Father and son
On reading that Zidane's son is making it through the ranks at Real Madrid, I was wondering what were the most successful father and son careers? The Cruyffs, the Lampards, the Schmeichels, the Cloughs...?

Re: Father and son
Rivaldo currently plays for the same team as his son in Brazil, not overly successful but it's great to see them on the same pitch.
Not sure if anyone saw this but Rivaldo is the chairman of a club called Migi Mirim, he sacked their manager using Instagram, when he got criticised for doing it he replied; "I already told him he was sacked, he didn't care, he went said his goodbyes and pee'd off"

Gus Poyet son plays for Charlton.
What about the Wright-Phillips clan? Is Bradley in New York these days?

Tom Ince could well become successful.

The Bruces?!
Although i think its fair to say if Steve had never become a manager its unlikely Alex would ever have made it.

Re: Father and son
I would say the Schmeichels. Obviously you wont need reminding of the career of Peter, and Kasper is currently number 1 for the Championship leaders (Leicester City ). IMO he is by far the best goalkeeper outside the Premier League and after his performance against England at Wembley, he should be Denmarks number 1.

Re: Father and son
The Maldinis will take some beating, both full internationals for Italy as well as being captains of Ac Milan in European cup winning seasons.

The Cruyff's are up there. Jordi was an international, and obviously Johan was one the best platers ever.

I hadn’t seen much of Kasper since he went to Notts County but his performance against England was an eye opener. He has got alot more presence about him now and it was like watching his dad back in the day. Peter Schmeichel's great attribute was his one on one technique. He was always in a good position, he hardly ever went to ground and he used to make himself as big and imposing as possible. Kasper displayed this technique on a few occasions against England. Considering his age, I think he has got a bright future ahead of him. I can see him at a big English/European club soon.

Agree with this. The Maldini's all day long. Both established internationals who played at World Cups, both captained Milan and won trophies. In almost all the other cases, you couldn't really argue that both father and son were top quality players.
Apparently Paolo's two sons are both in the Milan youth ranks, too.

Re: Father and son
I'm not too bothered about who is and isn't the "most successful" because at the end of the day it's all a matter of opinion, but there are a lot of father / son pairings that are worth noting, if only as a matter of fan interest.
Kieth Peacock's son Gavin played for Newcastle Utd and Chelsea (amongst other clubs) during his career.
Dad Kieth played more than 500 games for Charlton Athletic and is now part of the coaching set up at the Valley. He was the first player ever in English football to come onto the field as a substitute.
Gavin was signed by Harry Redknapp at Bournemouth, Jim Smith at Newcastle and Glenn Hoddle at Chelsea so he was pretty well rated as a player. He was in Newcastle's FA Cup Final team against Manchester United.
He played several times at the Valley, against his dad's former club and it was there that a voice in the crowd shouted out "Oi Peacock, you're not as good as your old man" to which another voice in the crowd replied "He's not as good as MY old man".
After retiring from football he moved to Canada and became a Methodist minister.

Re: Father and son
How about grandfather, father, son. Marcus Alonso, the Sunderland left back (also played one game for Real Madrid),his Dad played for Barca and Spain and his grandpa played for Real Madrid and was also a full international.
Can't see Alonso winning any full caps but he's not a bad player and that's some family pedigree.

Re: Father and son
Charltons both WC winners;
Not to mention the exploits of their uncles.
I love the three-generation book about the Summerbees.
Not sure I'd enjoy the Hateleys quite so much.
