Mayweather vs Pacquiao Has A Chance Of Being Made May/June
First topic message reminder :
It looks as though Floyd has finally run out of options and is in serious negotiations with Pacquiao for the pair to fight in May/June (should he take the May 2 date, Canelo vs Cotto will be rescheduled).
Pacquiao is reported to have acquiesced to Floyd's demands over drug testing and the purse split and so it would appear that the ball is in now firmly in Mayweather’s court.
Few questions:
Does It Still Matter?
5 or 6 years past its sell-by-date, does a fight between Floyd and Pacquiao still matter (aside from the money it will generate)?
Lewis-Tyson was trumpeted as a “defining fight”, however, a decade down the line, it’s generally accepted that Tyson was a shell and the result didn’t actually separate who was the better fighter overall.
Will The Winner Be Ranked The Greater Fighter?
Following on from that: will the winner be rated above the loser historically? Pacquiao arguably holds the edge right now, however, there’s nothing between the pair (generally rated inside the top 50 all-time).
Does the manner of the win matter (should one of them knock the other out, for exampe)?
Can It Still Be A Good Fight?
Hearns and Leonard (in their rematch) and Ali and Frazier (in their rubber match) proved that fighters who were no longer great could still produce a great fight. Will this produce fireworks or a damp squib – like the bouts between Leonard-Duran (third fight) and Lewis-Tyson.

If Mayweather was Hagler and around now...............He'd be calling him a coward for staying in his comfort zone and not fighting Spinks...
Complete bollox..
I will however in Haglers defence say that the jump from middleweight to light heavyweight was historically the hardest and something Monzon didn't attempt either but he did have Valdez to take care of.

Will also say Spinks routinely came in at 171 for his defences on the day of the fight !!
So I imagine he would have been up for negotiation........
Then again he didn't rate Hagler anyway............Didn't see the big deal....
Shutout or knockout ?? .....Pick a way Hagler loses................

I think Spinks knocks him out.................The Spinks jinx was one of Boxing's greatest weapons of the 80s.....

Jones - Toney wasn't a superfight..
Depends on your definition. A super fight is two great fighters fighting at their best weight in their prime.

Funny thing is Adam...............People like Haz hold Hoppo against Oscar.........
Yet he moved up 30 pounds from super feather to fight there..
Yet he applauds Marv who could probably have only needed to move up only 10...........For fighting Hamsho, Obelmijas twice and Scypion and Lee instead..

Beating Manny means nothing Adam...........
But beating a .............
Perennial loser in Braddock......
A Braddock beaten Baer........
A Sharkey beaten Schmelling........
A Carnera slapped Sharkey................and Paychek types...........
Gets you into Haz's Top 10.....Because those fights are meaningful !!!!

I don't hold "Hoppo" against Oscar. That fight was pointless. Oscar wasn't a middleweight (as he proved after being whupped by Sturm). See, that's a consistent argument.
This thread has descended into Truss basically making things up. It isn't about Marvin Hagler - why do you feel the need to deflect the original questions posed?

Anyway as I stated earlier, the fight isn't as big as it could of been but it still needs to happen for the good of the sport.
Can't wait to see it!

Isn't that what you did on the Louis thread, deflected every question to incorporate other boxers instead.

How can I insult someone whose hero is Lance Armstrong? Anyone whose hero is a confirmed cheat that has been wiped from the record books doesn't need any insults from me.
Great job trying to derail the thread (for what reason I have no idea). Cracking.

Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao Has A Chance Of Being Made May/June
The one thing that people are not taking into account with the money generated from this fight is one thing - the rematch!
If Floyd were to lose, then surely he wouldnt want to end on that note. If Floyd were to win, then what does he have to fear in rematching Pac?
You get the feeling that Pac will fight him anytime, anywhere at this point.
So to me, this fight is not about the PPV hits or buys for this event but more about the bigger rematch that will happen and be even bigger that this fight!

Only way there is a rematch other that floyd losing is if the fight is close. Wouldn't be suprised if Floyd does just enought to win to justify a rematch then box him silly in the 2nd fight and make a bomb.

Ha! If Floyd was knocked out his fans would be saying it was a "smart business move".
