Obviously didn't have much of an impact on Glasgow then...
I hear today's game is going to be a bit of a mud wrestle on a soggy pitch - plays into Toulouses hands.

Hmm, maybe but then again I was very impressed by how we dealt with a bigger pack in the mud against Pelly and if they don't have a confident 10, then I fully expect Finn to be sending garryowens and touchfinders to the corner all afternoon.
One of the biggest advances that the soapdodgers have made this year is being able to win through a change in strategy when needed.

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
Just surfaced in sunny Toulouse . What a lovely city and really fun and friendly people unlike that dump, Toulon . The feeling from the heid yins is a wet track suits Toulouse more than us so fingers crossed the weather holds up. Got pelters for suggesting I would be delighted with a LBP but still think that would be a result.

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
You know I'm pretty convinced that 5 points from these two games would be a result. That would leave us on 14 points with a home tie against Montpellier who are out of contention and a final away trip to Bath who by that time could be on 9 or 10 points (win against Pellie and lose to Toulouse). Five points from these two games and 5 from Pellie puts us on 19 going to Bath and we could be safe runners up and Bath out of contention.
However Toulouse must be thinking that two wins against Glasgow puts us out of contention and pretty much gives them the group.
It really looks as if today will be the season defining day. Can't wait.

I see Beattie is featuring in the XV for Castres, Evans benching and no R Gray.

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
I agree with you Jimbo that 5 points against Tolouse over the 2 games is a good return, however we might see a stronger Toulouse team coming to Scotstoun with the likes of Albacete, Steenkamp, Dusautoir, Fritz and possibly McAllister starting which is why i'm targetting today's game as a win. Should be sunny at kick off time so conditions shouldn't favour Toulouse much.
Big day and big big game needed from the back row as i think it's the only position Toulouse has a clear advantage.

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
Nice preview from PlanetRugby:
Glasgow head to Toulouse to take on a side reeling from a fly-half crisis that proved costly domestically last weekend.
The Warriors will be hoping it's more of the same on Sunday, with the four-time European champions missing both Luke McAlister and Toby Flood through injury.
As a result, Jean-Marc Doussain will take the reins at fly-half, as he did during the pool stages of last season's competition, most notably in wins over Saracens both home and away.
However Doussain has been struggling from the kicking tee, and it was his four missed penalties that ended up being decisive in Saturday's 25-22 home defeat to Grenoble.
He will join up with Sébastien Bézy, fit again after injury problems of his own, in what is an inexperienced half-back pairing.
Guy Novès' side will however be boosted by the availability of Imanol Harinordoquy, who had been struggling for fitness after withdrawing at the last minute before the Grenoble loss.
The French team will be hoping to avoid a repeat of arguably Glasgow's greatest-ever win, a 33-26 success at Ernest Wallon five years ago.
On that day it was the Evans brothers who stole the show, but Glasgow have moved up a notch since then, and head to France with reason to believe they can pull off a result.
Gregor Townsend's side have already beaten Montpellier on their own patch in this season's competition, although they will need to improve from the performance that saw them struggle past the Dragons this weekend.
With both sides heading into the weekend on two wins, these back-to-back fixtures should prove decisive when it comes to who emerges as group winners.
Meanwhile, Glasgow have made ten changes to the team that edged past the Dragons, with a host of Scotland internationals coming back into the team.
Finn Russell and Henry Pyrgos will link up as a half-back pairing, while Stuart Hogg will be dangerous from full-back. Jonny Gray is also back and available, and he'll partner Leone Nakarawa in the second row as the Fijian shifts from blindside.
Form: Toulouse's six-game unbeaten run came to an end last Saturday with a home defeat to Grenoble. Glasgow meanwhile, got back to winning ways by beating the Dragons at home. Toulouse have won the last two meetings between the sides, but Glasgow famously won at Ernest Wallon back in 2009.
The teams:
Toulouse: 15 Clément Poitrenaud, 14 Vincent Clerc, 13 Yann David, 12 Gaël Fickou, 11 Maxime Médard, 10 Jean-Marc Doussain, 9 Sébastien Bézy, 8 Louis Picamoles, 7 Imanol Harinordoquy, 6 Yannick Nyanga (c), 5 Yoann Maestri, 4 Joe Tekori, 3 Census Johnston, 2 Corey Flynn, 1 Vasil Kakovin
Replacements: 16 Julien Marchand, 17 Kisi Pulu, 18 Neemia Tialata, 19 Thierry Dusautoir, 20 Edwin Maka, 21 Jano Vermaak, 22 Florian Fritz, 23 Yoann Huget
Glasgow: 15 Stuart Hogg, 14 Sean Maitland, 13 Alex Dunbar, 12 Peter Horne, 11 Tommy Seymour, 10 Finn Russell, 9 Henry Pyrgos, 8 Josh Strauss (c), 7 Chris Fusaro, 6 Robert Harley, 5 Jonny Gray, 4 Leone Nakarawa, 3 Jon Welsh, 2 Pat MacArthur, 1 Ryan Grant
Replacements: 16 Fraser Brown, 17 Gordon Reid, 18 Rossouw de Klerk, 19 Tim Swinson, 20 Ryan Wilson, 21 Niko Matawalu, 22 Duncan Weir, 23 Richie Vernon

