Treviso prop banned for 6 weeks
So apparently punching a prone player lying on the ground, unprovoked, is less of an offence than swearing at people in the crowd!
Here's the incident for those that didn't see it.
Still can't fathom why he did it - you couldn't get more blatant!
A statement read: “Romulo Acosta, the Benetton Treviso replacement prop forward, appeared today before an independent PRO12 Rugby disciplinary committee, following the red card issued to him for striking an opponent, under law 10.4(a), in the Guinness PRO12 match between Edinburgh and Benetton Treviso on Friday, 19 December 2014.
“The disciplinary committee, chaired by Rhian Williams (Wales) along with Simon Thomas and Aurwel Morgan (both Wales), having viewed footage of the incident and listened to representations made by and on behalf of the player, found that the incident was at the top end of the World Rugby/IRB sanctions for this type of offence, meriting a 10 week starting point. In the absence of any aggravating factors and in light of several mitigating factors, including the player’s exemplary previous playing record, the disciplinary committee applied a 4 week reduction from the entry point and suspended the player from playing for 6 weeks.
“After discounting the weeks in which the player is not due to play rugby, Romulo Acosta is free to resume playing from Monday, 16 February 2015 and has the right of appeal.”

Re: Treviso prop banned for 6 weeks
The European disciplinary hearings have always been a lot more harsh than the Pro12 ones. I don't know why. The one thing you can say is that Delon Armitage has previous and this guy apparently doesn't.
That was really stupid...

Interesting. The Top Entry for striking with fist, etc has been decreased from 24 weeks to 8 weeks. Clearly they've decided that puching someone in the face isn't too bad anymore.

I think it's more that 24 is far too high unless there are other circumstances involved. 8 Does seem too low though, but then is it lower then a tip tackle or tackling in the air? Both are to me more dangerous, and gouging is worse then any of those.

Re: Treviso prop banned for 6 weeks
surprised at that! I'd have though he would have at least got 12 weeks! punching a playing laying on the floor!
What would have happened if and edinburgh player has shouted "what the frak are you doing"???
Would he have been given a longer ban than the puncher?

Right come on then - if we were the irb committee, what maximum punishment would you set for offences
For me:
Eye gouging - 18 months
Kick to the head - 1 year
Abusing officials (physical) - 1 year
Tip tackle - 6 months
Punch to the face - 4 months
Abusing officials / public - 4 months
Being a Glasgow fan - life imprisonment

That's a bit close to home for most Glasgow fans.

On a slightly unrelated topic, Treviso have signed D'arcy Rae on loan from Glasgow as cover for the banned Acosta and injured Harden.

I presume he was getting bullied in Glasgow for having an affluent sounding name.
It's a good move actually. The Treviso scrum was the worst I've seen in the Rabo, we utterly crushed them, so he should go straight into the Treviso side and get regular game time. It's probably nicer in Italy at this time of year as well.

RDW - I don't think it was unprovoked but 6 weeks does seem a bit lenient

There could have been niggles throughout the game between the pair, but given McKenzie had his back to him at the bottom of a ruck I can't see how he could have provoked it in any way!

I can't see you link above and cant find one. Dunno why. From memory they were scuffling as they rolled out of the ruck then the Treviso guy lost it completely. I'll have another go at finding it

Re: Treviso prop banned for 6 weeks
Found it - it was another trevisio player he was grappling with but clearly the prop was also annoyed about after the clearout. I can't see what tho and Nothing excuses it in any way. Grayson Hart a lucky boy. It must be because he has a posh name. He came in for several goes.

1:20 onwards gives you the best view of it.
I bumped into Grayson Hart the next day - he had a nice shiner on his face!

Was that before or after you bumped into him?
