NYPD arrest and subsequent killing
A New York City man died after being placed in a choke-hold by an NYPD officer during his arrest.
Very distressing story and even worse is that the evidence is all on camera and the brutality the police exerted on the man was not needed at all.
The man was on the floor and being choked and on about 10 occasions stated that he could not breath but the police officer kept on choking him. It is immportant to note that chokeholds are against NYPD rules when making an arrest.
The Police who choked the man whist he was lying on the floor has been kicked out of the force but should he stand trial for murder?
Here is the video

I saw this and its just disgraceful.
Apparently the VICTIM was selling boot leg ciggies which may be a crime but wheres the justification for killing him?
IMO this p***y cop wanted to impress his buddies by taking down a big black man. The man was no threat but these piece of sh*t cops saw it differently and now the man is dead, a wife is widowed and 4 children lose a father.
I off to bed now but before I go I will put on my Ice T Cop killer album
goodnight.

Wow this thread is going to last, isn't it? The race card invoked after two posts.
I don't see what the colour of his skin has to do with this tragic and cowardly act.

Very sad news and in my opinion a criminal act has taken place and the police officers who killed hoim need to stand on trial.
Incidents like this one and the many others that leave people with no faith in the police.

NYPD do a great job in a demanding environment..
Isolated incidents that haven't been quantified shouldn't detract from that fact...

Got to agree with Trussy on this one. Whilst there needs to be a proper investigation of it, we shouldn't villify the WHOLE police force because of one incident.
I'm sure there's often lots of little great things they do that go unnoticed and unreported at the moment as we're too happy to wallow in despair.

I think generally the police in America have a horrendous job. From an outsider's perspective, though, I'm not so certain that they do a great job.
No doubt it must be terrifying to be confronted with (potentially) armed criminals every day of your life. However, the police in America seem too often to adopt a "shoot first, ask questions later" approach. I can understand why given the level of threat they face. However, if you are not someone who can react appropriately in a potentially dangerous situation (and I count myself in that group), then you have no business being a police officer.
This case is an example. This is a clear murder. There was no need for the police to even lay hands on the man, and absolutely no need to choke him. How frequently are incidents like this in the news?
Sad to say, I think the police in this country are heading a little more that way.

Sensationalist and misleading title (or just someone lacking a basic grasp of either a) the English language; or b) the facts).
Either way, horrible story, PC has made it clear such holds are banned, hopefully the cop not only loses his job but is properly prosecuted (US equiv of manslaughter, as clearly not murder). Though I doubt he will, the Blues have always been about protecting their own and the NYPD often regarded as the worst culprits.

So do we Truss it's the Police Complaints Commision, they're about as good as the yankee equivalent.

We have exactly the same over here.
Just look at the investigations following incidents during the auterity protests (or whatever they were) when that b!tch got a slap and the wino died. Similarly when the nutter got shot after he started spraying bullets around Kensington?knightsbridge.

Re: NYPD arrest and subsequent killing
Yeah I'm not quite sure of that Truss, if they were that good things like this wouldn't be reported. Unfortunately the American system does have a history and a reputation of covering things like this up (kind of why stuff like http://nypost.com/2014/04/23/nypds-twitter-campaign-disaster-spreads-to-lapd/ happens)
And whilst I am of the belief that we shouldn't be lambasting a whole force for a couple of bad apples, you trying to act like the American system is brill is laughable at best.

How would you? You haven't lived there in 20 yrs+.
And the flip-side to your suggesting you're still the all-american-know-it-all is that that curtails your position to speak on British policing affairs.
The Yanks have a terrible repuatation for heavy-handed policing and wholesale cover-ups, the IAB does no better a job tackling these than the PCC does here.

Check it out Truss, I'm not saying Britains PCCC is perfect but I'd take that over America's IA any day of the week and twice on sundays.
And something to show that they're not all bad

No we shouldn't but confidence in the NYPD will be seriously destroyed if the police officer who choked the guy to death is not fired and confidence will be further destroyed if he is not on trial.
Somebody being choked to death during an arrest for allegedly selling bogus cigarettes is not accetable especially as he was choked whilst lying on the floor with 4 other officers on his back and the man stating at least 10 times that he couldn't breathe due to being choked.
The worst thing is that the police cannot even cover it up or there are different versions of events about what happened because it was all caught on camera and the video is available all over the internet.
