Bayer Leverkusen youngster Hakan Calhanoglu, Liverpool star Raheem Sterling and Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi are among the names on a 40-man shortlist for the 2014 Golden Boy award.

The award recognises footballers under the age of 21 who are bursting with talent, with many on the list having enjoyed breakthrough years that have seen them make decisive contributions for their clubs.

Calhanoglu's excellent performances for Hamburg saw him earn a summer move to Leverkusen in the summer, while Sterling has made a great contribution to his side's excellent year and has also been heavily involved for England.

IN FULL: Nabil Bentaleb (Tottenham), Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Franco Bernardeschi (Fiorentina), Bruma (Galatasaray), Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Kingsley Coman (Juventus), Gerard Deulofeu (Sevilla), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Gianluca Gaudino (Bayern Munich), Mathias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund), Derlis Gonzalez (Basel), Julian Green (Hamburg), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Bayern Munich), Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United), Keita Balde Diao (Lazio), Mateo Kovacic (Inter), Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao), Lazar Markovic (Liverpool), Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain), Benjamin Mendy (Marseille), Maximilian Meyer (Schalke), Arkadiusz Milik (Ajax), Aleksandr Mitrovic (Anderlecht), Munir El Haddai (Barcelona), Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid), Nikola Ninkovic (Partizan Belgrade), Lucas Ocampos (Monaco), Divock Origi (Lille), Denis Praet (Anderlecht), Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain), Sandro Ramirez (Barcelona), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), John Stones (Everton), Oliver Torres (Porto), Tonny Vilhena (Feyenoord), Jetro Willems (PSV), Luka Zahovic (Maribor), Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)

Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen), Gianluca Gaudino (Bayern Munich), Mathias Ginter (Borussia Dortmund),Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao), Munir El Haddadi (Barcelona), Denis Praet (Anderlecht), Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), John Stones (Everton), Oliver Torres (Porto),

I think it will be out of those for the win. That being said they prefer attackers so i expect Olivier Torres/Munir might pinch it from under Sterling/Calhanoglu OK

Pogba won last year.
I think it'll be between Torres, Berardi, Sterling and Calhanoglu. Most posters I've seen on it seem to think it's betwrrn Sterling and Calhanoglu tbh.

As a general rule of thumb the winner goes onto be quite a decent player, there's one on the list below that is a serious facepalm...

2003 - Van Der Vaart
2004 - Rooney
2005 - Messi
2006 - Fabregas
2007 - Aguero
2008 - Anderson!
2009 - Pato
2010 - Balotelli
2011 - Gotze
2012 - Isco
2013 - Pogba

Shall be interesting since voted by journalists and i wouldn't trust them not to vote Spanish as far as i could throw them. Surprised Depay was left off the list better then quite a few that made it.

Best atmosphere at Old Trafford in my memory, great game of football, fair result in the end I think. Januzaj and Fellaini were immense.

And David De Gea proved once again why he is the best keeper in the league. No one will mention Courtiois parry straight into the path of RVP which costs his team, he made once decent/average save when he closed down van persie.

Fellaini had Fabregas in his back pocket game, he destroyed Matic. Hopefully this can kick start Fellainis career.

Mourinho has no bottle he puts on a 5th defender and take off a winger, he has no balls. I'll never rate him as highly as others do or fall into the Mourinho love in trap.

Good to see Fellaini getting some recognition.

When he signed we warned that he was a slow starter for us and only really showed his ability in his second season.

Could be a big player for you this year.

I'm going to avoid being on for the rest of the morning.

I can already see that Viva is in a "look how great anything United is, look how over rated everything else is" mood.

Olly - try and get tactics done this week

I can't see United letting him go and he seems happy. When you have a top keeper, you keep hold.

They have seen in the past how hard it is to get a reliable, top quality keeper, so I can't see them selling.

I do remember you saying he is a slow starter, I really want him to succeed he has taken far too much undeserved stick. He coped well against Matic and Fabregas probably the best CM pairing in the league.

If De Gea goes I can't blame him but I want him to stay for life.

Let's see if I can get a win this week against PAOK.

As for the Ivanovic yellows I would say maybe the second one could of possibly been a yellow but the first one wasn't for me.

Also I don't agree that Courtois should be blamed for parrying the header Viva, it was from pretty close range and there wasn't too much he could do about it.

Neil Warnock is a divock.

- Anichebe heads the ball, Dawson elbows the keeper in the head, it's a goal. There was no-one who could have stopped the ball going in the net, so while it's unfortunate the keeper was hit, it was not interfering with play.
- If he thinks Jedinak won the ball off Anichebe, he needs shooting now. Anichebe draws back his foot to shoot, gets wiped out from behind, the ball doesn't get touched. Then another Albion player picks the ball up, runs past his man and gets clean taken out as well. Double penalty!
- He once told his Sheffield United players to get deliberately sent off / injured so as to get a game abandoned. Against Albion. So he can swivel.

He was right about the Zaha non-penalty though, that was stonewall. And not in a gay way.

Didn't your lot take selfies and post pictures like you won the world cup when you finished 4th? Yeah thought so.

No surprises Azzy Badmood thinking elbowing in a game is OK. Then again he thinks it's normal for a football club to take the urine out of players, to be fair I should e expecting this type of behavior from West Brom and it's fans.

Sounds like a foul to me. You see fouls given for off the ball incidents all the time.

We take selfies everywhere so thats no excuse for your love fest over a draw just papering over the cracks angel  Rojo got dominated by a 36yr old Drogba,Faffael continued to be a liability yet your delighted getting a pt vs 10 men side who gave up attacking after 60 mins Laugh Im sure you will try to defend the penalties that you should of conceded too angel

I mean, if an Albion player punches a Palace striker on the halfway line, at the same time the keeper got elbowed in reality, its still a foul.

If it had been the other way round I'd have been fine with the goal. Just as I'd have been fine with giving the penalty against Dawson for clearly fouling Zaha.

United's best game of the season was a 2-2 draw with a bottom-half of the table club. They then squeak a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, at home, a Chelsea who had a 36yo granddad playing up front. And United's best player this season looks to be Fellaini. Shows how far they've fallen really.

Keepers get too much protection IMO every time they're touched a free kick is given but smashing someone with your sharp elbows right into the temple which can potentially kill a person is an obvious foul and only someone who has the killer instinct or murdering thoughts (azzy)  thinks it's ok

If Azzy thinks Uniteds best player this season is Fellaini and our best performance against WBA I guess you're just making it up without watching United or you need a quadruple eye surgery.

Whether you're taking selfies for the first time or not you can't excuse it. Even wba when they beat Villa didn't stoop so low. You celebrated 4th which I wouldn't expect someone like West Ham to do. Your club is small time everything you d. Wenger is small time.

I'd be relieved getting 4th but I wouldn't celebrate like a certain North London club. I wouldn't take selfies and I definitely wouldn't want my players (podolski) to have a pop at our neighbors because he can't make the side.

Go tell that to the manager of Manchester United, Louis van Gaal, who said with his own mouth that the 2-2 draw between our two clubs was United's best performance of the season. laughing

Soddy - essentially you'd be my PA. It's only likely to be a £17k-£21k range though.

Viva - Dawson made only a glancing contact with Speroni. There was more danger to the keeper's well-being when three players crowded round Foster at the other end when Hangeland scored. Had one of those players leapt up, he'd have had an elbow straight in his mush, rather than on the side of his head.

If you had said that from the start isn't did being a William WUM I'd have been more likely to understand your point. You're like a son to me.

I'd argue it's primarily made to call people
