FES read the Daily Mail's rugby page and you'll think he never left.

....or listen to John Inverdale speak about rugby. Complete time warp.
Still, I just think he'll return to rugby in some guise. He keeps writing all these "blue prints to winning" in the Sunday Times, and you can tell that he misses it.

Why would you go to The Daily Mail for rugby (or anything!)?disneychilly wrote:FES read the Daily Mail's rugby page and you'll think he never left.

Re: Mike Tindall Retires
It's a fair point. I got stuck with a Daily Mail (and nothing else to read) at breakfast the other day in a hotel. I only read one article on the back page about Luiz Suarez and the gist was that Liverpool were well shot of a nasty and somewhat troubled individual. I could not agree more with the sentiment, but they also said that he "left a trail of victims behind in the Premier League", or words to that effect. Now, I count two victims: Ivanovic (bite) and Evra (alleged racist remark). Not quite "leaving a trail of victims in his wake" (unless they were actually referring to a score of humiliated defenders - which they weren't). It's that sort of silly and sensationlist turn of phrase that the Mail likes to apply to everything. Nothing is what it is, or just normal, it must be demonised or otherwise sensationlised in some way. It's a pretty silly newspaper really.

Last man standing. Had a good final season with my club Glaws, but with changes at the top and in the squad, Mike's timing as often, immaculate.

He's continuing in a coaching capacity is he not? Worthwhile hanging onto some of that experience, particularly in defence and for backs wanting to learn the art of the breakdown. Tindall's defensive basics were superb, particularly in his prime.

Maybe he can get that long-awaited nose job now

I guess Balshaw retired just before Tinds then?
Matt Giteau was a replacement in that final, wasn't he? Any other Aussies still playing?

David Lyons is still at Stade Francais, George Smith has recently moved from Japan to Lyon so there's the guts of the Aussie back row. Both guys 34 years young. Fine players. Those are the only two in Union I think
Lote Tuqiri is playing Rugby League for South Sydney Rabbitohs after a loan spell in Leinster where he allegedly made a bigger impact in the nightclubs than on the pitch! Same vintage as the other two lads.

Balshaw's retirement, following many months out with a knee injury, was announced a few days ago. Looked great for England before Graham Henry broke him.
At his best a devastating and sublime runner. At his worst, well lets just not go there.....

Agree...when he first came on the scene he was a revelation...
As for Tinds...great Pro, great servant to the England and World game. Never the most skilled but was perfect foil for Mr Greenwood at the heart of that England midfield.

Glaws new DOR, David Humphreys, did not offer Tindall a contract of any description prompting his announcement of retirement.
I'm sure he'll get a coaching job if he wants one, but then again his in laws are not short of a few bob.

Researching how you can filter xenophobia through a newspaper to make it easily absorbed by the general public...

Not just xenophobia but sexism as well. The DM coverage of the Cabinet reshuffle yesterday was, I presume, written by the descendants of Benny Hill and the team that brought you the Carry On films.

I thought there was still one member of the world cup winning squad playing, then I saw this:

That's a fake page
Must be
Ahh - I can see what's happened here. Like any of the greats, the media get the obituaries/life stories ready prepared for when the time comes.
It's obvious that they have let this one be released a tad too early. Probably a Work Experience kid who doesn't know who Phil is has let this one slip out.
I'm really suprised that there wasn't an apology released.

Was waiting for something like this lol. Kudos to Tindall for all that he achieved, he was a rock on defence too and an asset without the ball. With the ball however nothing more than a journeyman. Tony Woodcock put people into space better than he did-totally disagree with Woodward's comment on his passing game.
Well balls that is. Bet he could pass the f**k out of a midget.

If only that was true. Apparently he dropped the midget.

Re: Mike Tindall Retires
Asking Sir Clive to write about Tindall is like asking a parent to write about why their own children are the best!
Tindall was a very good defensive centre (great tackler and excellent breakdown skills for a back) and worked extremely well within the 2003 system. Funnily enough he looked completely average as soon as Will Greenwood retired - a straightforward bosh merchant. His passing game would barely pass muster at club level, and he had absolutely no vision whatsoever.
The comment about him being in the same class as BOD is complete and utter nonsense. If you asked me to list the best British and Irish outside centres in my rugby supporting lifetime I would list (in no particular order) Guscott, Bateman, BOD, Tait, Tuilagi and JD2 ahead of Mike Tindall. He's probably on a par with Tom Shanklin. Had Ollie Smith managed to stay fully fit I suspect he'd have made the 13 jersey his own post-2003, ahead of Tindall.
I'm not trying to be down on him, he slotted in perfectly to the 2003 model alongside Greenwood (who truly was of the highest class) - leading the defence, bringing huge workrate and ensuring that isolated opposition players were given a hard time. But my God his distribution game was poor, and his pace was never going to trouble sides either.