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
Anyone know who's kicking? I'd expect Russell but Pyrgos is handy at kicking. You always hear of Hogg practicing/see him practicing in warm ups, but he's never really kicked (his LR attempts infrequently succeed).
A stodgy, wet pitch might suit Toulouse but if they can't get points from penalties they'll be in trouble.
Toulouse by 5-10 points, only because of the slide in Glasgow's form.

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
Russell will almost certainly be kicking.
On that point, Hogg's basic skills have regressed at an alarming rate this season - his goal kicks have been awful, high ball takes terrible and even his kicking from hand hasn't been as effective.
Until he gets those skills back up to an international class level he'll be at risk of not fulfilling his potential.

Well, I was texting the Schizoid one yesterday morn and feeling all smug because I had sent the beloved MrsPip off to Lille to a Christmas market for the day when he pointed out "Aye but the game's on Sunday: this is only Saturday."
However, I am firmly ensconsed in the good books so the gogglebox is mine for the duration.
Dunbar v Fickou should be a belter.

Yup, tip tackle - clearly lifting in the tackle, and no hint of the momentum carrying the player up.

Strauss off, he was having a poor game so far.
Toulouse shouldn't have been allowed to play that last lineout quick and thus getting 3 free points

Lacey is a poor excuse for an Irish ref... He doesn't even know the rules for quick lineouts... That one was a joke at the end! Glasgow playing well but lacking a killer instinct, no one is making that last move count/breaking the line in the red zone. Poor discipline at ruck time not helping either!

A fast and frantic game, I am hoping that their big boys will run out of steam a bit in the second half. They are causing us a lot of problems when they get some go forward.
We are playing the right game, just need to convert our pressure into some points

Was close to the touchline. Matawalu could have easily ran closer to the posts when he scored so his fault really.
Game over and Glasgow should feel disappointed with themselves. Toulouse didn't look anything special and Glasgow should have really done a lot better.

Matawalu pulled a Visser and scored in the corner when he could easily have gone closer to the post.
Nakarawa easily Glasgow motm. Gordon Reid should start over Grant saturday, adds much more.
Lacey the only difference in the end.

That was disappointing. We showed that we could live with them, but made to many mistakes, the yellow cards probably cost us the game.
Who did impress me was Ritchie Vernon when he came on, really injected some go forward and showed great touches with hand and boot. He could yet make a good centre, which I would not have believed when he made the switch.

Russell and Naka could have been MoM but getting silly yellows would rule both out for me. Probably Dunbar, though Harley was immense again, as he is every game.
I think Lacey gave us a try in the end as well, that did look forward!

Re: ERCC: Pool 4, Round 3 - Toulouse v Glasgow Warriors
Very disappointment as on form we would have won this. Really it's the first club game for most of these guys in a month so some ring rust was to be expected. Still, can't help but feel this will be the game that costs us a quarter final. I hope not but it had better be a bonus point win next week if we're to realistically have a chance
Far too many mistakes and we didn't protect the ball on the ground anywhere nearly well enough. I counted at least 6 penalties for holding on. Thought Seymour, Russell, Welsh and Nakarawa had good games but Pyrgos, Harley, Grant and (in particular) Horne looked poor.

It would have got the LBP and meant that a converted try would have won it. Instead Toulouse essentially knew that they couldn't lose with 5 minutes to go. I didn't see the game but I was shouting at my Blackberry when I saw the conversion missed. It's those clutch moments that separate the good players from the great one and unfortunately furthers the truth that Weir will never be a great player.
