Paul Smith Jr v Arthur Abraham
Seems like there is a decent chance of this happening later in the year. Would anyone give Jr much of a chance? I havent sen him in action since he got brained by Groves but Arthur Abraham has looked pants in pretty much every fight hes been in since he beat a washed up Jermaine Taylor.

Re: Paul Smith Jr v Arthur Abraham
Paul Smith is a decent boxer with ok power and a decent chin.
The shot from Groves was an absolute thunder smash and would have destroyed any top level fighter.
Also worth noting that Groves was wobbled at the end of the 1st round although his chin is suspect.
Abraham can take a shot and has good power (not as it was at middleweight where he was a machine) so could be fun.
Id go with a AA LKO or competitive UD.
If Paul rolls back the years then he could pull off a Darren Barker. You never know, but id side with The King.

Abraham looked dross in his most recent fight, so if he does get old suddenly Smith stands a chance.

If someone's life changes for the better due to knowing that he is in fact Smith Jr, then we'll remember this moment.
But am I the only one who sees this as a mismatch, even with the form Abrahams on at the moment? Smigger probably getting stopped as soon as AA lands more than 2 clean shots in a row

Re: Paul Smith Jr v Arthur Abraham
smith has only operated at British level so can't see what he has done to deserve this shot but then again jennings got a shot against cotto as did lockett against pavlik so who am i to question it.
Can't see smith winning this though, think he wants a crack at it for a payday and when he retires he can say he fought for a world title, in saying that i've nothing against him and would watch it and would like to see him win it.

An old worn Abraham is still better than the best Smith has to offer.
Smith will travel to Germany for the pay day and will get beat. Anyone see a trend here.

... Particularly what we learn on here.
I appreciate the need to distinguish someone from their father, but I always think junior sounds a bit stupid on a fully grown man.
Back in the 70's we had Dave 'boy' green. That was a bit stupid too. And more recently we have:
Pretty boy Floyd mayweather junior. He's not pretty he's no longer a boy and hasn't been for sometime. He may be junior to his father, but not to most people. Maybe that's why he started calling himself money mayweather. Bit classless, but at least it has some relevance.
Back on topic, I see 'ageing Arthur Abraham' still having too much for 'past it Paul smith' in the battle of the has been against the never was.

Success is all about timing........Have the feeling Smith's timing could be immaculate...
Be another Layne - Gomez....
Abraham looks shot to me........Smith is half decent and I think half decent will be enough.....
If Groves wins then another easy belt to win perhaps soon after..

I can see where you're coming from truss. Never thought that much of AA and his downward spiral from his best has been rapid. Not impossible that it has reached or passed the level of plodding mediocrity that smith operates at. We'll see.

To be fair, Groves/Froch hammer AA (again in Frochs case) and Smith.
Along with the majority of Super Middles.
Gfoves will always struggle against "teak tough' fighters with good chins and a good engine as his stamina is poor and his chin isn't the best. Ie. Bika, Froch.
Froch will always struggle with quick sharp clever boxers with a decent engine ie. Ward......

Abraham by KO inside 6 rounds, hope Smith proves me wrong though he is a good bloke and be nice to see him grab a belt before he packs it in for media work.

Odds on this being a tune-up for Abraham with eyes on a fight with Robby Stieglitz? Surely the eternal war continues?

Bit too early to make that suggestion with regards to Groves, if he beats Froch with style at the end of the month then that theory is completely blown out of the water and Bika whilst decent isn't at the level of Froch.

Smith will need to produce a Stieglitz (sp?) type of performance from there second fight if he's to stand a chance. Don't think Smith has got the engine to maintain that type of fight.
Would make things very interesting if he manages to wrestle the belt and take it back to Liverpool.

Re: Paul Smith Jr v Arthur Abraham
Smith will win. The reason for this is because I will want AA to win so badly it'll hurt. The idea of Gallagher and Smith, who is Euro level at best (no shame in that) winning a SMW world title makes my skin crawl. Sky will cream themselves and it'll make any of their programmes practically unwatchable. Its bad enough with Quigg, fortunately the paying public aren't being mugged off by that farce so far.

The thing is though I don't think Paul Smith has been announced as an official Matchroom fighter.
