A Wales based Welsh Team
OK I think we all know it won't happen for sometime yet but it may one day so I though after 4 Welsh derbies over Xmas/New Year lets see what sort of side we could come up with picking just Welsh based players.
I have kept my selection to those I think are fit, know there were some knocks tonight so here goes:
Jenkins
Baldwin
Lee
AWJ
Ball
Lydiate
Warburton
Webb
Biggar
Amos
Allen
Sc Williams
Cuthbert
Li Williams
Evans, Dee, A Jones, King Tipuric, Davies, Priestland, Prydie
I think we are thin on 2nd rows and back bench cover. I have given Cuthbert benefit of doubt despite his Blues form he seems to step up for Wales, there are mentions as well to Navidi, Cudd, Dircksen, Pitman etc and I still think A Jones could be valuable member of the WC squad.

Re: A Wales based Welsh Team
Already the best thread of 2015…..clearly the solution to the Welsh inability to field a full side is to reduce the size of the team.
I am just surprised that the WRU didn't moot this when they were holding the regions to ransom.

I can think of at least 15 reasons why your credibility suffered by being unable to count 15 players in an article about fielding a full Welsh team from Welsh based players, the error therefore being yours not my inability to read the opening line which does not explain your failure to pick 15 players.
It has been further compounded by you spitting the dummy.
Let me know when you want it back.

maj,
In this instance (based in Wales etc) I would though I really do like the look of Rob Evans at the Scarlets.

Re: A Wales based Welsh Team
The idea of the dual contracts is to strengthen rugby in Wales and to improve the quality. How we go about it and who gets the contracts should be wide ranging.
I don't see why their should be a set rule.
For example if we ignore Warburtons contract as it was signed a long time ago before the peace deal between the regions and WRU, and Lydiates as it was to get him back in wales, look at each contract of the other four awarded they look like deals done at the regions request.
I imagine lyn jones would see Tyler Morgan as a huge asset they need to hold on to. The dragons look a decent side with him and Dixon at centre and thry will be there a long time. Likewise Jake Ball has made that scarlets front five a formidable force. And surely would have been high on Pivacs list.
I can see an offer going to Owen Williams to drag him back from Tigers at the end of the season.
I imagine the further contracts will be offered as situations arise and not become a preconceived who's who list of the best players in Wales.

Shame it looks like Owen Williams will stay at the Tigers, while Rhys Priestland will leave for Bath. Looks like there will be as many Welshman in the pivotal role of the English League as there will be in the GP12...!

Probably right, nepotism is a key selection policy down there. An in form Priestland is a better player than what we have so far seen of young Ford. Maybe Ford is movi on and we don't know about it yet? I hear Toulon are still considering their options at flyhalf.

George Ford looks very good you are right.
Remember only a short while ago so did Cipriani, Freddie Burns, Mylar, Gerharty and they all didn't make it for one reason or another. With Mike Ford at Bath I am sure George Ford will get chances, with Andy Farrell at the RFU, Owen Farrell gets chances.

In a world filled with uncertainty and change it's good to have a solid, dependable, consistent, rock we can anchor ourselves to.

You know he's being compared to Priestland, right?

Yeah I know, and Preistland isnt any great shaker, but lets not pretend Ford is the second comming of Sir Johnny either.

Nepotism has nothing to do with it - Ford is simply a better player and given his age should only get better

Same was said about Farrell.
Time will tell. Ford certainly looks a lot better than Farrell.

If Ford is so good, then why are Bath spending money on Preistland, who I would have thought, would not come cheap, as he has supposedly just turned down a DC in favour of a contract off Bath.

Josh Lewis is in the Scarlets accademy and looked a good prospect a few years ago. Saw him play in a few games for Llanelli.
The other lad I remember was called Richard Powell? Looked good too.

How much would it cost to get Nipper back from Bristol ?

Surely Jordan Williams would be equal to Matthew Morgan and he's already a scarlet. Unfortunately as pointed out above, big kiwis don't rate small Welshman and Williams has been left out to pasture a bit this season

The Scarlets have Shingler and Lewis, who are both decent enough, and then we have some kids of our own to try out too. As well as that we have the likes of Jordan and Gareth Owen to cover flyhalf from the bench if need be.

I imagine Lewis will start to get some game time this winter... He looked very good as a young player.
