Who wins the Mens FO?
Ok guys, the 3rd round is almost upon us.
After watching what has happened so far who is your pick to take the title?

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
Novak has a tough draw but he was my pick at the start of the tournament and his form looks good. Kind of worried about Del Po and possibly Gasquet in the round after that if he gets through.

Novak's the form player of the tournament I think he'll go on too win it. Just shows how well he's playing beaten "The king of clay" at his own game.
Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
Rafa. He is one of the mentally toughest players in the history of the sport.

Liam main, he does look good right now. I am a huge Novak fan and I am a bit anxious for this delpo match, I mean how long can he keep this streak going. Plus these new babolat balls at this years FO seem to favor the guys who hit it big and flat and nobody hits it flatter or harder than Delpo. And if he gets by this around he has Richard Gasquet to play in front of the french crowd. Still, with all this being said, I still like his chances he is looking real good right now.

I have gone for the Murray. Melzer is out and the highest seed in his part of the draw before the Semi's is Troicki. Berrer next for Murray. The draw is looking good for him.

Yes surprised by Melzer, i think murray could take Nadal in the semis on current form, but I think Rafa will raise his level. The one thing working against Novak is that he has a brutal draw. Del Po tomorrow is scary and most likely his next round opponent will be the hometown favorite Gazza.

As much as I love Gasquet's game, how can you think Gasquet would trouble Djokovic?socal1976 wrote:Yes surprised by Melzer, i think murray could take Nadal in the semis on current form, but I think Rafa will raise his level. Gasquet's limited movement and stamina would be exposed, as it is vs other top 5 players

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
I'm going to have to side with sonic here socal, for all his artistry I can't see how Gasquet will beat Djokovic unless Djokovic plays badly, which he hasn't all year. He doesn't move that well so won't make Djokovic play too many extra shots, and over five sets he doesn't have the stamina to outlast him either. Just can't see it, maybe he'll win a set, but that's all.
As for the poll, I'm torn between Nadal, however much he's struggling, Djokovic because he's in superb form, and Murray because he's my favourite player, has a very open draw and is hitting some good form (also the fact that he so very nearly beat Djokovic in Rome counts in his favour).

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
sonic_boom10 I think your spot on mate I love Gasquet's game also but I don't think he would manage a win against Djokovic. If anybody has a real chance of beating Djokovic it will be Del Potro in Round 3. Federer has started well, but hasn't done that well on Clay this season, while Del Potro has had injury problems but coming into the French he was quite impressive.
My money is on Djokovic, with Nadal being the runner up but saying all that fingers crossed Del Potro can end that streak and way Nadal is playing he might suffer a shock blip. Ferrer for me is another one who is capable of making the final.
All to play for in my view.

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
Rowley, Mad for Chelsea, and Sonic; the two reasons i feel that Gazza could be a threat is that clay is his favorite surface he hits a very heavy ball off both wings and he will have a rabid Parisian crowd in his favor. He has played really well this clay court swing. I agree that Novak should win that match but looking at his draw it is really tough. You have Del Po tonight, Gazza probably in the next round, and it looks like Youzhny in the quarters before he gets either Fed or ferrer. Meanwhile the draw has opened up beautifully for Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal. Nadal's next big test will probably be a quarterfinal where he will face Robin his RG nemesis.

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
Very difficult to look beyond Djokovic and Nadal for the finalists, based respectively on current form and history of performance at RG.
My suspicion is that if they do meet in the final, Rafa will produce his best performance of the clay court seasonand end the streak, even though Djoko will take over the #1 spot for reaching the final.
Federer has looked fairly good to date, as has Ferrer - am I right that they are drawn to meet in the QFs?
Murray should consider reaching the SF here as a major success - even with the draw having been kind to him, there are a lot of players who can trouble him on clay (even Bolleli managed for a good poart of 2 sets yesterday), so each round is a potential banana skin.

It is a very open field this year. Certainly no guarantees of who we can expect to see in the quarter finals, let alone the final.

Veic will vanquish him. If there were a 5 star option, i'd hand it out now.Tenez wrote:Very difficult to look beyond Djokovic and Nadal for the finalists

Federer has been handed the toughest draw yet again, he'll still win though.

Re: Who wins the Mens FO?
As the quarters are nearing ive amended the poll to just leave the 4 players that people voted on.
I have also added the 'cancel vote' option should you wish to change your mind and vote for someone else.
So after another great week at Roland Garros has there been any performances that have changed your mind?

Hopefully it won't be Nadal, I can't stand how he adds "No?" on to the end of every sentence while it is intolerable when he does that irritating and not remotely funny "bite test" on the trophy every single time he wins one.

Its funny I never noticed it but we never put Sod on the list and he is a two time finalist and still alive in the tournament. You heard it here first Soderling will defeat Nadal in the quarters. Based on current form that I have seen from the two players I am more impressed with the Sod.

No, I'd get jumped on by the Guardianista if I was trying to make a double edged joke.
I know he just came through a tough 5 setter but he's playing well. Federer is possibly on the wane so he might sneak the QF and then after that who knows.
