Undeserved POTY's

The Ryan Giggs 'greatest player debate' got me wondering which player was most undeserving of either the players player, or Football writer's player of the season.

Anyone stand out, and if so, who should have won.

Keane for Ginola in 1999 is one that comes to mind.

Still can't fathom Rooney getting it in 2009-10. Had a good season, by all means, but Lamps, and possibly Drogba, were better. 22 goals 17 assists. Ridiculous. Rooney basically got it because he was carrying "an inferior team", a point really brought home when you saw how well a largely Lampard-less Chelsea did the following season, as well as how poorly United did the next season when Rooney wasnt in top form.

yeah ginola over plenty of that united squad. thought becks should have got it that year, he was miles and away the leading assist leader in the league. thought keanes best performances were in europe that season

thought les ferdinand was strange in 95/96, both fowler and shearer out scored him. but i would have gave it cantona, massive influence on united pulling it back against newcastle and scored the winner against the scouse in the fa cup final

yeah fair one, but still with hindsight i can still say ginola was undeserved. stupid rule to vote so early, march to may is when it matters most

He scored a couple of mazy dribbles (one in the league cup), I guess it captured the imagination of the majority who are eligible to vote but never play with or against the players in contention.

Sigh. The obvious one is Giggs.

Isn't the players player voted for in January (why?) Not sure about the writers player. May?

Giggs is very obvious, and even he's agree. Van Nistlerooy over Henry in 2003 possibly, but again maybe the writers player was voted for, before Utd clawed back Arsenal.

Rooney 09-10 was the obvious choice in March, it was only injuries that curtailed the remainder of his season.

Giggs is really the standout one for me. It was basically a lifetime achievement award since he'd never won it.

Vidic was clearly the PotY but lost it when he got pantsed by Torres

I'd no problem with giggs getting it that season. There was no stand out candidate and he had put in a string of superb performances in the biggest games.

Bale wasn't the best player either of the times he won it and a case can't really be made that he was.

Are you insane?

Rvp and Suarez were better than him last year.

His first award was a joke, had a great August then scored that hat trick against inter. Didn't do much else the entire season.
