Christopher Daniels Discusses Leaving TNA and More
Christopher Daniels spoke with Figure Four Daily about a variety of topics. Below are the highlights:
What led to his departure from TNA:
"I always found it funny when I heard reports that I was one of the higher paid guys on the roster. I‘d look at my paycheck and I never thought I was one of the higher paid guys. Essentially my contract was one of those where you only made a lot of money if you worked a lot, and I certainly wasn't working as much near the end of my contract as I was a year ago. I don't think that financial reasons were the reason I wasn't renewed. I don't know if they thought our act was tired or they wanted to go in a different direction. I'm not sure why that's the case, especially when I felt like there was a simple and great program in the works between us and Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, but apparently the guys on the creative team didn't have the same desire to see that program take place."
If he saw his departure coming:
"I was as surprised as everybody, or maybe I was more surprised than everybody because I didn't think it would happen. I had heard the internet rumors as early as January and I was like, 'This can't be true. How is this gonna be?' But it happened and they made the decision to not keep me around, so there you have it."
If Bad Influence had any creative input in their storylines:
"We pitched ideas about being back in the thick of things for the tag titles, and we pitched ideas about getting away from the tag situation because it seemed like they didn't want us in that position. But no one ever really got back to us about any of the ideas that we ever pitched. Every once in a while we would hear, 'Oh, we’re going in a different direction.' So that was the majority of it. Most of the stuff that we did was given to us and we just tried to make it our own as much as we could. I wrote one idea about the Television Title involving myself and Frankie, and the response that I got back was: 'It's long, but we’re going in a different direction.' There were two things wrong with that, I suppose. It was the wrong direction and it was in-depth. I thought it was simple enough, but I don’t know."
His thoughts on reports of low morale in the TNA locker room:
"I sometimes wonder... the tendency for anybody, especially when you’re with friends and you’re in the trenches, is to laugh at the stuff that you interpret as ridiculous or silly, and to grouch about the things that you interpret as not being good. That to me isn't morale, that’s just like getting through the day. As bad as anything ever got, if we were depressed or mad or down in the dumps, there was never a feeling like, 'Well, let’s storm the castle and kill the king.' It was just, you know, haha let’s get through the day and still try to put out the best product that we could and take this vision that these guys are putting in front of us and put that on the television show. So, to me, morale was fine. None of us were on suicide watch or anything. It’s just what it was. Whatever positive or negative, whether it's ratings or house show attendance or pay-per-view buys or whatever, it was never so bad that we were all looking to drink bleach or anything. We grouched about the things that were silly and we were high-fiving ourselves over stuff that we were happy about, whether it was matches or upcoming programs or whatnot."
His future in the wrestling business:
"At this point, I'm just happy to continue wrestling. I want to push myself to wrestle at the best level that I can, while I can. I'm fully aware that I'm closer to the end of my career than the beginning. I just don't want to waste time sitting at home when I could be out there wrestling someone. Whatever happens in the next couple of months, just stay tuned."
If Bad Influence would join Global Force Wrestling:
"I think the only people that know who is on that database right now are Jeff and Karen. I think that Jeff has a plan in mind, and he's moving at the pace that he wants to move at. So whenever something comes up and materializes, we'll see what happens. I feel like Frankie and I have a good relationship with Jeff and if he were to decide to put Bad Influence on the roster, that would be something that we would definitely be up for doing."
If they can still use the Bad Influence name in other promotions:
"We're probably gonna have to come up with a new name. That was Frankie's brainchild, but I would imagine that we have to come up with a new name. We have many, many names to use that we have called ourselves over the past year-and-a-half. We'll come up with something."

I expect they'll be receiving their invitation to the bullet club any day now...

Was surprised to see Kazarian come back on last night's Impact...even more so when he jobbed to Knux and the Menagerie.
Maybe he's just seeing out his contract and will hook up with Daniels again soon? Hope so as they were a cracking double-act.

Depends on their financial situation more than the product.
Weirdly, despite the fact they've dropped so many big names, the shows are actually more entertaining than they've been since Eric Bischoff was there.
The star quality may not be there, but the storylines are more coherent and there are more matches with more of a proper back story to buy into.
Not to say there isn't still lots of room for improvement, but its far from terrible.

Re: Christopher Daniels on leaving TNA
Bad Influence vs The Wolves would have been a good feud if they gave it a chance. The tag division is really lacking in TNA and to release one of your most entertaining acts is not cool imo. They brought in The Menagerie which is a huge let down so far.
