Vazquez vs Mitchell on Froch-Groves II undercard?
It's been reported Eddie Hearn has contacted Vazquez's promoter about a showdown on the Froch-Groves PPV.
Obviously Mitchell needs to win his tune up bout first.
But is he really ready to face the lightweight king?
Vazquez is pretty tall and very awkward and hard to hit. If he ever fights Abril, check the result on the internet, or you might get bored...
For me Vazquez is a few notches above Mitchell and wins by a wide UD.

Think Mitchell has missed the boat.....................
But London boy on London bill makes sense..
Thought he'd beat Katsidis and Burns with his talent.........
Vazquez has a little too much for him.......BUT Vazquez has to make sure he wins by at least four rounds......
Agree with the op can't see a stoppage..
Vazquez by closer than it should be decision........

Don't see Vasquez having too much trouble with Mitchell, he's simply a level or two above.

I actually don't think Vazquez is ANYWHERE near as good as what he's made out to be to be honest.
Crawford would do a job on him too by my reckoning.

Agree, but I still think he's too much for a 'slightly above average' Mitchell.
Would back Mikey Garcia to come up and wipe the floor with him with ease, also.
The only interesting angle is that he was dropped by and laboured to a SD against a guy Mitchell handled well in one of his more accomplished performances to date - Breidis Prescott.

Got to ask, what top level boxer has Vasquez ever beaten to be regarded so highly?

Aye, Gerry is definitely doing his best to make Vazquez a cult favourite on here!
After seeing Vazquez on the Pacquiao-Marquez IV undercard I remember thinking (and posting it on here) that he'd make a good opponent for Burns in a possible unification match up, and that the two of them were pretty evenly matched. Was chuffed for Burns when it was announced, but obviously it never came off.
In the meantime, Burns has now become a bum and Vazquez has been elevated to divisional kingpin, apparently!
I like Vazquez and think he's a good fighter, but right now he's not above a fight against someone like Mitchell, even if he'd be favoured to win. Need to see a bit more from Vazquez before I get on the ol' hype train with Gerry and Hammer is right in pointing out that his opposition as champion hasn't been stellar, although I have thought for a while now that Shafikov was one of the better European title holders in the past couple of years and it seems that Vazquez dealt with him pretty well (haven't seen the fight yet, myself).

He beat Shafikov about as well as Burns would really, Shafikov isn't any great shakes.

I found the way he so easily shut down Mercito Gesta fairly impressive, but Gesta's reputation has come mainly from gym stories. Broner was trying to start a rivalry with him a bit ago!

Re: Vazquez vs Mitchell on Froch-Groves II undercard?
I'm finding it rather laughable that Vazquez's credentials are still being questioned.
Vazquez is the number 1 ranked lightweight as rated by Boxrec and Ring magazine.
Vazquez has beaten everyone put in front of him at lightweight. He can't fight fighters that didn't want to fight him eg Rios or Broner.
As for Burns. Who's he ever beaten at lightweight? Katsidis? When was he world class? Katsidis lost all of his big fights. Losses to J.M Marquez, Casamayor, J. Diaz and Guerrero. Yet he is seen as Burns' best win at lightweight.

Says it all then doesn't it Gerry when said Katsidis is a better win than anything Vasquez has. Burns has three legitimate wins over ranked lightweights compared to one (Prescott) for Vasquez. The recent form of Burns has changed the outlook a bit but there wasn't much between them.

You do know how to undermine yourself/your arguments, don't you?
Also, the Ring doesn't have him as it's champ, which suggests he's 'technically' ranked highest but not considered worthy of the proper Ring accolade.

Crawford is the best thing in the division. He has that minimal movement conservation of energy ability while also being super slick and a switch hitter. He's physically strong too. He's going to be hard to beat. At the end of the Burns fight Crawford looked like he could easily box another 10 rounds.

Probably because Burns didn't cause him any issues.
