.

Doesn't excuse Alvarez's actions, though. What's next? The more established guy gets to weigh in heavier if he takes a smaller purse split?

Re: Alvarez v Angulo
All sorts of ways to gain an advantage....Turning the heat up in the arena a la Mcguigan-Taylor when you want to take the legs of a runner...Willard-Old Johnson in 120 degree heat...
Size of the ring accomodated to suit the home fighter...The ropes being loosened...and deliberately giving a tough opponent short notice of the fight..
Don't like all this catchweight stuff but I don't think it's ever changed a result..

Over dieting/ dehydrating has changed fights in fairness. Look at Oscar v Manny.
That seems to be why Salido didn't bother last week.
With Alverez I get the feeling he couldn't be bothered. Too posh to push.

Re: Alvarez v Angulo
Let's be fair, he made Mayweathers weight stipulation, why couldn't he make 154 here. From watching fighters struggling to make, the last pound is the hardest so I can't help but seeing it as a cop out. Angulo wants to be paid so of course he's going to take the money. He's done all the promo and the long camp etc. But this is obviously benefits Alavrez. I hope Angulo pulls this off, he's came across well in the access all areas doc.

Re: Alvarez v Angulo
Alvarez on 1.25M, Angulo on 850,000, not too big a difference. The card as a PPV card is a bit of a farce at this stage, between missing weight and missing fights.
Alvarez needs a whole new weight class for himself to keep the ginger hype machine on track, lightish middleweight, too big to make 154lbs not good enough to compete at 160lb.

Don't worry Canelo will be selling Tacos for the rest of his life after El Perro knocks his head off...jimdig wrote:Alvarez on 1.25M, Angulo on 850,000, not too big a difference. The card as a PPV card is a bit of a farce at this stage, between missing weight and missing fights.

Ha, He looks more in danger of eating taco's, He looks like Ricky Hatton's little brother, (The Hatton's must have swapped him for Matthew).
I do him an injustice, I think he'd do fine in a middleweight division, without GGG. I'd like to see him with Quillin, I think it'd be a good contest.

Canelo's too big for 154 and too small for 160

Alvarez doesn't punch from the legs, he throw lots of arm punches. It's enough for him to hurt boxers at light middle, but the big middles like Murray, Quillin etc, he will struggle to keep off him.

difference is I'm young and virile and could most likely duff Dave up in a fight that doesn't include his serial killer tricks of the trade.

He also had a 80/20 split in ppv money with GBP though

Looks like we are going to have to get the tacos from Angulo now.

Wrong twice in the same post, though that's far from a record for you.
Criticised his performance (how could you not, it was awful) and lauded Floyd's. That is all.
