Re: Rugby World Cup Tickets
I know it is pretty gutting. How some people can get large quantities of tickets over multiple games and so many other people (like me, not that I'm bitter about it!) can get no tickets whatsoever is baffling, and just plain not fair!
The only time I've ever considered paying more than £100 for a rugby ticket was when we were in Auckland for the Scotland-England world cup game and we went to the ticket office (which was inside a fancy hotel where you had to walk through a casino- dangerous in itself) to find out if there were any left.
They only had tickets available at £125 each. I was well up for it, but luckily my other half persuaded me otherwise! Apparently 'being able to afford to eat for the next 3 days' was more important.

Count yourselves lucky... had you managed to get tickets you'd then face the task of getting accommodation. Nothing in Newcastle much under £200 per night, lots of places requiring 2 nights minimum stay - as if they'd have trouble filling the rooms, robbing bar stewards.
£195 in the "Tune Hotel" where you have to pay extra for towels, the TV etc... Smells like an O'Leary venture.
Between paying for tickets and paying for the hotel (full payment required on booking) Christmas is going to be a meagre affair here!

I booked two nights in a dorm in Newcastle for 25 quid a night for the NZ Tonga game. Give those a crack maybe-well if you're a used to or b don't mind hostelling it.

That sounds pretty grim.
You might be better off getting the last train back to Edinburgh, or even staying in Durham or somewhere near Newcastle.
Although no doubt they have hiked up their prices too..

That's my plan, to train it down & back in a day!
At current prices (with my beloved 16-25 rail card) it's possible with an advanced return to do Edinburgh - Newcastle return for £15-20 per person. Hopefully the inevitable yearly hikes won't add too much to that.
Now please don't hate me. But I got lucky in the resale, 4 tickets for the Samoa game at £75 a pop (50% more than ticket I'd bought prior to that)
Plus me & my best mate also got 2 £20 tickets to the USA game, although Leeds in a day looks like too much of a stretch!

I would be perfectly happy with that... but try suggesting to my Mrs staying in anything less than a 3* hotel with an en suite...
'tis done now anyway, the cost is sunk so can look forward to seeing NZ slaughter Tonga then watch Scotland play Samoa with a lot of trepidation!

Re: Rugby World Cup Tickets
so am i right that a good number have gone to touts reselling on the black market ?
i thought you couldnt resell only sell back to england rugby union ?
imho its been a total fck up !
in my case i went to that website every month and somehow missed the deadline for registration by a day and got zip. why the fck did they limit that period to 1 month, when they had 4 years to get registrations in.

Re: Rugby World Cup Tickets
My law firm is apparently the main legal sponsor for the entire tournament but despite initial promises to the contrary, that has managed to be precisely hee-haw use in getting me anything by way of tickets. So everyone here shouldn't feel too bad about it.
Sadly the stadia will all be full of the confused executive management of the various tournament sponsors whose luxuriously upholstered arses will doubtless come out with all kinds of penetrating questions about the game, such as "I say, why is the ball a squashed shape?" and "those fellows in black are quite good, aren't they?".

I don't know about the first two questions, but I agree with the last statement! I think the sales have been handled reasonably well. It wasn't that well advertised, but if you were interested you could find out the information.
My problem is that there's very little information about the ability to sell tickets back, i.e. how you can sell them (if at all) and to who. By being secretive about it I think it's just making the back market more appealing. If they'd been upfront an honest about what measures they will take to stop touts, and saying what they will do on entry to the stadium to check your ticket is valid and has not been passed on, then I think that would put a lot of people off from getting tickets from touts.

Re: Rugby World Cup Tickets
The whole process has been a complete feck up - the only part that seems to have gone OK is the intial allocation to the RFU clubs -otherwise there seem to have been all sorts of issues - some people have applied for loads of tickets and got none, others got everything they asked for.
I think they are going to have serious issues getting rid of the expensive tickets that they haven't got rid of by now.
