The truth about Canelo !!!!
First topic message reminder :
You know I wanted City to win the premiership last year and had big hopes Palace could help them out at home to Liverpool.....3-0 down after 40 mins I was calling them every name under the Sun...3-3 They were my second favorite team !!...
Unfortunately this is the same scenario with Saul...Mayweather detractors had such high hopes for him they have called him ever since.....Because unlike Palace he didn't turn it around !!!
The guy has never won a fight by robbery and has some top class names on his record...You have to be a top fighter to accomplish what he has....
The truth about Saul is that he had the audacity to lose to Floyd and spiteful types won't forgive him !!

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
Alvarez is very good and seems more than willing to take on the best available challenge something he's now done on three occassions. Not many boxers out there can lay claim to facing the three highest ranked fighters aside from himself in their division, would hazard a guess that only Ward and Froch can make such a statement.
Yes he was the benefit of a close decision against Lara but it was far from a robbery and consensus seems to have him as a very slight victor. Part of the problem there though is the rather bizarre scorecards he's had go in his favour, he beat Trout fair and square but the 118-109 scorecard tends to make people act as if it was some sort of robbery which it certainly wasn't.
His time at 154lbs seems done and I fully expect to see him in with both Cotto and Golovkin before long, he beats the former handily for me and that sets up a mouthwatering fight against GGG for the legitimate middleweight crown.
I'd say he's a 7/8 out of ten fighter, special talents like Mayweather will beat him comfortably but against the rest he will never be outclassed.

Golovkin will stop him.
Alvarez is to be admired for his willingness to face the best fighters in his division (although a cynical view would be that after committing to three PPV dates this year he kinda had to). He is, though, ridiculously overhyped, has iffy stamina, takes full rounds off and has poor concentration. He isn't a patch on someone like Fernando Vargas never mind the ludicrous comparison to the great JCC Superstar.
His three biggest fights were also as dull as dishwater.
Of course these days, some fans will believe anything an HBO/Showtime infomercial tells them about CHAMPIONS and POUND FOR POUND stars.

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
That cynical view though Haz falls down because it's something he'd have known before signing up for the PPV fights. Vargas was a more exciting fighter but I wouldn't say he's any better than Alvarez, his defence was fairly poor while offensively he was very good, he did fight a who who's of the 154lb division from 98 through to 07.
With any PPV fighter they have a specific target audience and the Mexicans love Canelo so whether you or I find his fights boring in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter.

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
He was offered three PPV dates, which he signed up to (naturally). He then had to fight opponents that would drive sales in order to make money. He'd have earned brass buttons fighting Ishe Smith or TBA.
Vargas gave Trinidad and De la Hoya hell (although, to be fair, he was on steroids against Oscar). He also edged Winky Wright and Ike Quartey. Can you imagine what Winky would have done with Alvarez?
Canelo is popular and good luck to him. He isn't a special fighter, though, no matter what All Access would have you believe.

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
Where is anyone suggesting he's a special fighter, the only mention of it has been by you to suggest he isn't and comparing him to the past.
What would Winky have done? Probably not a lot that the judges would score on, send the audience to sleep and then lose a decision he deserved he win.

Alvarez has been hyped as the second coming (you might have missed it under your rock).
Wright would have beaten the ginger off Alvarez. He was no Erislandy Lara or Austin Trout.

This is where you fall down, you take the perceptions of elsewhere namely America and feel you need to counteract them, we're talking about the opinions on this site not the opinions of Showtime whom I sure nobody with an ounce of knowledge pays any attention to.
You remember the past through your rose tinted glasses, Wright had a horrible style that meant nobody gave a toss about him which led to him losing fights he shouldn't have. Nobody from the present day is as good as those of yesteryear we get it Haz.

I fall down? Who are you meant to be? Judge Judy?
Wright was a more exciting fighter to watch than Alvarez. And he boxed as recently as 2012.
The opinion I gave on Alvarez isn't presented to "counteract" America. It's my opinion. On a forum. Which is its function.

Winky would have whipped Alvarez. The current era is pretty poor.

Your opinion though is to counteract the opinion of an American network who would be failing if they didn't hype him up.
If you think Wright was more exciting to watch than anybody then god help you.

People like Hammersmith and Truss buy all the POUND FOR POUND ALL ACCESS hype, though, catchweight. It's like peeing in the wind.

He was more exciting than Canelo. All he needed was a 24/7, ALL ACCESS or a POUND FOR POUND rating.

You're too hung up on what is written by publications, I wouldn't go out of my way to watch a Canelo fight nor do I watch 24/7 or All Access but I do appreciate what he's trying to do, fights the best on a consistent basis.

His stance is admirable but he's hardly unpopular on here because he lost to Floyd. It's because he's overhyped (which was the point I made).

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
Truss unfortunately doesn't see anything outside the world of Mayweather, if you fall for the hype of anybody then more fool you, I trust my own eyes so what Showtime, ring magazine or any other pro Alvarez publication says means little to me.

Re: The truth about Canelo !!!!
Im a cynic so the disgraceful cards he has going for him sours thing for me. Its more or less telling you that this guy has serious home insurance when he fights. If hes struggling to make weight, lets just up it a few pounds. If he misses weight, no big deal.
Im going to hold fire on him in terms of entertainment because hes been in with some guys who really know how to make a fight look bad. I don't think this necessarily Alvarez fault. He usually been the guy trying to force the action, albeit not hugely impressively. With a more suitable opponent like a Cotto he could be in good fights. Im sure we will find out.
I don't see Alvarez getting much change out of the top light middles of 10/15 years ago.

I see it that Alverez is following Oscars model. Chase the biggest money fights available and take the loss on the chin if and when it happens. It's the best way for Alverez to make money given his limitations.
