Petition To Get Rid Of Nick Halling?
Going to start one on Twitter at some point tomorrow as I genuinely despise him as a commentator, hopefully Adam Smith will realise that he needs potting due to him being the worst EVER Boxing Commentator I have ever heard in my life and he needs to get a reality check.
I like Watt as a side note so I won't be trying to get rid of him...
But seriously, does anyone else genuinely get the feeling that he doesn't know anything about Boxing and he doesn't really follow it properly? I feel like I could do a much better job than him and I've never commentated in my life.

Re: Petition To Get Rid Of Nick Halling?
Quite a few people have expressed doubts over Halling's knowledge of the sport. He probably knows what Sky require him to know and doesn't follow the sport beyond that, to be honest, which might explain some of over-enthusiasm for a few of the Matchroom lads.
I used to be a little less fussed over his now legendary bias towards whoever the British fighter (or bigger-name fighter) is and could turn a half-blind eye to it or let it go with a bit of a grin, but it has got a bit too over the top to bear recently. He was doing everything he could to justify Burns' gift draw against Beltran and didn't seem to have an ounce of sympathy for the Mexican (full credit to Watt, by the way, for telling the truth on that one!) and I couldn't believe it when he said he had Ricky winning the Zlaticanin fight as well. Someone needs to tell him that you don't get a 2-3 point head start just for fighting in front of a home crowd.
He probably gets too excited and throws about too many superlatives when there's a bit of action, but so do a lot of other commentators. All in all, he's not much to write home about but I suspect Sky will be happy to keep him on as he fits their kind of heavy-handed promotion for their own fighters which has become the norm in recent years. So unless he drops a Ron Atkinson or Richard Keys kind of clanger, I think we'll have to make do with him for a while yet.
John Rawling is dreadful as well, for me. A Rawling-Halling combination behind the mic would make for a pretty soul-sapping viewing experience.

When you start it Alex can you start one to run along side it for them to get Ian Darke back. Is a pity because with McCrory seemingly sidelined and them relying on the likes of Bellew, Moore and Smith increasingly the team seems quite strong.
Chris could you imagine a Halling, Woodhall combo on commentary, Richie would make Halling seem the voice of reason when it came to jingoism and bias.

Reg Gutteridge and Halling wouldn't last too long. Somebody would be getting a wooden leg to the head.

Did you just use gutteridge and halling in the same sentence? Shame on you. Err and shame on me too.
Rawling and halling are equally awful, its a crying shame. Put them in commentator room 101 with Stuart Barnes and mark lawrenson and let the f**kers bore each other to death with their inane ramblings.
As rowley says, Ian darke please with holdsworth as first reserve.

Good good Rowley!
Woodhall AND Halling?! I think I'd just forget about the UK boxing scene in general and sky sports.
That would be one terrible combination!

I remember when Sky did the old union versus league debate a few years back. Barnes couldn't even get the better of Stevo which underlines how ineffectual the man is when he tries to get his points across.

I sometimes wonder whether the networks like having a hate figure in their commentary teams.. Whether they think it stirs debate or something. Sky are an astute bunch, they must assess performance and popularity of their presenters.
Yet they have persisted with Barnes for years, a man universally reviled and derided within the game and by the viewers.

Re: Petition To Get Rid Of Nick Halling?
Think the problem with Halling is the misguided belief you can just chuck a guy in who is good at another sport and he will be able to transition in seamlessly. Have friends who are American football fans and they assure me Halling is/was excellent at that. However boxing, like American football is a pretty niche/minority sport in this country, as such the viewers tends to be a bit geeky/well informed, as such blagging or bluffing tends to be spotted pretty quickly.

Re: Petition To Get Rid Of Nick Halling?
Are you a British Boxing Fan? Are you having to listen to ridiculous biased commentary that barely makes sense anymore? Is there a man in your life you could do without? Yes, that's right Nick "This guy is teak tough" Halling must go.
From comparing Mexican journeymen to Marco Antonio Barrera, to saying the word "Fella" every five seconds, to only supporting them if they're British and clearly not actually following the sport properly outside of the fights that he has to cover, he really is a spare wheel. A spare wheel that could do with lighting on fire, being locked in a chest and buried 200 feet under the sea.
Our Boxing Community online is a strong one, let's get our voice heard, or at the very bloody least we could get Nick to read this and he could realise just how much a man sausage he has been recently and get him to stop being so crap.

Except of course once the air runs out in the chest, the fire will be extinguished or if it's a chest of poor quality once the fire breaches the walls, the sea will put it out.wheelchair1991 wrote:Alex very inspired words

Did anyone else hear him on Saturday night after the GGG fight saying how Golovkin had just hammered the best fighter he'd ever fought. And then going on to realise Matt Macklin was his co-commentator and having to add a quick, "With all due respect".

Shame he didn't say ' but of course he still hasnt fought anyone of world class'
Not only would it have been a fair point, but macklin might have killed him, and saved Alex the trouble of his petition.

Re: Petition To Get Rid Of Nick Halling?
Only reason I can see that Geale is rated better than Macklin is that he's a former world champion. Macklin should be also (would have lost it by now) if the judges had got it right in the Sturm fight.
I don't think Macklin would have lost to Barker and he'd beat Geale.
Basically Halling was wrong there, in my opinion, but Geale v Macklin is a eight I'd like to see.
